  • Now figure out how to add some RAM and ROM to it, and having it run a small program :D

  • There isn't a big enough like button for this...please invent one!

  • Just think, this is what PC's would be like today, if Bill Gates hadn't stolen Ms Dos from IBM, :)

  • I am working on something similar (with a little different archictecture) in lego

  • If ever there are plans available for this, I'll need to find out my billiard balls and CNC router right away! Pretty awesome stuff.

  • inefficiency has never been so cool

  • cool and useless were never again that close to each other.

  • Please calculate 64x2 for me, thankyou in advance.

  • It's like in Minecraft...but in real life.

  • wow its like physical math.

  • We've found ourselves a Windows killer... Murderers

  • You guys should put a lot more of search terms. I've watched this once, then I've been looking for it for AGES to show to my friends, but Google couldn't help me until I started searching specific sites in which I might have seen this. Eventually I found hackaday, but I spent nearly 20 hours googling along a few weeks. Great job, though.

  • i need this in my calculus test :D

  • Shouldn't Bob Barker be announcing what the prize for the first Plinko Eight Ball is?

  • Sweet! This is so cool. I am just 13 years old but know binary. I am actually making a 2bit mechanical computer. This is awesome!!! Keep up the good work! :-)

  • I heard 'bout guy from Germany who compiled linux kernel on this device

  • NERDS!

    (this is amazing.)

  • Awesome build. Do you have dimensions and possibly a instructable on how to make? Especially considering you're showing it at Maker Fair.

  • @stdusrname Thanks! This one is almost 4x8 feet in size.

No plans yet. While this one does work, it took a lot of fussing to get it that way. We don't publish instructions about how to make something until we're sure that the plans are *good enough* that someone could easily follow them and expect to make a working machine-- no one benefits when we publish prematurely. Also, we don't normally publish our how-to guides on Instructables, but rather on our own site ( evilmadscientist ).

  • Finally, a computer with some balls!

  • @boom3rang This should totally be our new tagline!

  • @mintchocolatebear Actually, neither of us are programmers. Why is it that people make stupid assumptions and snide comments? Oh yeah, they're just rude commenters on youtube, with *nothing to contribute to society*. (eye-roll)

  • Sweeeet!

It took me a friggin while to get it, though...

You Guys are Geniuses, you know that?

  • this confused me more then i was before regarding to computer functions :S

  • Can you show other type of operation?

    The balls seems so... mesmerizing

  • Can you replace the battery in it?

  • Damn. Math was alot harder back in the day.

  • beautiful

  • how long does it last on one charge? Does it work with USB 2.0?

  • @finnsia Not so good with USB 2.0. I suspect that the data rate may be a bit slow. Seems to last pretty well on a single charge of billiard balls.

  • its cool but u need a MIC SO I CAN HEAR WHAT YOUR SAYING OVER THE BALLS DROPPING

  • @jonnypants320 lolz balls droping ................nuff said

  • 7 x 15 is the highest it can go right?

  • Comment removed

  • Very nice!

  • impressive, but I didn't understand much about how it works, guess I do not make part of those 10 people who understand binary...

  • how do i install linux on this?

  • @yellowdogger Not sure. I could definitely install Tux on a corner of it, though.

  • Absolutely genius! A fully programmable bit of wood.

  • @sirskeptic you saying it like that makes me lol.

  • Cool! And from a historical perspective very interesting.

  • Imagine using this in a maths exam

  • @mrjimmyos such a disturbance..haha..everybody love balls..specially engineering students haha

  • @zoinoid015 It'd be right up there with bringing a typewriter into an english exam :D

  • It's cool, but I'd rather just do it in my head. I don't think bringing this to exam is a good idea.

  • now ask it how much is 32+4+2+1

  • @FrancekPirosrancek OMG you are soooo ignorant...

  • @FrancekPirosrancek You can.

  • This is genius, but you know, mentally or with a pen should be much faster and quiter :D:D:D

  • Wow! The machine kinda killed the audio, but it is still VERY impressive.

  • wtf

  • really cool, but why?

  • This machine is insane!
