Could you tell me the name of the song/artist that used to be the background music for the video? You can tell me in Korean or English because I can read both.
Thank you very much for this. I tried figuring out how to cook it on my own and never get the same as hos it is in the restaurant.lol. Hopefully now I'll be able to reproduce a better one. GAMBSAHABNIDA
hello i first came across this recipe when i ate at a korean/jap restaurant. Its sooo good and addictive. I wanted to follow your recipe, however, I cannot find a korean fish cake anywhere. Ive tried all of the asian market in our area. Apparently they don't carry any fish cake sheets =S. Is there any other substitute for fish cake?
well.. if you substitute the main ingredient to others.. it will be different food actually.. you can use other meats you like.. or ham.. ( it it's ham.. you need to cut the saltiness )..
I tried this dish and it came out less sweet and a bit too spicy than what I am used to. Next time I'll add a little less gochu garu.
To make it sweeter, I added maybe just a tbs of maple syrup and it was pretty good. Sound crazy, but it was much better than sugar with a thick consistency like corn syrup. Thank you again for a good post!
My first try did not go that well.... My wife said that it is bit salty... She thinks that I put little bit too much soy sauce (or less fish cake)... Anyway, I enjoyed eating it...
i just went to a korean store and i found all the ingredients...im going to make some of these for my lunch on monday...thanks for all the great recipes and keep it up!
It is not a stupid question at all.. it was cute.. hehe well I don't think it tastes like fish... hard to explain the flavor.. why don't you try it someday... ;) hehe thanks

