What's even sadder is that Elena was beginning to accept John as a father (In Know Thy Enemy, John offered to leave and she basically told him he could stay) and she said that maybe she could learn to not hate him. I would have loved to see their relationship grow from a tense one to a shaky trust/love relationship

Its so sad when Elena gives that sob at 3:31 when John's voice said that he would always love her. I think that John should have been allowed to live. It would have made for even more interesting season because he would have had to step up as guardian.

I think the spell that Bonnie did to remove John's soul should have gone like this: John's soul split into half, he still retains half of his soul (enough to keep him alive) and Elena gets the other half (enough to bring her back)
