When the basic M1 came out it was armed with a 105mm cannon. From the M1A1 on they have a 120mm smoothbore. The A2 upgrade introduced a number of upgrades; the biggest being the Commander's Independent Thermal Viewer, Improved Commander's Weapon Station, Inter-Vehicular Information System, Position/Nav System, and several survivability initiatives. Two further upgrades have come; the System Enhancement Package (SEP), and the Tank Urban Survival Kit (TUSK).
One can hope. But with heavy armor in this day and age, even the proposed -A3 upgrade may face a shaky future due to budget. I know the proposal included the 120mm originally developed for the FCS's Mounted Combat System. Also a new engine (maybe time to go back to diesel), improvements to the armor, many TUSK improvements, major electronic upgrades to include fiber optics and thus maybe dropping the weight down to 55 tons.

Look up the Canadian Army Trophy and you'll see that it was a U.S. Crew with the M1 Abrams who placed first (beating Canadians, French, Germans, and Brits). Now this isn't saying that the others suck or any garbage like that but I would have to say that I would put my money on the Abrams and more importantly the U.S. Crew inside it anyday.

You know theres some things that I can't stand, being broke, cars with spinng hub caps and people that say Iam not in the Army. For your information, Ive been in for ten years come August 10, 09. Ive been deployed with the 92nd Engrs Combat Heavy Batt out of Ft. Stewart, Ga four times. How dare you let that crap roll off out your mouth. Ive served my country and Iam still serving my country. Not always, for them getting killed in combat is great (martyrdom), so sometimes the also just shoot till they get killed.
What I dont understand is, why there were no troops covering the back of the house to ensure that no1 escapes trough the back door. (ok, maybe there where some)

Look up the Canadian Army Trophy and you'll see that it was a U.S. Crew with the M1 Abrams who placed first (beating Canadians, French, Germans, and Brits). Now this isn't saying that the others suck or any garbage like that but I would have to say that I would put my money on the Abrams and more importantly the U.S. Crew inside it anyday.

Well, obviously the combat record is going to be in the Abrams favor, having destroyed hundreds of t-72's and t-80s without a single loss from tankfire. But the biggest difference, is if they ever met in combat, it wouldn't be 1 v 1. It would be the THOUSANDS of American Abrams tanks supported by hundreds of gunships compared to dozens of leopards. Many European nations barely have a dozen of them. With that being said, if they did meet 1 on 1, I would have to put money on the M1a2