I am Ausssie and when i was in High school I used to eat Korean food almost everyday I enjoy the flavors and colors the most of all food from around the world. Many classmates made fun of me and hated what I ate. This Video brought back many memories and inspired me to cook and practice my skills as I will open a Korean resturant in Korea in the next 5YRS. (iam Just 20 yrs old) Thx for your tasy dish
Nice to meet you... It's very interesting you could eat Korean food that often.. there is any relation about Korea with you ?? wow.. you will open a Korean restaurant in Korea ?? cool~~~ I wish your dream come true !!! thanks !!
No I am one hundred percent Aussie but my family migrated here from Poland. There reason why I like Korea/ Korean food is beacuse it is so different to what aussie usally eat . but in High School my only friend we was Korean and when I left high school about 95% of my friends are Korean and the other 5% are from other asain countires. I'm a little sad that you have very negative impression about Koreans..but I can't blame on you...because that's what you felt from people what you met.. that's sad.. I don't know how old you are..but I really think .... in your life you will meet far better and respectable Korean people about other countries...and hopefully.. you can see other side of Korean people..and as I mentioned before.. can be proud of yourself as a Korean.
You should just stop commenting about this, you have very stereotypical views and I dont think anyone appreciates your comments. Its like back in Primary school, If you dont have anything nice to say then dont say anything at all. These countries dont hate each other, its just neighbourly rivalry, just like any other country.I am Iranian and I see alot of Afghani foods that are similar to ours, No country is entirely unique, knowledge is passed around, thats how we have survived all these years.
Thanks for your sincere comments and advice to EuroKim... I like the way of your thinking... " No country is entirely unique, knowledge is passed around, thats how we have survived all these years." I hope more people can respect each other... thanks !!!
Oh~~ don't feel sorry.. anybody can have freedom to express own opinion... yes.. your expression was a little edge though.. to be honest.. hehe as you said.. not all Koreans are like that.. maybe the Korean people who you met so far were especially very cocky... I'm Korean.. and I've never thought that Korea made everything like that.. I hope you can see more positive points about Korea and Korean people ..and can feel proud of as a Korean. thanks !!!
Your comment is too personal opinion I think... do you know the meaning of "everything"... right ?? Culture.. food..countries effect on each other.. but I don't think.. Koreans copy EVERYTHING ... it's my opinion. thanks !!!
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Actually, I will take back what I said.. That kind of Odeng Bokem... It is only in Korea.. Odeng changed into Korean style side dish in Korea.. But we must know that word odeng is Japanese..
Sorry for using wrong word.. I should mention.. "eoMuk" instead... I don't know why you are so sensitive about the name..but as you said.. the side-dish I posted is Korean style dish.. I just wanted to introduce one Korean side-dish. thanks !!!
Oh~~~ It depends on how you serve it.. we usually serve it as a sidedish..and it can be enough for one meal.. even you have lots of guests like.. 12 ??? but if you eat this as a main dish.. I will say... for 3 people ?? It was about 1 quart jar... thanks :)
OH MY GOSH! this looks SOOO GOOD! but can you show me the bag for the fish cake? i've never seen it before...and where can i buy it? i wanna try to make this dish! i love korean food..and i wanna learn. Thanks
Oh~~~ Sorry for my poor explanation for ingredients.
If you visit my blog you can get more information about Korean ingredients. I will send you a link for the fish cakes I used for this dish. Thanks !!! :)
I was wondering if this is a side dish that you can store in the fridge for a couple days or does it have to be eaten fresh? And if it can be stored in the fridge- how long?
It's best to eat for fresh...but it's still good to eat later ... keep this in the frigerator.. I usually eat it for several days... ^^ I will say... can keep about a week ?? thanks !!
what's the song playing when you started making the sauce ? cause it sounds EXACTLY like 快乐崇拜 which is a chinese song by pan wei bo here's the link watch?v=qWV4gJIRRPY
Oh~~ I'm kind of surprised because as you said, the song sounded exactly same. This song is "ya (야!)" by the Korean group "Turtles". I like the group "Turtles" so much, and last year, the guy singer who sang this song suddenly died from sickeness, so I hoped that it's not them who copied chinese song by pan wei bo. It's dishonor for him...
Your link showed me an another related video "tell me" by pan wei bo..and that song sounded exactly same with other Korean group's song. So, I started to wonder more and researched some about it. I found this information. (It includes this song is originally sang by "Turtles" ) I'm not against any other country, but just wanted to show the truth. Here is the link..watch?v=g4a34qz1MWs Thanks !!!
It depends on brand. Mine had mainly white fish like pollack or haddock with some seasoning. Some brand has seafood like squid or shrimp in it. Thanks !! :D
Yes, it's already cooked..but when we eat, you boil, fry or cook again before we eat that. Here (America), I only can get frozen one.. it can be just this area I'm staying. You can find it both in the refrigerator or freezer.
I use Korean brand soy sauce for Korean food. I got some Japanese and Chinese soy sauce for Japanese and Chinese food and tasted it. similar but each one has a little different unique flavor. so I use Korean soy sauce for Korean food. I think you can use the soy sauce you have. I will send you the link for the soy sauce I use. thanks !!
Another excellent dish you prepared here. I agree with the other poster that you should be on a cooking show. Maybe the korean Iron Chef challenge? That would be so great lol. I think you would do a better job than most of the challengers on that tv show. Thanks again, this fish cake odang looked superb as always. Ahh, my mouth is salivating hehe. Cheers!!!
oh.. seriously..I don't think I'm that good.. I'm also learning cooking since I married... I just know a little more Korean food than other people since I'm Korean..hehe I like the show..iron chef.. they are amazing..I don't think I can handle that kind of situation @,@ ..so don't tell me about cooking show...scared !!! hehe.. thanks for comment !!
I wanted to ask you a question if I could too. ^^; I was wondering what is a normal arrangement of banchan for a meal. Like how many is usual and are there any general guidelines, like to have a cold dish and a warm dish or a vegetable only dish and then protein/meat dish. :D Also thank you for thinking of me, to try to speak Korean in some videos! I will definitely look forward to it, but I hope it will not be troublesome to you! ^^
