@18scotslad thank you. i just read through the highway code book and bought the hazard perception dvd then did the practice theory tests on the dsa website. have you got your theory test soon?
Mine is at 3.00pm, after reading through topics on my DSA disc and the highway code I haven't failed any of my practices and I've done 10+. I recommend to read and keep on practising mock tests, writing down or acknowledging errors you made. As for Hazard Perception, I got this other Disc that has hundreds of them on and when revising it helps, because you might get used to watching the same ones. I actually feel confident to pass, hopefully I calm down the trigger finger on Hazard Perception!
Passed mine today 48/50 and 59/75! (Clicked too many times on one of the Hazard perception clips so make sure you only click when necessary and good luck)! :)
Had my theory test today I passed I couldnt believe it thought I would fail. Got 44/50 and 56/75 just about passed the multiple choice questions thank god. I think I was more worried about the hazard test then the questions and spent more time on that. All you need to do is practice, most of the practice questions are the same as the real thing and the hazard test is quite easy too I was surprised because I didn't do too well on the practice ones. I wish anyone whos doing theirs good luck.
I passed my test a couple of weeks ago. 50/50 and 54/75. In terms of the multiple choice just go through the questions on a quality car driving theory CD-ROM package and you should be fine because they're the same questions you'll get in your test. As for the Hazard Perception portion. Be alert. Keep focused on the screen and keep yor clicks down to a minimum. Finally stay relaxed and calm and the best of luck.
I passed recently getting 48/50 and 56/75. The best advice I can give is to complete every question on your phone/iPod, remembering any mistakes you make. This way is much quicker than doing it on your computer. Then you should complete practice tests on your computer, so you can get a good idea of how ready you are, since your scores are recorded.
The people at the test center are friendly and if you go early there's a good chance you'll be allowed to do the test early. No need to be nervous!
ATTENTION!!!Watchout guys. They fail people. There are people complaining and I bet this comment will be deleted soon. They treat one sort of people in one way, rest different.Hazard perception is there to do the job!!!YOU can not prove anything.
I wish I could do this sort of test :( I'm having mine in 4 weeks, but here we get 65 questions and only 8 seconds to answer each one.. I hate that goddamn time limit, seeing that little line getting smaller and smaller when you're trying to think of what could be the right answer..
Got mine on the 24 / 8 / 11 , practiced on the disk for a wile now , n the hpt part on the disk is out of 50 n I usali get 45 , so hopefully o should pass .........
Just passed today with 50/50 on the questions and 60/75 on the hazard perception, but I didn't get any certificate afterwards. I got a certificate number, but no actual certificate. Will I need one for booking the practical?
@ePicPrOGaMeR12345 i got the same thing today, it was just on the bottom of the sheet of A4 saying I passed and my licence number and certificate number.....did you have to ask for a proper certificate?
So my test is on the 6th September. Anyone know good things to revise from? So far ive revised from the mock tests on the DSA's website but i dont know if any of those come up in the theory. Any ideas??
The multiple choice part of the theory test is common sense while the hazard perception is just there to increase revenue. There is a possiblity of clicking too early which is absurd, your field of view is also restricted so it doesn't simulate real driving correctly and its possible for more than one hazard to develop at a time.
I failed my first one today. 49/50 on the first.. 41 on the second. Three points cost me 30 odd pound. The thing is I know the test is easy... so I feel like such a dumbass.
@MrDataCode If you have a photocard provisional licence, you'll need to bring both parts - the card and the counterpart; if you have an old-style paper licence, you'll need to bring that and a valid passport. You can also bring your confirmation letter as well if you wish. Read the page on Directgov called 'Documents to bring to your driving theory test' for more details.
Just passed mine 50/50 questions and 63/75 for hazard, but I did give feedback at the end as 'very dissatisfied' for the hazard part of the test as it's absolute tripe!:)
The HPT is complete nonsense and should be scrapped! The system cannot tell if you noticed the 'real' hazard, thought you saw something different, or just clicked at random. In some clips, the observer turns left at a T junction, without the scene showing what is happening to the left or right or behind - in which case, YOU are the hazard. In one clip, we are told that there is one developing hazard, but I spotted 8. The biggest hazard, is that you only have a 30 degree field of view!
@Masonic1016 i agress unless you are in a fully simulated car cockpit bit like what pilots use to train i cant see the hazzard test being very plausable on a 15" monitor! the field of view is restricted and like you say you the driver are the hazzard on occassions.

