They probably did. Even if the other countries didn't, if you save 1,000,000 Americans you would be saving people from all walks of life. Asians, Europeans, Africans, South Americans, and their cultures would be able to continue. Don't be salty!

Because of his status in helping to discover the comet, Leo Beiderman was automatically chosen for 'The Ark.' He married his girlfriend so that she, her mother father and sister would be considered immediate family and could go to the Ark with them. It didn't work out quite that way of course, just watch the film and you'll understand it all.

In the movie the comet is called Ele and it stands for Extinction Level Event. The name Ele was used as sort of a cover or subliminal message. Elijah Woods's character is named Leo and he was the first to discover the comet. In real life Leonid Elenin discovers Elenin.

Well the movie was a bit psychic in their portrayal. It predicted a black US president. I remember at the time when it was released saying what crap, a black president??? Yeah right!! Look at us now. LOL
