In general I like Motor Trend reviews, however i think that they missed the mark on this one. A buyer of a corvette/M3 doesn't get those cars for the same reason that a GLK350/ Q5 buyer does. Thus you can't use the same yardstick to measure these vehicles.

I think Volvo XC60 is much better, which has all features others have, such as Four-C active chassis (Sport, Comfort and Advanced), Keyless drive, Parking assist, front & rear, not mention Volvo's only safety features, such as City safe, Driver alert system, ACC and collision warning with auto brake etc, plus its high efficiency 3.0 L engine with 300 horsepower!!! I have tested drive both XC60 and GLK 350 and I love XC60 a lot better. Fully loaded prices are very close for both types.

When you enter the lux suv market you do so for the road handling both on and off the highway and the tech packages. For 2011 - XC60 vs Q5- I think Q5 is still better for exterior and interior style. XC60 is better for all around drive - better all-around road visibility, more hp and low rpm torque for better starts, larger more comfortable seat bottoms, and a few more electronic features.

I understand what you are saying, but I think buyers of this segment of luxury SUVs want something in addition to the utility side of SUVs. They want the improved utility, but also sporty driving and luxury comfort.

Hmm, I disagree. I've driven the Q5 and I thought it felt "chincy" and like it would not hold together after 4-5 years. That is more important than looks, which I hate the rear end anyway. They didn't mention a thing about the merc offroad.
the quatto system are one of the best awd systems int he world pretty much. and Audi is know for its interior on both build and quality. I own a Q5, and a S5, and i tell you i have never had any problems, one of my good friends has owned a b7 a4 since 06 and she never had any problems either. and merc, the 4matic system though good is not that great coz merc is more focused on luxury and smoothness rather than driver experience all together, i drove it and i never liked it one bit

The XC60 is my choice, want the extra sporty-ness get the R-design. It's safer than the Audi is as comfortable as the Lexus and has the biggest trunk.
Just because German automakers think a Q5, GLK, and XC60 is an RX competitor doesn't make it so. The RX competes with the X5 and M Class. I don't care if it came in 3rd, in the real world the RX is the #1 seller because it's the best when it comes to luxury, value, refinement, and day to day use.
Having driven all but the Lexus, must say the GLK is by far the best vehicle. Q5 is just too demanding to drive - you are actually tired after 15 minutes. This comes from someone who has driven a FX35 for the past 3 years - talk about chore!!!! Mercedes is smooth, quiet, amazingly comfortable and the steering, while not the most communicative, is clear and linear.

It's steering isn't the best, I know that, but it's also no where near as bad as the GLKs. Dad had an X3, complete peice of crap, now has an audi Q5, i took both out for a spin, just recently the audi and it was so good to drive, smooth, very fast for a jeep and just the general feel when driving it with a bit of speed was brilliant, hands down the best small suv out there, and tbh it's not exactly that small.
Lexus RX is my favourite SUV, but not this one, i love the 450h, a my german friend has one and he came in Italy last week from Hamburg with this car so it tested and with 300hp is awesome: 657 kgm of torque, a larger part of it available from 0 RPM.

Yeah audi is good. I test drove all of them and got it down between the glk350 and audi q5. my only problem is that the audi develops all of its torque at 4300 rpm, while the mercedes develops a little more torque but at 2200 rpm. Because of this the audi felt much slower around town, you need to give it more gas to go the same amount of speed as the mercedes and because of this the real world mpg is also much worse.
i drive a glk 220 cdi, my father a ml 320 cdi and my mother drives a c 200 cdi....we love mercedes...but in my opinion everyone should drive what he wants to...but my favourite car is the mercedes.

Lexus RX is my favourite SUV, but not this one, i love the 450h, a my german friend has one and he came in Italy last week from Hamburg with this car so it tested and with 300hp is awesome: 657 kgm of torque, a larger part of it available from 0 RPM.

@factionxvt408x Exactly. Most people are about style first. I won't take my car on a desert run any time soon, or go above the speed limit on those curvy roads.
I personally, love to be comfortable, have a beautiful looking car that handles well in normal driving conditions, u know like how most of the people drive. I wish reviews centered around reality more. to me, i'm not a car freek just a comfort and style freek.
P.S. the fastest i've ever gone was only 260km/hr, didnt feel fast! :)

@NRQS No! The Audi you can actually tell that there are wheels connected to the dang thing. The Mercedes is horrible. And always loses last place in the comparisons. Mercedes sucks. 4th place in more than just one comparison. And it's horribly ugly.

Yeah audi is good. I test drove all of them and got it down between the glk350 and audi q5. my only problem is that the audi develops all of its torque at 4300 rpm, while the mercedes develops a little more torque but at 2200 rpm. Because of this the audi felt much slower around town, you need to give it more gas to go the same amount of speed as the mercedes and because of this the real world mpg is also much worse.

i drive a glk 220 cdi, my father a ml 320 cdi and my mother drives a c 200 cdi....we love mercedes...but in my opinion everyone should drive what he wants to...but my favourite car is the mercedes.

Most likely MT comprised a list of the more popular luxury mini-SUV's based on current consumer interest market data.There seems to be heavy consumer brand awareness and luxury purchase practice around Mercedes, Lexus and more recently Audi in the SUV realm. You can arguably be just as angry for not seeing the Acura RDX or BMW X3.They probably had a time limit for the segment and anymore than 5 cars would be too long.

GLK is the only one which has a full time 4wd, the rest r AWD, being 4 wd just some times. That puts the other 3 a step behind GLK right away.

So 4x4 an a vehicle makes it more capable than others which dont have. And of cuz good gas millage is also important but since u dont have a good 4x4 on ur SUV, what would u buy it for?
