Hmmmm...well deserved win. Best actress of 1997...bar NONE.....I wonder if Kim Zimmer was ACTING or really happy for Cynthia...I heard they had a behind the scenes rivalry on the show for years and even almost came to blows once or twice. Oh, well. If anyone can PRETEND they like someone, it's Kim Zimmer...The best daytime actress of the 80's...arguably....
kim said one morning she said something that hurt cynthia. according to kim cynthia wanted to start working that day and she wasn't ready b/c it was early in the morning and she was just settling in after coming to work. cynthia went to the dressing room crying.
Bullshit. Cynthia Watros was absolute genius throughout 1997. Eileen may have played a set of characters, but all of them were 2 dimensional and why daytime has gone to the gutter (btw i think Eileen is a great actress). Cynthia's 1 character Annie was multi faceted to the extreme, not since Judith Light has there been a better actress on soaps.
@AdArmand I disagree that Eileen's characters were two dimensional. Sister Mary Moira, Susan, and Kristen all were layered and she played them all with nuance. Susan was a kook, but she had a heart and Davidson made you care about her. Kristen wasn't just an evil bitch- she was a desperate and hurt woman who let her scars and father manipulate her decisions. Mary Moira was stern, smart, and different from Susan. She made each of them a distinct character and made it seem effortless.
@AdArmand And sorry, Cynthia's a great actress. But in comparison to Beverlee McKinsey? Susan Flannery? Marcy Walker? Anne Heche? Maura West? Watros doesn't even come close, nor does Light for that matter.
@juniorz1 - you don't know what the hell you're talking about. Watros is a genius. And the fact you left Kimberlin Brown off that list makes me question YOUR SANITY.
NOT, Watros deserved this award, and if you didn't see her performances in 1997, you have no room to judge. Watros brought a dept and seriousness to her one role that Davidson didn't to her four roles.
We sure had some good villains during that period; my best moment were: Annie switched her friends (Blake) pregnancy results, Annie and Dinah teaming up to thwart Cassie, Annie and Alan's romance, weeding, and hell over Springfield, Annie going crazy, Annie's melt down at Cross Creek, Annie pushes her self down the stairs, Annie on the witness stand,
Annie and Reva's 2 year rivalry (also the Ghost of Reva Shayne that started in all) Annie and Josh ill-fated weeding, and my girl's last scene when the BITCH left Reva in the plane, (she and parachute and flew out during sweeps month February 1998) never to be heard from again (well until they re-casted the part but that's another story). Imagine if Annie and Roger (MZ) had a storyline together, boy those were the days.
Guiding Light 1993-1998 was the best. Dinah, Annie, Roger Thorpe, etc. The show sucks now since all the good villains have left the show. Cynthia watros deserved to win and I am glad...but to this day, I am still shocked that MAUREEN GARRETT ( Holly on Guiding Light) Still has not won an Emmy. She is the most under rated Actress on daytime
Dont giv up on GL they r really the best DOOL is goood too. But GL is the best don't give up on GL they hav really gotten better. WHr the HELL is Annie??????
Guiding Light should bring back Annie Dutton, The role was one of daytime's most riviting and derailed villains. Cynthia Watros did the role "A Justice" Her role as Annie was always deep to making so much desperation and plotting to get what belonged to her. Her rivalry with Reva was the best. GL should recast the role of Annie, and have her back bring havco on the NEW GL set.
I thought Eileen Davidson should have won that year. She pulled off those mutilple roles with such ease, and was the favorite to win in the eyes of many.
Cynthia was the clear favorite that year to win though. She had the two most buzzed about performances of the year with Annie on the witness stand and Annie at Cross Creek. Her portrayal of a women slipping deeper and deeper into psychosis was riveting, she so deserved that Emmy.
It was totally worth watching this clip to see Kristian Alfonso and Joseph Mascolo do the bump and fight over the envelope like little kids...because you ain't ever gonna see that on Days. I must say, all the scenes submitted that year were fab, but Cynthia gets it for awesome use of a mallet. Loved Jackie Zeman and Eileen too.
Annie took her usual front row seat on the Crazy Train.

I still cannot believe that Jackie Zeman lost that year. She really deserved to win.

What a gentleman Joseph Mascolo is, first helping Watros up on the stage, then giving her a handkerchief when she was crying.

What ? Eileen was brillant, she should have win !

This win totally restored my faith in acting awards. Hard work paid off with a marvellous honor - Cynthia Watros should be very proud!

No, they better not recast Annie yet again. Cynthia Watros set to high a bar for any actress to play that role.