I think your question is very good. Maybe some people will wonder that too if they are interested in Korean food. As you see, Korean food is a little complex to make... when we eat meal.. mainly we have rice and different kinds of soup eash day..that's basic...and for banchan.. yep.. we eat many banchan (side-dishes )together with rice and soup.. you don't want to cook different kinds of banchan everyday.. (too much work..) so.. here is answer...
continue ~~~ You make several kinds of banchan you can keep in the refrigeraror and several days.. (even some food is more than month..) like kimchi, pickled vegetables with soy sauce (garlic, onion, pepper, sesame leaves), and fried seasoned cuttle fish and this fried fish cake .... Once you make these side-dishes you can serve this anytime you want.. and pluse everyday,, you make fresh side-dish you eat that day and finish.. we eat lots of fish..seafood for this..and fresh vegetable side-dish
You asked me how many side-dishes we eat in Korea ?? my answer about that is.. depending on parents' salary ?? hehe.. jk.. basically.. about 5 ??? about 3 from refrigerator..and make 2 fresh side-dish ?? there is no rule.. ^^ I hope my answered help you a little..thanks !!!
Hello again Aeri, I think I have left many comments on this video already, heh ^^, I loved this video first just because the music, now I have the 1st song in my car! XD I just wanted to tell the result since I made this today! YUMMY! I couldn't believe how good this is, I have always really disliked american fishcakes, but I tried some of these before the sauce and I even liked it then. Of course with the sauce it was even better! My family loved it too! :D
oh~~ Don't worry.. I'm always happy to have your meessages..hehe give me more ..more ..more (oops..greedy Aeri..:))
Wow, you have the cd in your car ??cool..I love this music too.. the songs make feel bright !!! anyway.. wow.. you tried my recipe..assa ^^ thanks for this happy news ~~..happy ..happy..
Yes,,, In Korea, we can find it in the refrigerator section, then here I only could see them in the freezer section. I like the brand "assi brand" - frozen fried fish cake. If you can find it, I want to recommend it. I'm very excited about your friday..hehe Please let me know your results.. Thanks..
Oh, you don't like onion and pepper?? I think you can skip them..since the sauce and fish cakes are the most important part in this recipe. Thanks for comment !!!! :)
uhmm..looks so yummyy... i just went to korean groceries yesterday, and tomorrow i'm gonna try to make this fish cake hehehe. i will let you know the result..i want to try to make your kimchi dumpling too someday hehehehe. anyway love your video , cheers
Thanks for your comment and cheering. I'm so excited to hear that you will try to cook one of my recipes tomorrow.. I hope it will turn out good and you like it. Please let me know the result..hehe
What is bento ?? lunch box ?? It's a japanese word??
If it means a lunch box..hm.. many side dishes go into a Korean bento. Of course, kimchi will be one..hehe Fried anchovy one, fried egg, different kinds of vegetable side dishes. dried squid side dish, ham, dried seaweed side-dish, bulgogi, too many to make a list..hehe..^^ Thanks !!
No, lol my son just loves all things japanese. He's planning on majoring in japanese when he gets to college. So he's the one talked me into learning how to prepare all these dishes. Oh motherly love.
^^ Aha, I got it.. then of course you will know the youtubesite...cookingwithdog... she is awesome cook for Japanese dishes. hehe.. It's cool to learn about different cultures, languages. anyway.. you are very sweet mom..^^
Thanks for your comment. Aha, yes I like this song too. The name of this group is.. "turtle" Korean name is "거북이". Then the guy who sings this song died suddenly this year because of some health problem. That's sad..He was a great singer.
yea i do. I watch korean dramas and my favorite band is Dong bang shin ki and shinhwa. I like to watch korean variety shows. they are really funny. I actually want to learn korean.
Wow.. Which female Korean group or singer do you like? I don't have any song of dong bagn shin ki but shinhwa. Yes, since I moved to USA, I've been watching Korean shows through youtube. If you want to know any Korean words, please let me know. :)
i like chae yeon, ivy, koyote, and wonder girls. Shinhwa is kewl one of my favorite songs of there is Wild eyes. I am going to take korean this semester in college so if i need help i will ask you.
Aeri will you help me too? ^^ I am studying Korean on my own. I have only just started though. I will study hard on my own, but if there is something I cannot understand may I ask you?
OF COURSE !!! I'm happy when people are interested in Korean food, culture or language. I will help you. Whenever you have questions, please feel free to ask me. I just wonder why you want to learn Korean..hehe too silly question ? ^^ oops.. just wonder~~~ Have a good weekend..thanks !!
Hmm...It is probably from how nice the Korean people I have known were. :) My little sister had a nurse named Jong who helped us a lot. My whole family really liked her, she made tea and brought us cinnamon buns! We also went to her house and met her daughter, and she and her husband saw us off when we moved.^^ Now I always talk to the Korean couple who own the store by my house. Sometimes they give me something for free! :o Talking to them made me want to try Korean food and read about Korea.
I'm very happy to hear your story about the kind Korean lady. I want to be a nice Korean person to others like her. I can see, since you are a nice person too, there are many nice people around you. ^^ hehe..
*continued* ~They also helped me find a Korean grocery. :) I like Korean music and shows too. So, I thought if I like Korean people and want to go to Korea and enjoy Korean culture then of course I want to learn Korean; it is only respectful to do so! Also, I want to help Korean people who want to learn English, so I need to know Korean to be able to properly help them. Actually I will go on my birthday this Wednesday for my first day volunteering at a university program that teaches English! :D
My husband loves Korean music too, you know sometimes he knows about Korean songs better than me.. huk @.@ hehe.. Wow, Happy birthday to you !!!! I wonder if you had a wonderful birthday. How was your teaching English too? That's really cool~~~ I want to be one of your student too..hehe Thanks ..have a good day~~
I been looking for a good fish cake recipe and i've finally found it! This side dish looks so yummy and easy to follow. By the way, you cook your dishes with such ease and precision :) I like how you keep your work area tidy.
Thanks for subscribing to my channel and your comment. Oh~~~hard tofu, I'd never thought of it. Yes...it could be good especially if somebody doesn't like fish cake. Thanks !! :)
Oops, do you like my burner covers?? hehe Now, I will change my mind that I tried to buy new burner covers. ;)
can we make another sauce or this is only the main sauce ?
thanx ^^

