The show was never recorded in live, but really they did a big job putting the laught tracks sincronizated, it really gives the sensation that you're watching it in live, and also encorauges you to laught so
I watched The Muppets for the first time when I was about 5 because of my aunt, and now here I am, 16 years old, just watched the movie a couple of hours ago, and came here to re-watch The Muppets Show all over again. I guess some magics never stop working
It's so odd. Jim Henson died three years before I was born. Growing up, the only exposure to The Muppets I had was Muppet Treasure Island. Now here I am, 18 years old, and I find the Muppets irresistible. Hmm, I guess some magic never stops working.
Are people really comparing The Muppets to MLP? Really? As a fan of both, I think they're in completely different categories, but they're both good shows with great writing so let's just leave it at that.
@smacler51: Umm...no. You're close-minded on the show simply due to its cutesy art style, overuse of "girly" colors like pink, & the fact that the original campy product was meant to promote the girl-dominated toy line. In fact, I only watch the new show because the wriiting is superb & the character interaction is just as brilliant, bringing more relatable realism into the MLP-verse than ever previously done before (ex: Tara Strong as Twilight Sparkle...enough said).
I was five when this episode aired, and I still remember it. Every Sunday night, me, and my parents would sit down and watch this show, and never missed a single episode. It's when kids, and parents could sit and watch a PRIME TIME show TOGETHER, and not have to worry it was going to be inappropriate. How very sad we can't do that anymore.
It sounds says the frog, displaying his artistic judgement...sappy. Curtis"My uncle who owns the theatre..'' It sounds says the frog displaying his will to survive....wonderful."
Wonderful.I actually watched this the 1st time round!- on London Weekend Television 5-30pm ? on Sunday 5th September 1976.I had never seen anything like 'The Muppet Show' & watched it every Sunday from then on.It was a real tv treat back then.Zany & intended for adults as well as children unlike Sesame Street. Thanks for this great clip.
question: if later in the season and even in the series of the muppet show Kermit only just meets Scooter or rather scooter's uncle then why does he already know scooter in Season 1 Episode 1? it doesn't make sense......
Oh no, Kermit the Frog has gone Dr. Evil on all of us! His pinky finger is sticking up while the rest are down at 1:27-1:44. Makes me laugh to see that.
@Tonytambe no i get that. honestly i do. but comparing that to THIS! a piece of culture. you must be retarded or just blind. nothing is comparable to this
@OmegaShenron6574: Excuse me, but MLP is nearly at the same level as The Muppets in terms of entertainment. Yes, nothing surpassing anything Henson's ever done, but vintage Disney, classic Nick, things like MLP, Mr. Rogers & Reading Rainbow & Carmen Sandiego--among other sheer brilliance--is right up there with them.
@TherealRNO go home. no really. MLP is nowhere near on this level. its a girls show with a disturbing fanbase. The muppets are a cultural icon that get applauded in the cinema. MLP is something that should be set fire to in some sort of crusade
@OmegaShenron6574: You apparently are still close-minded if you think MLP: Friendship is Magic is just for little girls. It's like the Muppets, for TMS was meant more for adults in a style remenisant of vaudeville stage performances, but the Muppets & guest stars were so engaging & timeless that everyone--young or old--could enjoy it. As for the new MLP, the intended audience may still be little girls, but there are male fans (called bronies in the fandom) who like it (myself included).
@TherealRNO dude don't even go there. i know a brony and he is shocked you think MLP even comes close to this show. and it is a girls show and its weird that you older lads (if you can be called guys) are watching it. don't go all hipster saying there are jokes in it for older audiences. its a show about a group of female ponies of various colours doing girly shit.
@OmegaShenron6574: you say "i know a brony and he is shocked you think MLP even comes close to this show", to which i say both shows are for everyone & are enjoyable in their own ways, which would explain my little pony's appeal to guys now. i mean, as a child of the 80s/90s, i'm inclined watch stuff that reminds me of my generation, things like the current my little pony show & the early 90s little mermaid series included,
@OmegaShenron6574: you say "don't go all hipster saying there are jokes in it for older audiences", yet if you set you're close-mindedness aside, you'll notice that such jokes dominate the new mlp series, because lauran faust wanted it to have universal appeal, which it now has, thanks to good writting, subperb animation (though the style is still cutesy), & the hiring of well-known voice talent like tara strong.
@TherealRNO ok i have seen the show. its not funny so stop trying to justify your retarded viewpoint. MLP in any incarnation does not compare to the muppets. the new muppets movie has been met with a standing ovation in cinemas. the only reason an MLP movie ever would (as if it deserves one) is if the cinema was loaded with you lot. then the parents all look as if you are disturbed or something
@OmegaShenron6574: i've a right to my personal view just as you do, so even if you call my opinion retarded--which shows me how little you regard others, which goes against jim henson's own for-everyone philosophy & moral code--i am proud to be both a muppets & mlp fan; i may like mlp & other "girly" things, but that in itself doesn't make me homosexual like it seems you're playing off all male mlp fans as, for i am decidedly straight, even with my personal tastes in fandom.
@TherealRNO haha, no. MLP is just a show for LITTLE GIRLS, their fanbase despite what it may seem, is just a bunch of trolls pretending to like so people get annoyed, The Muppets are a CLASSIC, MLP is just right out dumb.

i love the muppet show and pretty sure if the new muppet movie does well there maybe a remake for the ONE TRUE MUPPET show not muppets tonite same idea just doesn't work without kermit running things for me
I remember seeing this back in 78 and I thought Juliet was the most beutiful thing I have ever seen in my life.... I was only 9 at the time... Then I learned that she was married to Darth Vader(David Prowse)...That broke my nine year old little heart:(
BUT!!! I grew up and had a family of my own. And just to let you know Juliet,,, I named my first girl after you.
Your a beautiful lady, and I think thats a great name for a girl.
@CarlosJulio20 -Some of the characters already existed long before the Muppet Show started. Furthermore, this was the first aired episode, but not the first produced one.
I love the dance number! How creative and surprisingly beautiful -- I love those green, fuzzy, gazelle-like creatures, they complement Juliet's graceful style so well.
@FickserU - There were two pilots. The first one from 1974 was hosted by a character called Wally, the second one from 1975 by Nigel. These were productions in planning stages of the Muppet Show. The official episodes were produced from 1976-1980 and hosted by Kermit.
This youtube video has better quality then the theme song did straight from my TV.
Oh waking up super early on Sundays trying to beat all my siblings to the spot by the heater to watch the Muppets :)

@CarlosJulio20 -Some of the characters already existed long before the Muppet Show started. Furthermore, this was the first aired episode, but not the first produced one.

I'm a bit partial to the type of opening that was used in seasons two through five.

I love the dance number! How creative and surprisingly beautiful -- I love those green, fuzzy, gazelle-like creatures, they complement Juliet's graceful style so well.

The first episode was Nigel as host, but that was the pilot and they made a turn for the better when they went with Kermit.

@FickserU - There were two pilots. The first one from 1974 was hosted by a character called Wally, the second one from 1975 by Nigel. These were productions in planning stages of the Muppet Show. The official episodes were produced from 1976-1980 and hosted by Kermit.