The Road Safety Minister, Mike Penning, has announced that the DSA is to stop the publication of the multiple choice questions used in all theory tests from 1st January 2012.
So from 2012 no training materials will contain actual live Theory Test questions. The reason for this is to stop people buying products that just help you pass the test by memorising the answers to questions. In future people will need to buy products with proper learning programmes.
I am going to be doing my theory test next week. Just wanted to ask whether there will be a case study on my test or not? The Directgov website says there will be, but i asked my driving instructor and she said no it doesnt. Please could someone reply. Thank you
@Blueraindrop22 The theory test does have a case study with five questions based on it, then 45 multiple choice questions and the hazard perception part.
Hi. When i took my theory test 2years ago, it was said that from September 2009 the test would be different. What changed? Is it more difficult? Im a bit worried cause i haven't been able to pass my practical and i've little time until my theory gets out of date.
@lenytalopes The practical driving test changed in October 2010, to include around 10 minutes of independent driving - where the examiner gives you some directions to follow. See our video 'Independent driving in the driving test: what is it?' for more info.
What an absolutely appalling group the DSA is, masquerading under the disguise of “driving standards” this organisation has shown its self to be without shame in the effort of its main goal to brainwash young drivers and take as much money as possible from them.
Insurance prices are well in excess of £4000 ($9000) for nothing more than a mediocre car with a lousy 1.1 LITRE engine for any male driver as the insurance companies are fed up paying out claims for poorly educated young drivers.
Watched this video before and after my Theory test, I PASSED!! :D
Got 49 out of 50.
It's really easy once you have the book, I had the 2010 edition and read the 400 pages in about 3 weeks. 20 pages a day only takes 5-10 minutes. It's as easy as that. Remember to have a good breakfast and go to the loo before you take it. GOOD LUCK!! :)
yeah!!!!!!!!!!!!!! passed my test this morning with 46 for theory and 56 for hazard ..... the lord is good // i really worked hard for this and nw i am enjoying my hard work. good luck to everyone waiting to take theirs.
@MrChidimma the success driving test cd rom my son has states you need 86% for theory and 68% for hazard perception.... to pass both tests, is this not the case?????????????????
lol some of the questions on multiple choice are like 'IF YOUR LOST DO YOU A) WIND DOWN YOUR WINDOW AND SHOUT TO THE DRIVER NEXT TO YOU WHERE TO GO B) HONK YOUR HORN TO SAY HELLO TO FELLOW DRIVERS C) STOP AS SOON AS YOU REALIZE YOU'RE LOST, REGUARDLESS OF WHERE YOUR POSITIONED D) PULL UP IN A SAFE SUITABLE PLACE TO CHECK A MAP lmfao, I used the book with all the official DSA questions, and highway code for the road symbols
There is something seriously wrong if you fail your HP! It is mostly common sense. I used an app on my iPhone but ya can get all sorts of help in many forms. Passed my practical 1 month ago also, stick with it guys.
Help is here for learner drivers. Go to Facebook and look up 'I can't wait to pass my driving test' and you'll find a page with tips and advice, and discussion boards to chat to instructors and other learners. If you're on twitter you can also chat to @Liz_DSA for pointers to advice.
if u don't have the test appointment letter no problem check online whether u r booked and take with you the photocard and paper part of the provisional license.thats enough. i lost it but had no problem. pearson didn't ask about it. i also enquired dvla before going to the center they said no need.
passed mine today theory 50/49 hazard, as long as you practice its pretty easy and the case study is useless its just a random 5 theory test questions, what is the point of that
I passed today. 46/50 on the questions and 55/75 on the HP. These other guys are right about the case study being pointless, the questions weren't specifically related to it at all. Also, I took part in the trial for new HP questions, definitely reccommend the animated ones, so much clearer to see everything than the crappy cameras you use for the current videos (no offence).
I HAVENT RECIEVED ANY LETTER THROUGH THE POST FROM THE DSA TO SAY ANYTHING ABOUT MY THEORY TEST, AND I BOOKED MY THEORY TEST LIKE 2 WEEKS AGO. HOWEVER I HAVE WRITTEN DOWN MY CONFIRMATION NUMBER AND EVERYTHING HAS BEEN BOOKED I JUST WANTED TO KNOW IS THE CONFIRMATION NUMBER THE SAME AS THE BOOKING NUMBER? LET ME KNOW ASAP PLEASE AS I HAVE MY THEORY TEST IN 4 DAYS
I have to say, I see absolutely no point in the so-called Case Study - the questions linked to it can be easily answered without reading the case study at all.
For the hazard perception section of the test do you need to click the mouse to changes in speed (so if the speed limit changes to 30 from a 60 say), or are those not seen as hazards, rather just changes in your maximum allowed speed?
Also at 4.02, there is a bike overtaking a car transporter and a car is reversing onto the transporter. Are those two hazards together or is it just the bike, as a reversing car could potentially be a hazard if the driver got the angle wrong onto the transporter.
@MissDepp63 The maximum you can score for each developing hazard is five points. You should respond by pressing the mouse button as soon as you see a hazard developing that may result in you, the driver, having to take some action, such as changing speed or direction. The earlier you notice a developing hazard and make a response, the higer your score.
@Davidf3000 The multiple-choice questions are random in the theory test. You can read more about the theory test, and take a practice theory test on the Directgov website.
@alwaysallblacks No you can click if you think that something may develop into a hazard even if it does not it does not matter as it is the developing hazard that you are marked on
You will be presented with a series of video clips which feature every day road scenes. In each clip there will be at least one developing hazard, but one of the clips will feature two developing hazards.
To achieve a high score you will need to respond to the developing hazard during the early part of its development. The maximum you can score on each hazard is five.
Take good advice from an A.D.I.If you can use a PC/DVD and study methodically. If not study the theory question book read and learn from every question. Then you will pass the theory test and prepare yourself well for the harder part, the practical part of your test.Best of luck.Melvin.A.D.I.
That's quite a long way off! Didn't the test centre have any earlier dates available or did you choose to take it that far off?
The theory test is easily passable with a few hours of revision each day for 7 - 10 days.
I found the "driving test success" CD for the PC to be very useful, it's basically just like the real test and all of the questions which I had in my theory was on that CD.
It's also got loads of hazard perception practice tests which is very useful.
I just passed my theory test! :D yaaaaaay!

