  • ok everyone love it or hate im the one who blew up and launch that giant of a beach ball.this was my favorite show of all time.the dark star teasers were alot of fun.my friends bill and cathy who attended with me made it even more special, thanks guys,

  • I only had one opportunity to see them, in 94 at RFK, I was 14, and this is how I remember them.

  • what's wrong with the skimpy shorts???

  • How can there be 9 dislikes??????

  • Just the energy makes me feel like I'm there!!!!

  • I was at this show.............

  • Vaultmaster DL says this show is going to get the royal treatment with DVD/CD in surround sound...you heard it here first. Can't wait!

  • Eyes of the World; one of my favourites. I was fortunate enough to hear it after a long Scarlet>Fire at my first ever Furthur show last week.

  • haha...the one in his skimpy shorts...BARF!!

  • Oops, its actually in the first jam part

  • My favorite part is when Hornsby passes the lead pack to Jerry in the second jam section! Jerry takes that chromatic lick and then just blazes.

  • i can't tell you how many times i've came back to this video. truely beautiful. i'd do anything to be in that crowd.

  • furthur more!!!!!

  • Always Love Eyes!!!

  • Check out our version on Eyes of the world on our Channel Please!

  • i remember this well.....eyes to open the show...kind of a light drizzle falling.....ah the memories

  • Oh the Daze!!!!

  • The way Bruce looks at Micky thru his drum-kit is unbelievably PRICELESS!!!! Just to cute!!!!!

  • the two guys in the pic are HOT

  • Bobby's penny loafers...Ha !

  • Oh Ben Katz, How this song makes me think of you!

  • @ScarletBegoniasmmm1 seeing this is creepy because i know who that is.....

  • Totally relax welnick was in the groove and he and Bruce and found the way to complement Jerry and let Bruce lead when appropriate - just enjoy!

  • Love Bruce on the baby grand. My favorite song, I remember that night in Giant Stadium feeling like they were playing it just for me.

  • Sometimes we live no particular way but our own...

  • I was born 16 days later, :) I love The Grateful Dead. To bad I never got to see them live though.

  • So nice to be there.

  • happy birthday jerry!!!

  • Too bad i was only seven years old in '91 i would of loved to be at this concert. These guys were jamming out and i was probably in school or something like that, man was i born at the wrong time. At least i can watch it here so its better than nothing.

  • lame to see v. welnick, he sucks, thank god hornsby sat with them, jerry was as good as eyes and marsalis.

  • This video illustrates the fun that the shows were. Gawd, I miss them.

  • @dahlgrenjr

    Me too

  • Vinnie on keys!! Met Vince Welnik around 1999 or 2000 in Vermont at a little side of the road bar near Sugarbush ski resort town, he was such a cool guy. After his first set he came over and talked to me and my girlfriend, and signed my bar napkin. He did a memorable version of 'Let It Be' that night. Place was packed with skiers and locals. ...Saw the Grateful Dead once in 1991 at Veterans Stadium, still have the ticket stub!

  • nice version but it is not 6-17-91. I was at 6-17-91, the only time ever the boys opened a show with Eyes. The boys took the stage around 8 p.m., it was still day light out, Jerry had his hair down, was wearing a different shirt that this and 6-17-91 Eyes was a better version than this. Top 3 ever version with 6-18-74 and 3-29-90. Trust me on this one.

  • @babel1967 this is definitely 6/17...listen to the recording on the archive and you'll see that it's the exact same

  • @babel1967 Correct!! I was also at 6/17/91 -- In the front row directly in front of Garcia, and it was INDEED daylight!!! :)

  • its page !!! on keys ahah jk

  • @JerryRescue as in phish? haha i see a little resemblanceq

  • @yoyoyo2488 yayay hhaha

  • How is it this version of eyes always bring me to tears?

  • 8 people missed their bus

  • This is the band at their best. NOTHING in the whole wide universe like a GRATEFUL DEAD SHOW. I WAS FORTUNATE to see them about ten times live. NEVER DISAPPOINTED. JERRY YOU ARE TRUELY MISSED MY FRIEND. Good to see the rest of the band is still rockin out. Hope to catch them this summer

  • It was twenty years ago, today...

  • Really took me back on this one, genius, what a natural high this song is

  • Phil Lesh got a makeover in 2000? Just kidding. This sooooong, hmmmmm my husband, redneck that he his, will never understand...

