  • My goodness, but she has a beautiful voice. The anthems are themselves beautiful, but....

  • The queen looks bored lol, no disrespect

  • this is beautiful....

  • Amazing Voice.

  • Hayley Westenra is AMAZING!!!

  • New Zealand's anthem praises God

    England's anthem praises the Queen

  • Its so sad that Australian and Canadians arent presented here. But as an Aussie I have to admit that our Aussie and Canadian national anthem do sound awful compared to the Nz one and British one. And FINALLY, GOD SAVE THE QUEEN!

  • @Lukeclout really? you think our anthem sounds good? My dad loves the aussie anthem and he wants to live there but he says its too hot for him! BTW i'm from new zealand :)

  • @Sophieluvable The Australian and Canadian national anthem was designed to sing in a high pitch female tone, it is not one that is designed to suit every tone in music. It does sounds good when you get someone like Hayley to sing it but when you got a bunch of low pitch footballers singing it it is definately not the best anthem in the world. The British and nz anthem was designed to be sang in every tone and thus sounds alot better

  • @Lukeclout A good baritone could do it. Footballers aren't the best example. LOL.

  • wow she has a pretty voice :)

  • Greetings from Canada. Long live the Queen and the Commonwealth!

  • brlliant

good to see the new zelanders are loyal :]

  • AUG,AUG,AUG What if Her Majesty Carrying an AUG?

  • Precious.

  • This woman is not a woman at all .... Hayley is infact an alien, morphed as a perfect female - they are studying us humans .... I mean d'oh? how can you be this good looking? obviously a conspiracy .... alien .... conspiracy ... 9/11 WAS AN INSIDE JOB!!!! .... I AM A MORON!!!!

  • i just want to know that if the monarch will be king then will the lyrics change to god save the king...............and its a nice anthem

  • @1103669095 It was god save the king before Elizabeth II, and will be after her as well.

  • @arnean thanx...........greetings and wishes from india

  • @1103669095 It changes with the reigning monarch. So it'll be God Save The King for a while after QEII passes. Charles, William, etc.

  • In this context, God Save the Queen is not the National Anthem of the United Kingdom but the Royal Anthem of New Zealand. The New Zealand military come to attention because it is their Queen, not simply the Queen of the United Kingdom.

  • God save the Queen of England, New Zealand, Australia, and Canada! May God defend us all!

  • God Save The Queen!

    God Defend New Zealand!

  • God save the Queen of Canada

  • God save the thieves... britain's got pirates.

  • with my feet planted firmly at home in the uk my heart is held safely where it belongs in aotearoa, behind Hayley is Papa Doug Wallace, a man who stands for all the things that are great about New Zealand, i miss my whanau ind will try to return one day. go the all blacks.

  • God Save the Queen is the Royal Anthem of New Zealand, not simply the anthem of the UK. Please get the protocol right.

  • Very nice, indeed. Best from Spain.

  • Excellent work by Hayley Westenra.

What a magnificent voice and excellent renditions of our Royal Anthem and New Zealand's lovely national anthem.

Very proud of our Kiwi neighbour, Hayley!

  • God save the queen is also national anthem of New Zealand.

  • ummm is it just me or should she left out smash their knavish politics the next few stanzas of God Save the Queen

  • I love HW so much I learned the New Zealand's national anthem after watching this video xD, when it was first uploaded of course!!

  • I'm American but I respect the Queen. I think Hayley Westenra has a great voice & it is amazing how she can sing in Maori just as beautifully. I am teaching myself Maori, there are probably no others in Ohio who speak it, few who even know what it is. I owe it to my grandmum & grandpa who were here before coming to the states. Kia ora............

  • Hello from the Commonwealth! :-).

  • Who is that singer? My gosh!!! Brilliant ! Wha a voice

  • Gorgeous, I love the line "god of nations at thy feet!" it's such a pretty anthem, soft but powerful!!!

  • Cheers to two stalwart allies from the USA. I still think that Aotearoa is one of the prettiest national anthems, hands down.

  • May New Zealand always remain in our Commonwealth...

    LONG LIVE THE QUEEN!!!

