Great job! I play the bassoon, french horn, and piano but I also would love to play the piccolo trumpet and am probably gonna get one. Should I get a rotary valve or a piston piccolo trumpet? Is one more difficult than the other? And also, do you know of any high quality low priced piccolo trumpets, because I don't have much money. Like... under $250? I know that's low, but I'm a kid. Great vid anyways.
@EvilPomegranate The difficulty is that you need to play the big trumpet before you can play piccolo. I am not aware of any workable piccolo trumpets for under $250. If you are in the USA it would be worth looking up the Dillon Music web site as they do some budget instruments that get good reviews.
@hostroute so it's totally necessary to play trumpet before you play the piccolo trumpet, or could I play piccolo trumpet without playing the trumpet. I played trumpet 2 years ago for about a year, but then stopped.

i m thinking of getting a jingbao picc trumpet, i noticed that the sound goes a bit flat when u play high notes in the previous video, how do u overcome it?
Thtas a common problem with piccolo trumpets in general. They have a limited range of notes which will be at the right pitch. You normally fix this by adjusting the tuning to the mid range and then choosing a mouthpiece that has less of that effect. I use a Monette piccolo trumpet mouthpiece.
What type of picc is that, and where did you get it? Very nice playing by the way, I listened to your performance of the work for trumpet and two oboes which I played on E-flat trumpet for my junior recital, and you sounded very nice on that as well.
Great job ! BTW Sheet music is at Maurice Andre's website.

@EvilPomegranate I would say so. Piccolo trumpet is very difficult. You can't play it for long at a time. You need the big trumpet too.

@hostroute Ok. Do you know about pocket trumpets? And if you do, do you know if it would be all right to use one as a beginner trumpet?
EvilPomegranate 1 year ago
@EvilPomegranate Its possible, but not ideal as a good pocket trumpet is much more expensive than a reasonable standard size Bb trumpet.

Its a chinese copy of the Melton, which is a bit like the scherzer but has a larger bore. $400 on ebay. No don't laugh!

Very, very nice playing!
Your other clips are too. Well done.

Very nice! What key is the picc in?
peterg011 4 years ago
Its in A, but I am using a large mouthpiece with it which is what gives it a very full sound.
