  • love this song so folky but then it explodes

  • @elieattie That is a great way of describing it!

  • There is also the Irish version 'Little Musgrave' which Christy Moore has recorded - they're all the same story. I think there are also varying versions of the basic story of 'Tam Lin'.

  • theyve reformed and have played in u s a . if anyone has information on them and live dates in u k please let me know, thanks.

  • Also "Matty Groves" seems to have more in common with "Henry Lee" than Lady Margaret.

  • Sounds very much like The Pentangle.

  • I like the way you type the name of the songs:

    'Song' ~ SilverWolfMoon

    It seems folk writing

  • Is this not Matty Groves?

  • Interesting you should say that...

I believe this is also a traditional song, and, as such, the lyrics have certain similarities to those of 'Matty Groves', but enough differences to make it another song altogether.

Trees recorded this a year after Fairport Convention released their versions of 'Matty Groves' and 'A Sailor's Life', and I think 'Lady Margaret' sounds like a blend of the two...

  • Tune very similar, but story different.

Trees were psychodelic-folk-rock. Fairport invented Folk-Rock - Richard and Swarb rule!!!

Fairport, bring on Trees at Cropredy, please!

  • old remenber