  • @324wilson Exactly Brother Spot On

  • @324wilson interesting, your country nz do prefer to stay in the Comonwealth, I went there twice and did not see that nzelander liked english...

  • Beautiful young woman, beautiful voice, two stalwart realms, couldn't ask for better allies (along with the Canucks and the Aussies) - Happy Summer from Seattle!

  • @Susan5nah noooooo I'm anAmerican and proud!!!!!!!!

  • Wow they sing our British national anthem in other countries?

That really is awesome, peace out Kiwis.

  • @hurro67 Its the royal anthem for all the commonwealth realms, so Canada, Australia, New Zealand etc use it on royal occasions

  • This is beautiful. Though I am not Kiwi nor British, I do believe that the history and future of both nations are intertwined so much and in the most beautiful way, that to sever such a relationship would only mean to degrade the value of the commonwealth with an inferior republic. That they both have in common the Queen, not as a person, but as a symbol of both nations within an idea of civilization, so foreign to those who dislike it that they are unable to comprehend its value and meaning.

  • just beautiful and she,s pretty also

  • I , an Englishman, have an everlasting love for New Zealand. Fantastic video.

  • God save the queen!!!

  • Stuff polotics, sure she can sing, stuff the Royals, Sure she's a kiwi but open up to aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaalllllllllllllllllllllllllll, don't hold back, don't compare and contrast, LOVE ALL, SERVE ALL

  • There are all those people who hate Britain. New Zealand has nothing to gain from becoming a republic. By being part of one of the greatest and longest standing empires in the world is great. Is giving up this special relationship worth being able to call John key President John Key. I don't think so

  • WHY GOD ONLY SAVE THE QUEEN AND NO ONE ELSE?? THAT ANTHEM IS HOPELESS!!

  • @KVT10 Well the second verse says God save us all...

  • @KVT10: Because God is the creator of the of the world and to be honest the anthem can't be hopeless if she's reigned for nearly 60 years and is still able to keep up appearences at 84.

  • What is a great Country?

America? Russia? China? No, New Zeeland, because they have with Haylay an Giant voice

  • @raskinman ok for one thing I'm American. I love the queen, however, and I am also a singer. All I'm saying is that hayley has a gorgeous voice and wondering how old she is. n by the way, Her Majesty is one of my heroes. She has been with the UK through about every tragedy u can imagine. Be more lighthearted and just enjoy this girl's God-given voice. I don't want to talk politics.

  • @pinkvespa95 Hayley was 19 when this video was recorded (Nov. 2006) and now, she is 24. If you click on our channel name hwivid, there are 50 more videos of her to watch. :)

  • @hwivid Very brave, singing for a large number of people like this. Respect voor this young singer.

  • I have removed several offensive comments about The Royal Family, and their corresponding replies (with apologies to those who remained civil). Please, everyone, let's try to stick to respectful comments about the video. Thanks! :)

  • @hwivid Exactl Long Live Our Queen

  • @burnley5960 lol god save people of england and not the Queen, c'est une légère différence ;-)

  • @pinkvespa95 hahaha is this national anthem better than the american one???? LOL

  • Comment removed

  • @pinkvespa95 Bravo!! Well said I too am an American and respect and admire The Queen for like her parents who were an inspiration to the free loving nation's for refusing to leave their homeland during the blitz , HRM has been a noble Queen none like her all. and this young woman has a beautiful voice.

  • @pinkvespa95 You do know she is from New Zealand right?

  • @pinkvespa95 the monarchy is medieval system outdated and parasitic

  • @3tangle3 Oh be Quiet

  • @luke96241 So when will the election be held?

  • @thatcher88 Parliamentary elections will be held in November. No need for head of state elections when we have one who is doing a good job at the moment. And it ain't costing us a cent! ;)

  • @luke96241 Rubbish. The Queen isn't doing the job of Head of State - the Governor-General is, who no-one bar the Prime Minister gets to vote for. And they cost the NZ taxpayer about $8m p.a.

  • @holdenrepublic The Governor-general cannot do anything without the permission of the Queen. $8million is a lot cheaper than what a republic would cost.

Why fix something that ain't broke?

