I love these old City of New Orleans videos you have. Hehe I just saw 363. It works for Tri-Rail now as #810. I think they may just keep running it forever lol, it still pulls 3 car consists at 79mph.
I love the horn Amtrak put on it's F40s. Thank heavens that my most local train line, NJ transit,Has LOTS of f40's. But they will never be the same as Amtraks
I miss the F40 locomotives as well, the K5LA horns on them were awesome as well, and I liked it when the two that were pulling the train in this video were running back to back. I wish the Genesis units on the Crescent would run back to back as well.
I've read that it was the ones that had been damaged in accidents or had serious problems with their power plants that were the first (or only?) ones converted into NPCU's (aka cabbages, at least when they were used as baggage cars). The others were either sold to other railroads or scrapped, AFAIK.

I know it's not, but that consist looks like the Crescent from the early 80's!

Well Metra in Chgo still has those F40PH's. Love the way they sound. Guess i'll end up with 6 HO scale models (Kato) of them.

Actually, MOST of them still exist, either in NPCU form or have been sold to other railroads. Probably less than 50 have been scrapped.
CoasterFan2105 2 years ago 2
Most have been retired, sold off, or converted into NPCU's also known as Cabbages.
