i work at a coal fired power plant as an operator. first of all dont look at steam coming out of a cooling tower and say its polution....its water vapor. coal fired power plants do put out polutants, but in the u.s. we are installing emmision systems left and right, and what is the rest of the world doing to help??....oh well, global warming is a joke, polution isnt going to destroy the world, terrorist will, so maybe we should pass some sort of bill to restrict terrorism...
I agree 100% with you. I've been working at coal burners for a while now working on the backsides of the plants on the emission control systems. A few years back I worked at the King Plant in MN and after we were done the "Smoke" coming from the stack was 98% clean. Now i'm in MO at the Iatan Plant working on the same emissions we installed at King. I've heard for every power house we add the emmision systems to, China is building 3 coal burners with no systems at all.
I've said it before and I'll say it again, all these people who bitch about emissions from both creating electricity AND gasoline and oil, need to move into the the backwoods and live with no electricity, or any refined cude (gas, oil, etc.) I would love to see people here in the U.S. realize how important this stuff is to them and not take it for granted that they can drive to work, turn a light on in their home, heat their house, cook a dinner, so on and so forth...
coal is only dirty if you're handling it improperly, if these fools in china ever heard of tarping thier trucks and spraying the coal w/ water while loading/unloading there wouldn't be any coal dust (what they call "soot" in the video). making dinner is dirty too if you're a slob... coal is only dirty if slobs and fools are handling it. coal is the solution, not the problem.
not if it is converted to "coke" first and/or pulverised and burned above 900f to cause perfect combustion
China is infamous for not caring what they do to their people and it was only the "Yellow skies" embarrasment at the Bejing Olympics making them invest in water filtration, charcoal injection and bag filtration to get the pollutants out of their stack exhaust
this is nonsense. the CO2 emissions have NO negative effect on the crops, other than potentially INCREASING yield should ambiant CO2 at ground level be raised. other pollution deposited on farm lands could potentially reduce the fertility of the soil. the film crew obviously doesn't know much about this subject, they're filming cooling towers and water vapor, not the stack which actually emits any pollution. Even the villagers admit the problem is coal dust from transportation, not coal soot.
Coal dust yes, but there has also to be actual smoke stacks that emit soot, yes I said it, SOOT! And i bet they only translated what they said, nothing else.
An urban nightmare!

The lack of filtering is the problem, western plants don't stuffer from this.
Oh and AGW is a load of bullshit.

@mark5503 The threat of terrorism is hugely exaggerated.