  • @luke96241 Er, no Luke - I'm afraid you'll find the Gov-Gen does whatever the Govt. of the day tells them to, except in instances where the reserve powers come into play. The GG is little different from a ceremonial head of state, and costs about the same (Pres of Ireland costs $7.6m p.a. - their population is almost the same as ours). The system is broken. We don't have an effective constitutional check, we don't have a head of state of our own, the PM can appoint and dismiss the GG at will.

  • @holdenrepublic We can still have a monarchy with a written constitution.

  • @luke96241 sorry, how is that relevant? We would still have a constitutionally useless monarch.

  • @holdenrepublic The PM doesn't appoint the GG, the Queen does (the PM recommends someone to the Queen). The constitution should say that the PM shouldn't have the power to dismiss the GG.

Look, arguing on this video, I find is offensive, and detracts from the actual point of it, to honour the fallen. I'm not going to agree with republicans and republicans aren't going to agree with me.

  • @luke96241 If you find it offensive, then why are you doing it? I don't know if you realise it, but most volunteers who fought for our country did so for freedom - it's just monarchist propaganda that brings up the whole "King and Country" nonsense. Don't believe me - tell me how many war memorials say "For King and Country..." There's not many.

The Queen rubber-stamps the PM's choice, but you and I both know that it's the PM's choice. Otherwise why would ex-PMs be appointed into the role?

  • @luke96241 If she is doing a good job, she has nothing to fear from a democratic election. Our head of state, the Governor General does cost us money. If we are going to get our money's worth, then we ought to have both the right to elect our head of state, or at the very least entitle them to full authority as head of state, and not have the patronizing situation where he is only representative of a foreign national. I like the queen the same way an American does.

  • Out of interest, how much support for the Monarchy is there in New Zealand?

  • @mightywindmill102 I support Monrachy and the Magna Carta.

  • @mightywindmill102 There is a republican movement in New Zealand but I belive that majority of New Zealanders support the monarchy -- for now. I think that the republican movement would increase once Australia becomes republic, after The Queen's death.

  • Poor Charles, he never will be King of England because he will be very old when her mother pass away. Prince William will be then the King.

  • @jevitigre

Charles, will eventually be king - prey in long to come and god forbid my auntie Elizabeth passes.

William is not ready to become monarch.

  • @HRHStewartIIRegina The problem with Charles to become King is that the Queen will pass away when she turns 100(like Mother Queen) by that time Charles will be to old bo be King, that`s what i say William will be the King. The only way Charles could be the Monarch is if the Queen resigns to the throne but i doubt Her Majesty do that.

  • @jevitigre By the way, I think there is a possibility that Charles can die before The Queen. In the Windsor family, women tend to live longer than men.

  • isnt it weird how the people behind her are lip singing and are taking deep breaths when they arent singing at all

  • Beautiful. Thanks so much for posting. NZ has great reason to be proud.

  • Actually the national anthems of New Zealand. Both hold equal status in NZ.

  • Beautiful voice ... I can listen to her all day and not get tired!.

  • god save our queen.....

  • she has an excellent voice.i know all the things that i have to know for travel to new zealand.(well, not all of them...i have to learn more english LOL).god defend new zealand!

i'm so sorry cause the earthquake in Canterbury destroy many things.

  • I don't blame the Queen for not smiling. There is only so many times you can hear the same song before it gets annoying and she has had to hear repeated over and over for more than 50 years! It's enough to send anyone round the bend!

  • @jaz88pa I doubt the recurring of the anthem is an issue, but honestly, who will be smiling away when the national anthem is being played?

  • She has a tendancy of singing everything xD

  • Warms my cockles.

    Long live the commonwealth realms.

  • hooray.

  • God save you also Hayley. You are a gift to the world. :) And from the US? God save the Queen.

  • @mimiller8 She's from New Zealand

  • Such a class act! Notice that she's wearing a poppy--the flower symbol used to memorialize those who died during WWI.

  • first the god defend new zealand is one of the most beatiful anthems i heard seconde the singer have a beatiful voice and face

  • What was she singing after God save the queen? What language?

  • @chufuss The first verse of the New Zealand National anthem is sung in Maori.

  • Nice hearing both of my anthems.

  • wow great voice :)

  • What a beautiful voice...

