  • damn congrats my friend your dad was a genius that was too good for the time

  • @migser85 Thank you for the nice comment. He passed well before he was supposed to.

  • great vid.. well done...

  • nice

  • funny how its 1990s but still has better picture quality and less signal loss than a budget set nowadays :P

  • @vanepico Actually the picture quality is better, when I encoded the video from VHS it's lost some quality. The camera was a big bulky CCD camera, like the ones you see for surveillance outside a business back in the early 90's.

  • @projectcyclopsrpv Only difference I suppose is a 250watt electric motor wont lift this setup!!!

  • @vanepico Electric motor won't even get it rolling. It had a pretty large gas engine with a 5 blade prop and it was still slow.

  • what kind of camera would i search to find something like that?

  • oh okay

  • does anyone know the rules and regulations on private uav's? I expect that in most cases they are highly illigal.

  • why? i dont think its forbidden to fly a rc plan.. and i bet its also not forbidden to mount a camera on to it.. but i guess you are not allowed to spy someone..

  • after research, range is limited to 500m and a height of 400ft. Most "fpv'ers" break the law.

  • @lordlozz1 I believe you can do more if you obtain a amateur radio license.

  • @lordlozz1 You have to understand my father was doing this way back before anyone even coined the phrase FPV...He had an amateur radio license and has been doing it since 1988...This video was made in about 1993 or 1994...He is now deceased.

  • @projectcyclopsrpv The original fpv Gansta nice too see the technology has gone a long way. now all that fits in ur back pack xD

  • @s14duma Thanks for the comment! Yes, now you can almost fit it all into your pocket!

  • @lordlozz1 If you have a Ham Radio license you will be ok for transmitting for extended distances(miles). This was my dad's project, and he is not around anymore, so I'm just going on what he told me. But the video transmission distance exceeded the control distance... Everyone keeps asking me about legality, but if you fly at a local public sanctioned flying field, it should not be a problem. If you fly one around your neighbor hood, then yes, you could get into trouble...

  • @lordlozz1 but i can legaly charter a sat for a hour and spy on almost anyone. its a mater of if your stalking someone then your in big trouble and you cant fly into military or airport airspace.

  • I was told that you could get fined $1000s

of dollars if you got cought by the faa

because this would pose a hazzard to

real aircraft is this true? please reply!

  • Considering how large it is that wouldn't surprise me.

  • i think so cuz its like spying cuz u could like fly that thing into a restrickted area and get fined

  • I remember this now. It was a great idea for those real plane pilots, who always had trouble flying models, due to orientation. Kinda tough to get it all to the field, It would be nice to have a flying site and one of these on hand permanently for all to try, like at the AMA HQ. The video was sure clear. When I tried the downlink camera with my helicopter years ago, I had lots of mechanical interference. Of course, today's stuff is crystal clear. Great video. I enjoyed it. 5 stars.

  • I'm so glad to see this on Youtube, I had no idea it had been shared. I remember this video being brought over and watching it with the family when I was a kid.

    Chip, Carl's nephew

  • Very nicely done! Congrats!

  • I read about you in my old 1992 RC Magazine, I knew that your ideas would be big someday but I could'nt imagine that 15 yrs later they could fit all that system into a small electric park flyer.Your a true visionary Sir.

  • when was this recorded? very cool.

  • Early 1990's, thanks for the comment:)

  • So it's a low cost RPV system. It's the wave of the future. Is your setup repeatable, though? If so, I imagine you might start generating lots of interest and possibly a buyer.

  • Yes, this is using old technology, you could do alot more these days...the sky is the limit.

  • so cool..

  • thats a lot of fun

  • Nice Video

  • That is COOL. hope to do the same thing with my r/c powered araglider.

  • the military has a better rc system which has a range of 400 miles and has bombs on it

  • This system doesn't cost millions of dollars to build though!

  • @projectcyclopsrpv but it did cost millions to develop

  • @ponchoyo And are illegal without a liscense.

  • @charpsteve36

    o rly

  • @ponchoyo If they are gps guided I think you need a liscence

  • very nice set-up, i am trying myelf to boost my radio signal, my video transmityion goes up to 5 km radius but the raidio only 1 km

  • Good stuff

  • Awesome. I can see how today's technology could really improve the range and picture quality. Design wise, way ahead of its time. Well done.

  • What is the range on that setup for the video and controls?

  • About 3 miles for video with clear LOS, control is considerbly less...With today's technology it could exceed that.

  • Brilliant Genius Setup

  • I actually like the plane, and the first part was a good illustration of how it works. However, that music needs to be turned off, I see no point in elevator music being dubbed into a demonstration video, as I would rather hear the sounds of the plane its self.

  • That was really good. you must love your work. Could you post somewhere a high definition of this video. thanks

  • I will get a better quality posted soon, I am not very good at encoding videos. Thanks for the comment!

  • AWESOME video. I would LOVE to have a setup like this. This is the BEST r/c setup I have ever seen. ROCK ON!
