I decided I would make my own boosters, using thermite :S not a smart idea.
It melted my launch pad and burned/deformed the wires I used for igniting it. Oh and it didn't launch, everything was burned or melted before I could get any thrust.
Nice vid, definately some grunt there but guessing it needs it. The only thing I think the ejection charge needs to be delayed more, nose be coming off as its still going up. lol Just a thought
I just usd D12-0 boosters for this test...when I fly it, it goes up on D12-5's or E9-6's. For a scratch build it flies great. After a landing mishapI had to replace the top section and repaint it. As it stands now the rocket is just short of 70 inches tall. At the time this was filmed it was only 60. I have another video on here of it's very first, moderately successful flight. Just after that vid was shot I repaired it with a longer top section and modified it for E and F motors.
That's not how I'm lookin' at it. I seriously enjoy it... When something goes bananas and everyone's like "betcha didn't see that comin!" I usually look up a little and say to God something along "You couldn't resist, could you" and go collect what's left of the experiment or whatever.
I see you used two positve poles and a negitive pole! why didn't you leap the igniters so that all you need is a positive and negitive pole! tell me how you wired up the igniters i cant quite tell?
You wanna fasten your testbed to the ground next time, otherwise you're risking equipment damage. Not to mention injury when shit starts flying all around you. Been there, you seriously don't want that.
Yea dude i have been there as well, it didn't involve a Rocket engine. we have the best 4th of july party, in our town, we have a buunch of cannon fireworks called GOLD AND BOLD, one of the tubes were not mounted down and fell over by the shock of others going off, unfortunelly this was already lite electronically and went off pointed right at my chest, most pain i have ever felt, other than breaking my leg!!!
My track record includes being shot with a potato cannon, being a foot away from an exploding PVC mortar, having a rocket engine fly uncontrollably around me (and making me search for my eyebrows later), witnessing a flare charge disintegration on the launch site (all with tiny glowing pieces of the flare 3000 centigrade hot flyin' all around me) and much more.
If the laws of physics really worked the way they're supposed to work I'd be dead a hundred times over.
i love the music!!

I'm guessing from the last shot of the flight being a photo and not a video that it all went south in a hurry.

Actually - with a rocket that big... I'd be sticking in a "propera" big engine.
I find it kind of exciting when the military grade interceptor missiles get launched...
Pooooooooooooooofffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffff and in about 1 second they are "Going like a rocket" and about 3Km away....
Big Engine - aluminium case, wax insulation, graphite throat....