I don't feel bad about your comments or don't think it's rude.. just that's your opinion.. anyway..hope to see you again...
aeriskitchen 2 years ago
You should just stop commenting about this, you have very stereotypical views and I dont think anyone appreciates your comments. Its like back in Primary school, If you dont have anything nice to say then dont say anything at all. These countries dont hate each other, its just neighbourly rivalry, just like any other country.I am Iranian and I see alot of Afghani foods that are similar to ours, No country is entirely unique, knowledge is passed around, thats how we have survived all these years.

Hi, Mafiaduaghter
Thanks for your sincere comments and advice to EuroKim... I like the way of your thinking... " No country is entirely unique, knowledge is passed around, thats how we have survived all these years." I hope more people can respect each other... thanks !!!
aeriskitchen 2 years ago
EuroKim, Dont be so rude, you are welcome not to watch these videos.
All around the world people have shared ideas about food and other life aestetics.
It is a fact of life that no country is not influenced by other countries. I'm not even Korean and I think you are being very rude.
Mafiadaughter 2 years ago
Hi, EuroKim
Oh~~ don't feel sorry.. anybody can have freedom to express own opinion... yes.. your expression was a little edge though.. to be honest.. hehe as you said.. not all Koreans are like that.. maybe the Korean people who you met so far were especially very cocky... I'm Korean.. and I've never thought that Korea made everything like that.. I hope you can see more positive points about Korea and Korean people ..and can feel proud of as a Korean. thanks !!!
aeriskitchen 2 years ago
Hi, EuroKim
Your comment is too personal opinion I think... do you know the meaning of "everything"... right ?? Culture.. food..countries effect on each other.. but I don't think.. Koreans copy EVERYTHING ... it's my opinion. thanks !!!

