instead of fast pumping, it's wise to push it to the floor and hold it for a second, and repeat if neces. ..altho for cold starts on the internet, i guess it's fun to watch ppl tap dance the pedal.
my 1980 park ave, with that same 350, was also a bitch to get started too btw, even though i drove it everyday. but mostly from the cold weather or the damp in the summertime. majority of the time i had the car i lived in north jersey so it was a weather thing. never any major problems though until around 357k miles when the number 7 cylinder valves burned and dropped the compression so bad it could barely be driven anymore. so i traded it ... BIG mistake. should have rebuilt.
sorta sounds like you have a miss, or a loose vac hose (maybe)? years ago i had a 1980 park avenue fully loaded. last year of the buick 350 (like yours). got the car from an aunt in 1986 with 140k on it (traveled a lot for work). I drove it until 1999, drove cross country many times, and got rid of it with 357k. awesome car and very plush. but the engine made that same noise the last 100k miles, and first fix was for a miss, second was for a small hose attached to the carb. might wanna check.
guess it does have a lot of torque if it can pull the car and the dude inside!
