I hear ya acerods, went to the fillmore, occassionaly winterland, almost every sunday nite from 68` thru 70` somethin when howard johnsons was going to buy the building. First saw the flag @ a free concert near fishermans warf in 67` Use to go to the avalon ballroom and longshoremans hall too, maybe burned a few w/u.
Went twice in a row to see the Flag at the Old Fillmore never heard anything like them since. Fannie Mae was fukkin killer!! I miss the old days, Mike, Paul, Buddy, and all the other greats we have lost.
Awesome song BUT - Check out the "previously unissued alternate version" on the "Old Glory"/The Best of The Electric Flag Album/CD. WOW! Slower, Funkier, & OMG! - Listen to this with a Really Good sound system & Turn It Up!!! Michael Bloomfield IS THE SHIT!!!
Gracias por subir esta música que es hermosa. Los que abrieron paso a las bandas de rock ,sin duda ellos fueron Electric Flag. Saludos y gracias Alejandro
Having grown up in San Francisco I was lucky enough to not only see this group alot but had the pleasure of sitting in with Nick Gravenities at the Coffee Gallery one night. This was right after Janis died. I asked him why he wasn't singing the blues. He was singing folk stuff with a acoustic guitar. He said "cuz I don't have the blues no more" great answer. Thanks for the great music!
Thank you for your reply. Mike Bloomfield and Nick Gravenitis what a combination Electric Flag one of the first and best bands. There is a short documentary on Mike bloomfield on you tube .Gravenitis is in it
@cicopia1 It is hard to believe, but a reviewer on allmusic, claims that Nick was not a top notch vocalist. I`d say that he is probably the greatest white blues singer ever. Both his and Buddys lead vocals on this album is impossible to match.
hitching to big sur first heard this album when you could put on the headphones and dig the whole thing. luved it sort of like chicago to me.i dont know if this is the best american band tho. subjective i guess. i could listen to the early allman bros. for days. tommy bolins post toasties kicks butt.
"Another Country" is another great song. Check out the thick and heavy opening of the song with the Moog Synthesiser. I tried playing this album for a friend and he thought it was old stuff. Some people just don't have the ear for true talent.
The band,Chicago, was a real let down for me after hearing The Flag. The only band that comes close, is Tower Of Power. I could go on and on and on...The Best of The BEST!!!!!!
I know this album very well. I learned about music by listening to it constantly. The Electric Flag disbanded after a short while. It later became Loading Zone with Buddy Miles. After influencing the Bay Area, another band sprang up. Tower Of Power. My older brother sat in with Mike Bloomfield on a gig shortly before his death. We were both devastated in a very personal way. Bloomfield and Miles are still to this day,our musical heroes. I'm glad to know that they still have fans here on Youtube.
They were pioneers in the soul + brass horn section. All great musicians and my girl friend Carol and I would listen to this album for hours at a time..Those were high times..
I'm just really discovering Electric Flag- this song I kind of know. A college roommate of mine played this for me. Great soul inflected bluesy rock. And, ah, those horns.
Thanks for posting a tune from one of my all time faves. I like this song but can't understand why it's got 16K hits and "Texas" has like 600. But then I don't even see the psychedelic train wreck song at all.
RIP Mike Bloomfield. One of a triad of supremely talented, and tragic, Jewish blues guitarists (along with Paul Kossoff and Peter Green). I played this album to death back in 1970 and it still sounds fabulous close to 40 years later.
Electric Flag rocks. It's too bad they didn't produce more, they were hot....and Mike Bloomfield. Oh man :). I love sharing them with people that have never heard them.
THANKx I really appreciate hearing this song again. I love the serene part as well as the screaming guitar. Awesome and like some others I never thought I'd hear that again.
right never thought i'd hear this one again. what memories. I had this by Barry Goldberg's Jewish Blues album. I remember hanging around Greenwich Village. McDougal and Bleeker St. The cafe Reggio...1967 or 68.
Barry Goldberg did a great rendition of this tune on his 1968 "Two Jews Blues" album