Actually, I will take back what I said.. That kind of Odeng Bokem... It is only in Korea.. Odeng changed into Korean style side dish in Korea.. But we must know that word odeng is Japanese..

Hi, veracuiz
Sorry for using wrong word.. I should mention.. "eoMuk" instead... I don't know why you are so sensitive about the name..but as you said.. the side-dish I posted is Korean style dish.. I just wanted to introduce one Korean side-dish. thanks !!!

Hi Aeri,
I was wondering if this is a side dish that you can store in the fridge for a couple days or does it have to be eaten fresh? And if it can be stored in the fridge- how long?
kiasher03 3 years ago
Hi, kiasher03
It's best to eat for fresh...but it's still good to eat later ... keep this in the frigerator.. I usually eat it for several days... ^^ I will say... can keep about a week ?? thanks !!

what's the song playing when you started making the sauce ? cause it sounds EXACTLY like 快乐崇拜 which is a chinese song by pan wei bo here's the link watch?v=qWV4gJIRRPY
niajhabenson7 3 years ago
Hi, niajhabenson7
Oh~~ I'm kind of surprised because as you said, the song sounded exactly same. This song is "ya (야!)" by the Korean group "Turtles". I like the group "Turtles" so much, and last year, the guy singer who sang this song suddenly died from sickeness, so I hoped that it's not them who copied chinese song by pan wei bo. It's dishonor for him...
aeriskitchen 3 years ago
Hi, niajhabenson7 ..continue...

I dunno who copied who , but they do in fact sound the same , exactly the same actually :(

Hi, dulcecandydc
Yes, it's already cooked..but when we eat, you boil, fry or cook again before we eat that. Here (America), I only can get frozen one.. it can be just this area I'm staying. You can find it both in the refrigerator or freezer.

hi, what kind of soy sauce do you use? :)
ubergooberxx 3 years ago
Hi, ubergooberxx
I use Korean brand soy sauce for Korean food. I got some Japanese and Chinese soy sauce for Japanese and Chinese food and tasted it. similar but each one has a little different unique flavor. so I use Korean soy sauce for Korean food. I think you can use the soy sauce you have. I will send you the link for the soy sauce I use. thanks !!

wldnjs3424 3 years ago
hi, wldnjs3414
aeriskitchen 3 years ago
aeriskitchen 3 years ago
wldnjs3424 3 years ago
Hi, wldnjs3424
aeriskitchen 3 years ago

I wanted to ask you a question if I could too. ^^; I was wondering what is a normal arrangement of banchan for a meal. Like how many is usual and are there any general guidelines, like to have a cold dish and a warm dish or a vegetable only dish and then protein/meat dish. :D Also thank you for thinking of me, to try to speak Korean in some videos! I will definitely look forward to it, but I hope it will not be troublesome to you! ^^
fatkatt2 3 years ago
Hi, fatkatt2 again ^^
I think your question is very good. Maybe some people will wonder that too if they are interested in Korean food. As you see, Korean food is a little complex to make... when we eat meal.. mainly we have rice and different kinds of soup eash day..that's basic...and for banchan.. yep.. we eat many banchan (side-dishes )together with rice and soup.. you don't want to cook different kinds of banchan everyday.. (too much work..) so.. here is answer...
aeriskitchen 3 years ago
continue ~~~ You make several kinds of banchan you can keep in the refrigeraror and several days.. (even some food is more than month..) like kimchi, pickled vegetables with soy sauce (garlic, onion, pepper, sesame leaves), and fried seasoned cuttle fish and this fried fish cake .... Once you make these side-dishes you can serve this anytime you want.. and pluse everyday,, you make fresh side-dish you eat that day and finish.. we eat lots of fish..seafood for this..and fresh vegetable side-dish
aeriskitchen 3 years ago
Hehe.. another one...