  • i went to SO many of these concerts and NOTHING COMPARES - absolutely nothing- the music the people the intelligence of the lyrics and the FUN and LOVE yes it IS still alive in us ALL...thankfully GRATEFUL

  • @Lilleopea AMEN!!!!!! enough said...me 2 it was the best experienceof my life...........no 1 fought...only love sharing and fun!!!!! dancing....no cares in the world....

  • the look on hornsby's face during the guitar solo is great

  • man you gotta give jerry credit for playing reasonably good into the 90s, life just looks like its beaten him down, his face is just so numb and expressionless. just a little sad to see after some of his mid 70s perfomances like cameron indoor. but dayyyyyyum what a jam at 2:33. absolutely epic and face melting. the dead are the best that will ever be

  • @gbmike99 my dad loves the grateful dead and thats probably the only band he'll listen to well into his eighties

  • Yep.

  • It's the music, man, it's the music

  • This opens the show?!? Wow, really nice, no wonder the audible jubilation even on the soundboard(?)

  • I ran out of money while on the road and had to sell my tix for this night.from the parking lot i heard the opening notes and wanted to throw up.Opening a show with this tune in 1991?unheard of really and i was so pissed.Security opened the gates during drums and i went in for the rest of the set

  • God I miss Jerry!

  • was @ this show capt trips we miss ya brother

  • Love this!!I was there!! :)

  • I was there on the floor. What a night! It rained before the show. It's like I'm back.

  • so awesome...those old days...wow...never forget!

  • The look in Bruce's eye's and the smile on his face while he is looking at JG play says it all!! I LOVE AND MISS YOU JERRY!!

  • To the 7 people who clicked "dislike", I can only assume you were so high that you meant to click on "like". One of the best songs ever written. This may be the best performance or close, I am partial to the version from Nassau Coliseum on March 29, 1990 (available on the Without A Net discs.

  • @canadasucks16 I prefer the Eyes from the 1977 Englishtown, NJ show.... Ah, the Dead in the 70's, they're undisputed heyday...

  • @deweypug I was there too.Blew me away.Remeber Weir takin out the double neck for Terrapin...then .....no

  • @canadasucks16 That version with Marsalis is incredible!

  • Not knowing anything, my wife just came in & commented "why is that guy's cutoffs so short?" ....oh boy...great "eyes' thx alot for the post

  • THE BEST EYES!! PEROID. HANDS DOWN.

  • Bliss!!!

    Miss you Jerry...

  • jerry rocking out at 4:20 haha ironic

  • just listening to this cut again for the 1st time since the show, such a special time having Hornsby, keeping the boys honest a true showman, bright shiny energy, God bless him!

  • The hot seat exists, not a seat to fill permanently

the keyboardseat that is....Just love the unique ax that

    he plays,alembic custom.Gorgeous!!!

  • @Todsmack4 Alembic custom....sort of....

  • The hot seat exists, not a seat to fill permanently

    the keyboardseat that is....

  • This video really shows how great the combo of Vince and Bruce could be. Underrated imho. You can see the fun the band is having here and this up tempo version shows that. The tone jerry has, is the tone that ive been chasing for years and this always puts me in awe. Good stuff :-)

  • Jazz at it's finest. Wow!

  • i love how bobby splashs the sound and jerry uses precise strokes..

  • @rotolo Yeah..and it becomes an 'Orchestration'..Like no other humans have created.." The seeds that were silent , all burst into bloom and decay"

  • my two favorite things in this world. the grateful dead and the new york giants

  • who wears short short's?

  • this concert wasnt in 71, it was prolly around the early 90's cus thats when bruce hornsby was with the dead

  • @evanmatthews08 I was at this show it was giants stadium 6-17-91 opened with Eyes first time since 1975 also had Dark star jam in the 2nd set they played two nights the 16 and 17 both killer shows I remember hearing a might as well also

  • Such a beautiful song...

  • it looks like jerrys middle finger is always bent in. didnt realize till recently it wasnt there!