Can the test be done in British Sign Language not a written language?
PollyEsterFlares 4 months ago
@PollyEsterFlares If you are deaf or have hearing difficulties you can ask to take the theory test in British sign language (BSL).
The BSL interpretation will run alongside the standard test questions and answers.
If you do not use BSL, an interpreter can be taken into the test centre. This needs to be arranged through the theory test customer services section.
There is no extra fee for either facility.

Help is here for learner drivers. Go to Facebook and look up 'I can't wait to pass my driving test' and you'll find a page with tips and advice, and discussion boards to chat to instructors and other learners. If you're on twitter you can also chat to @Liz_DSA for pointers to advice.

the hazard test is a joke the pass mark should be lower, and 50 questions is way too many on the first part
AdamCW2k5 1 year ago
passed mine today theory 50/49 hazard, as long as you practice its pretty easy and the case study is useless its just a random 5 theory test questions, what is the point of that
jayjax18 1 year ago
I passed today. 46/50 on the questions and 55/75 on the HP. These other guys are right about the case study being pointless, the questions weren't specifically related to it at all. Also, I took part in the trial for new HP questions, definitely reccommend the animated ones, so much clearer to see everything than the crappy cameras you use for the current videos (no offence).

How often can you click the mouse button during the hazard perception part of the test before it is considered 'too many'?

What do you get scored on for the hazard perception test - as in why is there only one/two scorable hazards in each clip but you get marked out of 5?
MissDepp63 1 year ago
@MissDepp63 The maximum you can score for each developing hazard is five points. You should respond by pressing the mouse button as soon as you see a hazard developing that may result in you, the driver, having to take some action, such as changing speed or direction. The earlier you notice a developing hazard and make a response, the higer your score.

Is there a website somewhere were it gives you the most common questions qhich come up?
Davidf3000 1 year ago
@Davidf3000 The multiple-choice questions are random in the theory test. You can read more about the theory test, and take a practice theory test on the Directgov website.

you need mutiple choice

right if there is only 1 developing hazzard on each clip does that mean i would lose a mark for clicking when there is a nother smaller hazzard?
alwaysallblacks 1 year ago
@alwaysallblacks No you can click if you think that something may develop into a hazard even if it does not it does not matter as it is the developing hazard that you are marked on

are there any more videos about theory test?
AdRenaLinMMIX 1 year ago
How many of the hazards do you need to spot to pass the test?
54321Ahem 1 year ago
You will be presented with a series of video clips which feature every day road scenes. In each clip there will be at least one developing hazard, but one of the clips will feature two developing hazards.
To achieve a high score you will need to respond to the developing hazard during the early part of its development. The maximum you can score on each hazard is five.
dsagov 1 year ago
So theres 14 clips altogether?
54321Ahem 1 year ago
That's right - there are 14 clips in total.
In each clip there'll be at least one developing hazard, but in one of the clips there'll be two developing hazards.
Check out the 'theory test explained' page on the Directgov website for more info.
dsagov 1 year ago
You'll need to score 44 out of 75 to pass the hazard perception part of the test.
If you pass one part and fail the other you'll fail the whole test, and you'll need to take both parts again.

It's available from Amazon.
