Say what you will about modernized productions, I think this works. Cosi is not tied to aristocracy (like Figaro) or fantasy (like The Magic Flute). It's overall message about love and infidelity is very broad. If the moral of the opera is that "All women are like that," then that maxim would apply to today's world too, right?
Normally I'm not a fan of modernized performance. I once saw a production of Don Giovanni set in a bondage-themed nightclub...I need not say more.
I agree! I think it works for certain productions and it doesn't work for others. As you said, this theme is really universal. The Ring Cycle with a Star Wars theme though...
What a dog's breakfast of a production. The singing is fine, if a little breathless, but the action is totally divorced from the words and hence the plot. What arrogance to think that they could add anything to the original.
It's a British description of something that is rather badly made or done. I suppose it comes from supposing what a stray dog has for breakfast, and it cant be choosy. Similar to "pig's ear" but that comes from the saying "you cant make a silk purse from a sow's ear", now reduced to "pig's ear" (which would make a nice breakfast for a dog).
LOL. Why an airport?? I think the voices are good and the music (as always) is superb. I dont even mind unusual settings, if they are clever. But an airport makes no sense at all. Also, at 6.28 I thought Ferrando was going to kiss Guglielmo. That would have been a new interpretation I suppose!!! 8=).
Ah well. The voices and music are good - I suppose thats the main thing. Thanks for posting anyway.
I like the voices, but the modernized setting does nothing for me. "Cosi fan tutte" is stongly bound to the era of Enlightment and its values and philosophy. It doesn't work in the 1970s.
i have seen this opera live in september 06. unfortunately not with this "staff". but it was awesome too. but i also have this on DVD. i like this modern version more than the older ones. i think mozart would like it!
lol you probably already know this by now but another full performance of the opera Cosi Fan Tutte is on Youtube.. but its the original not this version. Just thought I'd let you know.. since you said to, but this one's awesome
WONDERFUL. I'm going to see this on November 8th. I just read the libretto and I was hoping someone had posted the music. Thank you sooooooooooooo much.

Dog's breakfast?
You're right it's an average production, i'm just curious about the saying.

How is it arrogant to add a new context to such an oft-performed piece?

Oh, no! Io non sopporto quando Mozart viene ambientato ai giorni nostri. Lui E' IL SETTECENTO!!
Bravi i cantanti comunque.

Whoa, "E la fede delle femmine" is really fast! I've never heard it at that tempo. The sets look great, and the voices are beautiful.
