Funny thing about that clip (and I listen to Kornheiser via podcast): Carville was calling in to Mr. Tony to pick football games, and the discussion started with current events.
BTW, Carville's picks that week: Philly over Dallas, Jets over Cincy, Baltimore over New England, and Packers over Arizona. He went 2-2.
To be honest, I don't care if I look bad. Carville clearly states that he is referencing to a frequent flyer card - a safe passage card - for frequent fliers so they can get through security a little quicker than the average traveler. I have one for specific US airports.
@freesk8 What right is being sacrificed, significance junkie? Privacy? They're not coming into your home, you're using THEIR services and they're trying to make it safer for you. No rights are being sacrificed. Find something else for your pseudo outrage.
4th Amendment: "The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized."
Where is the warrant for these searches?
Even though they may be TRYING to make me safer, they are not. So this violates my rights for nothing.
That's subjective, but what is clearly true is that there are no warrants being issued, no probable cause (merely traveling domestically by air does not constitute probable cause you are a terrorist, any more than entering a bank is probable cause that you are a bank robber.)
Also, no person is specified if such a warrant exists.
I think these searches ARE unreasonable.
But they clearly lack warrants, and so are unconstitutional.
You don't have a right to fly, you're using private services. Any company can put stipulations on their services. Read the back of your airline ticket; you agreed to their searches when, having read your ticket as a citizen should, you proceed through security.
Of course airlines have a right to refuse you for any reason, even a reason that violates the Constitution, but that is not what is happening here.
The TSA is a GOVT agency and the TSA is doing the searching.
They have forced themselves on the airlines and on the people.
The TSA is govt agents, and if they force the airline to comply, then the airline is acting as a govt agent as well. The Const. applies to them, and the 4th amendment with it.
Carville is joking about whipping his junk out and having it measured. If I am bugging you - well, I mean to bug you. Because BS like your comment and that of others on a multitude of topics is bringing the lowest common denominator in this country to a low that has dropped and continues to drop.
No one in airport security is ever going to ask you to display your private areas in a security line unless you refuse to cooperate in which case they may walk you out of the line or take you into a back room for further questioning by local law enforcement. That's the way it works my friend. If youre going to leave a comment that is easily refutable don't be surprised if someone calls you out.
If I walk on to a nude beach that has signs displayed that all individuals at said beach must be nude, are my rights being violated if I don't wish to undress? No, I simply need to make the decision not to use their beach.
Same with air travel. Flying is not a right, it's a process of mutual agreement.
They probably would need to couple that X-ray scanner with an electronic scanning microscope in order to get the resolution needed to find a penis that small.
This is ridiculous. This latest attempted attack had nothing to do with a lack of scanners. It had everything to do with govt officials not acting on information--even information given to them by the guy's father, a prominent banker. All this talk of scanners is just officials' deflecting the responsibility for their screw-up.
You can go have your dick measured. I'll keep my rights dirt bag. Too many of these douchebags on the radio voicing their shitty opinion and implying it's the same as ours.
Perfect example of stupidity in our country. You could tell people to get chip implants all in the name of national security. They would line up in mass numbers like sheep being sent to a slaughterhouse.

my problem with a body scanner has nothing to do with personal liberties and everything to do with what kind of radiation my body is being subjected to during the process.
I do disagree with the idea of full body scanners that would actually be able to see your private anatomical features (even by "anonymous", off-site people). Firstly, there is no reason to need a scanner that can make out human tissue. A run-of-the-mill X-ray would suffice just fine in order to spot any unusual objects IN OR around someones body.
Also, what about like celebrities? What if Britney's nakedness (OMG!) was exposed by some fringe security person? lol
Hmmm.... good point I guess... at first I was thinking "So?" but if you're a frequent business flyer who travels on 5 diff flights a week..... that could be a problem....

Barak Hussein Obunghole is soon to go down in U.S. History as the 3rd President (although a fraud) to be impeached, and he WILL be removed from office on charges greater than misdemeanors.
And fo what will he be impeached? You do realize that for a President to be impeached and removed, you would need 2/3 of Congress to approve such measures? Sorry, slick. One million rednecks misspelling their own names on a giant roll of toilet paper isn't enough to remove Obama from office. Nice try though.
Has anyone every watched those prison shows on msnbc ...where these cons stick all kinds of junk up their keisters , from what i've heard the scanners only show outside the skin ..Hypothetically if someone wants to bad enough bring some stuff onboard ...they do that (keisteri it) and go in the toilet and deposit it and come out , and wha la there you have it....
How about instead of searching every single person the TAC can issue "frequent flyer" cards for businessmen. That will free up about 40% of all congestion. They can then pay closer attention to individuals. Problem solved, no rights violated.
Americans... air travel goes places the trains don't go sometimes. It's them 'foreign countries', dagnamit. Asking countries where the US is about as popular as the hairy shoulders of an obese woman to perform nude searches because a guy set his underwear on fire isn't going to go down well.
Good job not responding to a single argument I've made.
As for your "It's too invasive", I repeat:
A security guy touching your whole body isn't invasive? Scanning all your personal belongings in your bag isn't invasive?
Oh and on top of that, you dont think it's the answer, perhaps you would like to share any idea's on how to prevent these kind of attacks in the future? Or is a plane down once a while an acceptable loss to you? I await your reply. Maybe this time with some real content.
Its kind of you to expresst this kind curiousity about the security of Americans when you are from the Netherslands. Somehow I find it very disingenuous.
Actually I follow USA politics very closely on a daily basis (TYT, TPM, and such). Watching the republican party making clowns of themselves is so much fun. Kinda like a real life soap. :)
But I don't see how it has anything to do with my argument. We already have the body scans in The Netherlands, right after the attack, only for flights to America at the moment. So yes, I have plenty reason to talk about this issue.
I'm going to go trough the airport entirely naked next time, with my ass lubricated and ready for them.
I figure that is what they want right?
I'd like to go with the cmpany that doesn't spend millions on X-Rays and security, just get me where I'm going, I'm not scared of terrorists no more than I'm scared of zombie midgets.
As it stand right now, there is still far greater odds of a plane coming down due to mechanical failure than due to terrorism. He's free to sacrifice HIS privacy and dignity.

The imaging scanners currently being installed DO display our private areas.
Asserting your 4th amendment rights (where's the warrant?) would get you additional violations of your constitutional rights.
I agree that that is the way it currently works. My argument is that the way it currently works is not only immoral, it is unconstitutional.
Care to explain WHY no warrant is required for this search? Read the 4th amendment if you care.
You've not refuted me at all.

I assume you are talking about a private beach, otherwise a requirement of nudity would violate liberty and thus be wrong.
You have no right to access to private property, so the owner may place any arbitrary restriction on your going to the nude beach.
Similarly, airlines are free to place arbitrary restrictions on your doing business with them.
But that is NOT what is happening here. The govt has forced the TSA on airlines and the people. The airspace is public, not private.
