obviously it's not a true story, Ed Gein didn't fuckin run round with a nuts redneck family chainsawing people. half the late 70's & 80's Slasher movies pretend they're based on a true story to draw audiences in. Ed Gein was real, yes, but the fact that he decorated his house with body parts and robbed graves is the only real similarity between him and the film.

@letdowncrush2 Well... He did parade around on his property wearing a vest made from the skin of a womans chest. Also he had the face from I think the first victim in a paper bag. You're right about the running around with a chainsaw, and inbred family. When they say based on a true story, they mean just that. They aren't saying thats how it really happened.

The movie is based off true events but the title hints that it's at texas but really it happened in plainsfield Wisconsin. The movie was shot in texas. So the location was off. Some parts of course was exaggerated. Yet, that footage they showed at the start or at the end was real.

And TCM as much as it's good is unaccurat based on true events of Ed Gein who used his victims skin like leather but did not use a chainsaw and was not from Texas and many others which I do not have enough room to fit in if you want the whole story look it up on wikipedia.