  • @8008AA8008 you do realize Jerry is missing his middle finger on his strumming hand. ALways has

  • @DongWork4Yuda

yes i was talking about his right hand..his left is clearly all there

  • @8008AA8008 i wasnt talking about his left hand at any point

  • @8008AA8008 lol, idiot

  • @ienjoydmt

they were before my time..how does it make me an idiot that I only just found out about it

  • I know so many people who love the Dead as deeply as i do, and i always feel a little guilty when i tell them they were my 1st and 2nd concert.. I still have the stub from Richfield Coliseum, but at the Buckeye Lake concert i lost everything except the shorts i had on...but i left with pockets full of yummies and new perspective<3

  • @woostergino Buckeye lake was a riot. Seen a few shows there

  • Does anyone remember how Cold it got in Giant Stadium that night and the wind that came up all of a sudden. Ranks up there with top 3 Giant Stadium shows I've seen there !!!

  • everyone just says what they hear from other people, be clever.... I'm sure Jerry is gratefully dead somewhere.

  • if we ignore the troll (TheCatfishJames) it'll go away. All trolls go away.

  • gnarly show but not diggin bobs shorts....

  • @ststephen909 fuck yess

  • Always Grateful Always Dead!

  • I was ther MF

  • @nickpiperata Fuk YA!

  • i had the impression that hippies were the last reasonable tribe. it turns out the majority of them believe in magic, ghosts, and astrology. most people who go to shows are drop outs and anti-intellectual, and work menial jobs. Rather than embracing the anxiety of eclectic expression, the hippies alienate all those who do not adhere to their 'groove'.

  • @TheCatfishJames im a hippy going to college for physics bro so shut it... ill admit alot of the hippies back in the day went about it all wrong but you would be suprised if you would take your head out your ass and stop peaking out with only one eye.

  • @gurru1312 whatever dude, jerry garcia wouldn't like jerry garcia if he was born in our generation. bunch of fools.

  • @TheCatfishJames Who would jerry like now if you know so much about him?? who would he like in our generation?? lady gaga or some bullshit?? no he would be influenced by the same folk , blues, and jazz guitarist he was influenced by back then. because he knows that those blues folk and jazz guitarist are still the best. so go watch videos that you like and dont have to talk shit on anymore. try sending out good vibes, you find out pretty quick that its worth it.

  • @TheCatfishJames are you fucking kidding me? Are you seriously that shallow that you shun one of the most creative artists in history dude? A leader of the peace movement and an icon of good fortune and happiness to EVERYONE. Ever meet a group of deadheads? Nicest accepting people you'll meet in your life, not judgemental assholes like it is to be a common member of society, everyone judges everyone these days, individuality is being flushed by propaganda and it''s had its effect on you.

  • @TheCatfishJames that doesnt even make sense...man u r bored.. aye..?

aint got time to call your soul a critic-no

  • @muckstar23 nothing makes sense anymore

  • @TheCatfishJames speak for yourself

  • Comment removed

  • @bville51555 :bob marley didn't sing 'don't worry, be happy'. that was a shitty eighties song. Hippies were cool, but they don't really exist anymore. Hippies were nonconformists. some cat in his teens or twenties right now can't be a hippie by definition if they are conforming to an historical ideal. Simple dude. Don't deify the dead, they never asked for that.

  • Comment removed

  • @TheCatfishJames hmmm, I always thought 'Don't Worry Be Happy' was one of the best 80's songs. It is upbeat, catchy, with a good message on remaining copacetic. As far as the hippies go, hippie is a relative term. If you mean the fashion hippies with the headbands & bellbottom jeans, well, fashion comes & goes and it will be back. But ideals in regard to peace & love are never historical or dated, my brother, and the ones who were true then are generally true now, they're just underground, dig?

  • @TheCatfishJames its also pretty funny that you've got nothing better to do but talk shit on a bunch of people who happen to like the grateful dead.

  • @TheCatfishJames Oh and in this cynical and truth contradicting post you're stating that hippies and deadheads are anti intellectual? They're all smarter than you, so they aren't tools to the slave way of life that everyone else lives by day by day, brainwashing and governmental propaganda take their tolls on the weak-minded.

  • @kankuro2295 : yes I am dissing the popular thing that Jerry Garcia has become. I think that he himself was embarrassed by the way people began behaving around him, like turning him into a demigod, and declaring that the people who went to dead shows were somehow part of a big family. They were just a band trying to make a living. I'm not claiming to be the smartest person in the world, I'm far from it, I'm just saying that Deadheads annoy the hell out of me.

