But my friend there is something very serious in this business. The Holy Ghost carries on the whole Christian system in this Earth. Not a baptism, not a marriage, not a Sacrament can be administered but by the Holy Ghost, who is transmitted from age to age by laying the hands of the Bishop on the heads of candidates for the Ministry. In the same manner as the Holy Ghost is transmitted from monarch to monarch by the holy oil in the vial at

There is no authority civil or religious: There can be no legitimate government but that which is administered by this Holy Ghost. There can be no salvation without it. All without it is rebellion and perdition, or in more orthodox words damnation.

This is the ENTIRE paragraph from the letter, not just the snippet quoted by Barton.

This video is a nice example of revisionism. The video has taken the quote out of context, not Barton. I have personally read over 200 letters by John Adams, there is no way Adams was anti Christian. You can start with "My Dearest Friend" a collection of his letters to his wife. Available on Amazon. Adams was condemning those in the hierarchy of the church who would twist the teachings of Christianity for their own purpose: not Christianity itself. The reason people can get away with this is du
@loganator264712 How is a small, carefully selected quote, lifted out of a letter which, in its entirety, clearly shows that the quote is just Adam's characterization of a belief he despises and abhors, a misrepresentation? Would it be a misrepresentation for Barton to claim that the letter showed Adams to be a Holy Ghost-believing-and-reverencing Christian when the truth is that the letter shows otherwise?
Oh... I get it... your question was ironic or sarcastic. Good one!!

Suggest you read the "Real John Adams". Adams letters hand written are in the back of the book. It's all there.
