This is Propaganda. Winston may have made the convention of human rights for europe, but he also may the lives miserable for other nonwestern countries by developing "england-friendly" dictators and removing democracy from these countries. One example is the coup against Iran in 1953.
And they make it seem as if all suppression started with hitler. What about the period with slavery before this, which was much more horrible.
Article 2 of the European Charter of Fundamental Human Rights states: 1. Everyone has the right to life. 2. No one shall be condemned to the death penalty, or executed.
The paragraphs of concern are in the footnotes : Article 2 (b) of Protocol No 6 to the ECHR:
A State may make provision in its law for the death penalty in respect of acts committed in time of war or of imminent threat of war.
There is one point I find interesting. All the "rights" are conditional to state interpretation except one, no torture. Now, the interesting part is that is torture is being redefined. What any sane person would think is obviously torture, such as water boarding and sleep deprivation, is now passed as "tough questioning" by "western" countries. And for heavy duty interrogation, there is the the outsourcing of torture to countries where it is considered normal. It's a sad state of affairs.
what happened in this time does happen today again! German people get poverty by law: called "Harz IV", the last few months the government made a law for spy out private PCs and to use the Millitary inside the county at every time they think they need it... there will come more with the time... watch out!
The European Convention on Human Rights is just another way to help criminals get out of prison and away from punishment for their crime's and people like Cherie Booth QC and other's have made a nice living of stopping criminal's going to prison just to futher them selves and for money!

« To those who cling to power through corruption and deceit and the silencing of dissent, know that you are on the wrong side of history « .
( President Barack Obama, January 20,2009 ).
Vote EU sceptical in June's European elections to fight EU corruption and save true DEMOCRACY.
Good luck to the Irish in October !
P.S.
1.Why is the right to VOTE missing from the European Charter ?
2.Why has the death penalty ("lethal force") been re-introduced for "civil upheaval" ?