  • @TheCatfishJames You have no idea what your talking about you blasphemous FUCK!

  • @mainman41 :whatever you say man. I think I picked up on the preceding notion from reading a biography on garcia...btw good choice in words "blasphemy" has a definite religious connotation, thus making my point stronger that people have turned him into a demi god. I'm a troll, whatever, trolls are cool.

  • why is bob wearing the same thing he was in 87 concert videos?

  • beautiful....

  • hornsby brought on the jam sesh

  • bruce hornsby played at 85% of all the dead shows from 90-92' especially 91....

  • i love how jerrys hair is always flying back jamming so hard he is creating air current

  • @gurru1312 pretty sure its a fan that is blowing his hair, but you know i guess hippies don't use physical continuity as a factor when figuring things out. hippies don't figure anything out, they make up their own little world where their explanations won't be refuted, drugs aid in this escape. going to shows was the worst investment of my time i've ever made.

  • @TheCatfishJames go back to bed bro, im not just some stupid hippy that does drugs, nor do i abuse them i take them as medicine for my soul and to learn via mind expansion and creative stream. i said that just for the sake of good comment to an awesome person read babazoacasmanx's comment its windy in the stadium duh! and i envy you baba

  • @TheCatfishJames You're being ignorant. Alot of these hippies are drop outs, and dont "fit" in normal society. That was the whole point of the hippies!!! To find a way to live in peace and harmony outside of this society. Everyone works hard everyday in hip communes. Even being drop-outs they are more intellectually inclined than you dumb catfishing ass. Then you have the college hipies like the one above, and my sister who is graduating in psycology this semester, but she also follows furthur.

  • @TheCatfishJame going to shows was the BEST investment of my time i've ever made STILL DANCING

  • Comment removed

  • @TheCatfishJames take a chill pill man its not all about the drugs or if jerry is making his own air current or its a fan its about the joy & biss that is the music that the grateful dead makes! yes we are one big family in a sense there is no anger or hate at these shows there is only love & happy and it brings all the dead heads together to enjoy the music & theyre good people & im sorry that you dont understand this but try to it will make you so happy when you do it made me happy when i did

  • @gurru1312 I was there and Jerry jammed hard, but it was always windy in Giants Stadium

  • @gurru1312 lmao how stoned were you when you wrote that

  • @PinkFloydrulez ahahah i thought the same thing

  • @PinkFloydrulez Yes, given that they had underfoot air-conditioning ducts installed in the late years. But, as sometimes happened, Jerry managed to be magical enough that a cool breeze did ascend from underfoot to cool and bless the entrie band; despite the ducts not working that night.

  • @gurru1312

Of course, he is his own element!

He effects all the kickers in that stadium too!

  • @gurru1312 Hands down, the BEST comment I've ever read on any Grateful Dead youtube video!

  • @gurru1312 That is the funniest !

  • about 4:40, what Bruce's face ... he knows they are striking gold... thanks Jerry, thanks GD.... music has never been the same ... ~S~

  • @woolst Totally...Bruce is caught up in the magic...and you are so right, music has never been the same :-)

  • I was the guy selling glow-sticks at this show!

  • This was the BEST Dead show I was ever lucky enough to see. How come this show isn't out on DVD? Many "View from the Vaults" don't measure up to this show.

THERE IS NOTHING LIKE A GRATEFUL DEAD CONCERT.

  • Holy shit, i was there

  • This was the BEST Dead show I was ever lucky enough to see. How come this show isn't out on DVD? Many "View from the Vaults" don't measure up to this show.

THERE IS NOTHING LIKE A GRATEFUL DEAD CONCERT.

  • 1st ever eyes opener, what a show thx jer

  • thank you for the music! rest in peace my brother!

  • Un fuckin real.

  • My first show...

  • the real G-Men? YEAAH. that was a fire jam.

  • Very cool concert, I remember it well...or kinda. STEAL YOUR FACE!

  • I just love this song ..

  • Hornsby looks too uptight to be playing with The Dead, my favorite part of this recording is when Jerry gives hima silent but noticable, relax and go with the music lesson!

  • @rkm3fuz The times I saw Hornsby play with the Dead, I saw that he was fully aware of who he was playing with. Sometimes his eyes would just be so wide open, going with the flow, letting go to be fuuly there. Think of sitting down wit
