The ideas expressed by the CCHR are so extreme, bizarre, irrational, illogical and ridiculous that it is impossible to take them (or Dianetics) seriously or reasonable in any way. For example, Hubbard (and the Church of Scientology) blames psychiatry for the rise of Hitler and Stalin, World War 2, the Holocaust, the attack on the Twin Towers of the World Trade Centre on 9/11, the Virginia Tech shootings, the war in Kosova and numerous other international tragedies.

I can't speak for CCHR, but my girlfriend was badly abused as a child and developed symptoms of PTSD. Rather than treat her for PTSD and child abuse, she was institutionalized, and the drugs she was given while institutionalized causes symptoms of psychotic disorders she didn't have. It physically and mentally hurt her, badly, and only after being off the drugs for months did she finally start to get back to normal.

Now she's a healthy, happy, and beautiful woman. The drugs almost killed her.

Some people need psychiatric drugs, those people are however in the extreme minority.

When toddlers are being diagnosed with bi-polar disorder something is clearly wrong. When normal healthy children are given drugs that cause anxiety, depression, and psychotic episodes then given more drugs to treat those drug induced disorders, something is wrong.

CCHR may be lunatic scientologist, I don't know them so I can't say, but I do know that our psychiatric institutions are borderline criminal.

Can we then agree that obliterating psychiatry and psychiatrists from this planet is not the solution at all, given that "people in the extreme minority" still need them? Because that's the irrational logic of the CCHR - that psychiatry is responsible for all the evil in the world, that psychiatry doesn't help ANYBODY, and that psychiatry should be removed from this planet.

Their problem is not with psychiatry - it is with those who prescribe psych drugs as quick fixes.

Of course we can agree that Obliterating Psychiatry and Psychiatrist isn't the solution, psychiatry is an important profession and it's not like this in all nations. We just have an insurance system that's set up to reward exploitation and corruption.

Some people actually need some of those drugs, the more tried and true ones especially. The problem is that for everyone who needs medication there are a thousand taking pills who don't and that's causing mental illness, not treating it.

Then I'm glad we can agree on something. Personally, I am neither for nor against psychiatry, but I am opposed to the global obliteration of psychiatry by the CCHR, a Scientology front group, which started because L. Ron Hubbard's Dianetics was rejected in 1950 and he holds a grudge against psychiatry. I am opposed to anything that furthers Scientology's agenda, as it is a sinister and corrupt organization that would manufacture crimes for psychiatrists.

I'm opposed to Scientology in general, and I agree it isn't above manufacturing crimes to accuse people of. I know for a fact that children are treated worse than animals in many of our psychiatric institutions, but if I were part of any organization trying to do something about it I would want to distance myself as much as I could from scientology. I checked their site, they talk about their connection with Scientology right there on their web page. That pretty much tells me it's a scam.

In 1950, Hubbard originally created Dianetics to be an adjunct to psychiatry, and respected psychiatry as he sought psychiatric help himself several times. However, not surprisingly, Dianetics was rejected completely by the Psychiatric and Medical community and Hubbard took this rejection personally and became intensely bitter and paranoid towards Psychiatry. So, in 1969, he set up the Citizens Commission on Human Rights (CCHR) to expose what he considered to be the evils of psychiatry.

@OpenComments I don't believe I saw anywhere in drazioms post anything about scientology?? They simply made a statement about psychiatry. Why do you ignore the possibility of any wrongdoing on the part of psychiatry and automatically jump on scientology? I don't know all of those people listed, but I think it is out of line to say that scientology "killed" Jett Travolta.

Draziom203 is a Scientologist who only opposes psychiatry because Scientologists have this irrational hatred of psychiatry. They blame psychiatry for 9/11, the virginia tech massacres, the holocaust, World War II, and so forth. When the agenda of hate for psychiatry comes from the Church of Scientology, it is based on irrational conclusions, because the only reason why Scientology opposes psychiatry is because of L. Ron Hubbard's grudge when they rejected Dianetics.

As well, you can go ahead and call me out of line when I say Scientology killed Jett Travolta, but the fact of the matter is, Jett died due to a seizure. If Scientology did not have such an irrational hatred for psych drugs, they wouldn't deny people their seizure medication. John Travolta and Kelly Preston initially tried to pass off Jett's death as from Kawasaki syndrome, when it was actually from a seizure. A seizure that psychiatric drugs could have helped, prevented by Scientology.

If you know that draziom is a scientologist and hates psychiatry no matter what, then ok, I understand if you don't agree with him. But I just think it's important to understand that scientologists are not the only ones who oppose drugs, a lot of people do and a lot of people are very disturbed by our culture's obvious dependence on drugs for everything.

Also, I think this is one of those cases where people think, if you took drugs then you did everything you could. Like if you try a different approach then everyone will say "why wasn't he being "treated"? (with drugs). But if you give someone medicine, then you were "treating" the problem. You can still have all sorts of problems even while taking the drugs, but that's ok to society...it's only a problem if you tried an approach besides western medicine.

No ADD and ADHD does in fact exist and is in fact a problem, but most children diagnosed with it don't have it.

Oddly enough some adults not diagnosed with it have all of the symptoms. We just don't diagnose adults like we eagerly diagnose children, why is that?

Because it's usually a teacher who notices that the child has "behavior problems" and tells the parents that they need to be on medication for ADHD. It has more to with how the kid is behaving in class than whether they actually have a disorder. Given the fact that kids sit around watching TV and eating crappy food, and now schools are even taking away recess time, is it any wonder that kids might get a little cranky or restless in class?

I feel like the entire country is taking stupid pills or something. I mean as parents and adults we need to take responsibility of our children. People need to stop looking to the doctor and the pharmacist as God and start thinking for themselves. Why do we treat symptoms insead of finding the root of the problem and fixing it?

The schools need to stop pushing this agenda. I have two kids who both had teachers who recommended they be tested for ADHD and ADD. I refused. They are now 15 and 17 and have close to 4.0 GPA's. I have not have a lick of trouble from either child. Almost all Foster kids are placed on these drugs without even seeing a doctor. I was one of these kids years ago. I know this will sound bad but parents try your kids meds.. see the world through their eyes. I think you will see things differently.

I am very disturbed by the fact that schools are now pushing this and I agree completely that foster kids and probably most low income children are getting the worst of it. I have a relative with many foster children and each of them are on at least one medication.

Please go to Yahoo and type in "Horrible Truth About Psychiatric Drugs" to see a research paper exposing these drugs. Also so the search "Documented Proof Psychiatric Drugs Shorten Lifespan". Be sure to include the quotes. You will learn information no psychiatrist will tell you. These drugs destroy fertility and libido and cause impotence and extream disphoria and obesity. The promote suicide and violence not prevent it.

Please understand that the Church of Scientology is more than you think. Please make an informed decision before continuing taking Scientology courses. I have nothing against your beliefs (which is why I don't protest the freezoners) - just the vicious policies of Scientology's management. Did you know that they are not above using your own preclear folder against you, as blackmail? Did you know that their intelligence department (OSA) would kill a critic's pet to silence them?