    GOD SAVE OUR QUEEN INDEED!!!

  • She's so fit! English girls are fit!

  • @monyetbau shes kiwi

  • Long live our Queen indeed!

  • the nz athem pwns the british athem so much

the british one is all about the queen, the nz athem about the country and people.

    God defend New Zealand, Aotearoa.

  • @AotearoaSoldier17

God Save the Queen is also one of New Zealand's National Anthems. God Defend New Zealand is the other. Both have equal status.

The Queen is both New Zealand's AND Britain's head of state.

Long may she reign! A living symbol of unity between so many nations!

  • @AotearoaSoldier17 You're back again! Ignoramus. Please dont listen to this him, he is the most idiotic person l I have come across!

  • @organist12345 wow you must have no life at all searching every NZ athem video for my comments, then telling me that I'm ''back'' while you are the one talking to me again.

  • @AotearoaSoldier17 i meant you're back talking rubbish. I didn't search all the NZ aNthem videos for ur comments. I have all the s**t you sent to me in my comment inbox.

Oh, and btw, I've told you many times before: "athem" is not a word. It's "anthem". Got it?

  • @organist12345 Watch your attidude, kraut. I haven't said anything for a long time, but you seem to be so pathetic that you look back into your inbox searching for my comments, so you can start a discussion again. I don't know why I'm even talking to you again, but you're a distraction I receive with open arms.

  • @organist12345 Wow... by the way you're very cultured and learned, how amazing it is you wrote "I I have come across" instead of "I have come across"! Was it "lol" and you forgot "o"? You look knowing a lot about Latin and thanks a lot for giving everyone English lesons, such as semantic lectures of what is "back" and what it is not or how to spell "anthem" correctly. Do you think you are "better" because of being British and not New Zealander. You seem the British Frenchy Chovin.

  • @organist12345 You come here to call "Ignoramus" a NZ friend. I sure don't know many things you do know and I'm not really interested in them though. You sure don't know many things others do know. Great and very well-mannered language yours one using beautiful words like "shj*t" and go on being proud of your aptitudes and attitudes. Congrat(ulation)s! (just in case you're not able to understand). I'll vote for you for the next Nobel Prize.

  • @BasqueBird you are too, an idiot. I cannot believe you are critisizing me for writing an extra "I" in my sentence. At least mine make sense. Your whole comment doesn't make any sense at all and is grammatically incorrect. I don't at all understand what the 1st sentence means, and your second and third sentences are very badly constructed.

Why would you vote for me as a nobel prize winner, I havent done anything.

Your comments are just as ridiculous as aotearoasoldier17's.

    Im German.

  • 0:52 Helen Clarke. I have not seen her in years LOL.

  • my cat would make a great Royal Servant! :) I think The queen is an incredible wonderful Lady.

  • First of all it's not appropriate to smile during the national anthem at a war memorial service ... second this was right around the time the Queen severely injured her back and she was actually in a great deal of pain throughout the service.

  • Hayley Westenra rocks!

  • Isnt that tune. America, the Beautiful?

  • No, the tune song is God Save The Queen. It is also the melody to the United States patriotic hymn "America" (also known by its first line, "My Country, 'Tis of Thee"). The Brit's were first.

  • Also "America" was written by the Colonial Americans to give King George the grand finger. I think you know which one.

  • Not true actually, "America" was written in 1837, the author had no idea that it was the same tune as "God Save the King/Queen" -- the tune itself is very famous and widely used.

  • @B21983 Yeah, in the Anglosphere, all of which was settled by Brits; all of whom would have known that this tune is 'God Save the Queen/King'

  • What a pity that the Queen can't givethe spark of a smile. Although they constantly hear great voices, but even she would have the heart a little further. From the arts is Hayley far superior to her, but the conventions require the opposite. As happy we can be us beauty and grace of Hayley's voice devoted to.

  • it's not really an occasion where she would smile, it's a war memorial

  • @alyssaathina09

Indeed, it's quite appropriate the Queen kept in a solemn mood, since it's a war memorial.

  • @alyssaathina09: Well it is a war memorial so would you smile then? She's in pain also from her back injury and yet is still there in great dignity
