I would never serve in the UN. I care about what is going on in Africa as much as the next guy, but to be forced to watch it take place in front of me would be hell.

The U.N. is very similar to the French, Ignore everything, dress in

obvious colors, and if forced to intervene make sure to spend money on

useless operations and if any opposition is met, not matter how small

run away or surrender and then wait to be rescued by someone who knows

how to fight a war. they haven't worke...d since Korea and even then most

of the effort came from the U.S. and N.A.T.O.

@3L24 I agree totaly. These U.N troops are dropped into severly dangerous areas and ordered to stand down while they sit at their headquarters ill-eqquiped to actualy fix anything. It is not the soldiers faults nor is it the commanders of the missions, and they are the ones who are blamed by the people who actualy made the orders for them. It is becoming fair to say that the U.N is ill-equiped to prevent any serious issues.

The reason the blue helmets can't fire or protect people outside the compound it's because of the UN rules of engament, A U.N. peacekeeper can only fire upon being fired at..... so that's the reason they do not engage, for me it's a BS rule but they say it works....

Whatever the UN's shortcomings, the national governments are constantly failing to act responsibly. National interests prevail. You can't blame the UN for failing to act, the governments of the US, Russia, China and all EU states are in the positiion to make decisions, not the UN as a organisation.

Exactly, they are peace-keepers. They have the MOST difficult part of identifying WHO is the criminal. There's NO sense in killing anyone without justifiable reason. As UNAMIR demonstrated, the policy of 'dont fire unless fired up on' is a failed one since local militias can continue to taunt UN peacekeepers by killing natives/locals, taunting them while not having fired a single bullet at the UN peacekeepers.
