  • You can do it with spray paint as well.

  • lol, after seeing that eat through Styrofoam I'd be afraid to get it on my skin :P

  • i thought the same thing when i saw this part on the movie

  • acrylic weld does the same thing.

  • THEY GOT ACID FOR BLOOD !

  • we did this experiment at school. Basically, polystyrene as we use it has a lot of air, like 90% of it is trapped air. Using acetona or nail polish remover just releases the air and leaves you with the polymer.

  • cool!

  • its only nail polish remover....

  • wow thats actually kinda kool!

  • that web-like stuff afterward looks so awesome...

  • Works with simple gasoline too

  • i hope this doesnt go through human skin

  • Yes it does. :P

  • @lH0VA i have poured this on my hand before as long as it aint industrial its perfectly safe

  • @lH0VA alchohol is perfectly safe just dont drink it

  • if its nail ponish remover than its made for human skin nothin will happen dont worry ;)

  • its alcohol it wont hurt u lol

  • If i remember correctly they made the floor and props out of polystyrene but they used real acid not acetone.

I think they mention this on the Alien Quadrilogy DVD.

  • It would be so cool if we were to make a contest, for whoever does the best recreation of the effect, complete with floor texture, lighting, smoke, even maybe creature effects.

  • "That crap is gonna eat through the hull" lol. I actually did this for my friends they thought it was awsome

  • Thanks :D

  • very cool

  • that is so cool they just made the Grating or whatever they wanted to eat away then they made the alien's acid blood out of acetone and whatever else they used to make the green blood. then they probably used something fizzy or something that smokes for example in Aliens the guy's armor as he exits the elevator with Ripley after shooting the alien.

  • Can you get different coloured polystyrene, or would food dye in the acetona work to colour it? Nice vid BTW!

  • ha, that's a SWEET effect

  • u can do same thing with gasoline:D u can make napalm like that:D

  • put that acid on your hand

  • It's not acid, that's acetone, used to remove nail polish. Girls use it to remove the paint on their nails.

  • It won't eat through skin dumbass. its jusy finger nail polish remover.

  • FAIL

  • thats sooo cool

  • Pretty epic

  • WOW. This REAL!

  • like a spider web

  • cool

  • According to the DVD, they used styrofoam and a mixture of certain strong acids, chloroform was one of them. This still was very cool though.

  • kool nice

  • Theres no gas given off, only aceton wich is vaporizing.

It's not very healthy but it's no problem to do this in unventilated rooms.

Aceton is very often used for cleaning floors, even in unventilated rooms;-)

  • Do you have any idea what gas is given off in that reaction? dont do it in an unventilated room! its bad MMMKAYYY.

  • I can barely hear you.

  • it's funny that people rate my comment as bad...

Because IT IS a physikal reaktion

it's only solving the polystyrene in acetone, which is a physical thing.

Because of this the air inside of the polystyrene can go out and the whole thing looks like the polystyrene would go away, but it's always there, In the beginning its solid and then its solved in aceton...

Try it out if you don't believe, in the end your aceton will be a sticky thing because of the solved polystyrene!

  • This is true

  • ahh so the polystyrene is becoming a solvent in the aceton thus giving it liquid properties?

  • that's awesome, i gotta try that

  • wow holy shit ya it looks good wow nice discovery.oh and this is not my user

  • it realy works i tried!!!

  • that is cool!

  • cool thanks for posting

  • Fucking awesome! Now I'll have added a new idea to my aresenal of movie making ideas. Thanks dude!

  • dude I tried it. it didnt work. do you need, like pure acetona?

  • nailpolish remover works just aswel

  • takes longer

  • yeh it depends wat type of styrafoam or wat brand of nailpolish

  • Cool

  • This does not explain the steaming effect they had when the acid splashed onto a surface.

  • Umm, I'm not entirely sure.. but for all you stupid people, read the definition... It's friggen nail polish remover, it wouldn't do that to your skin, and the only reason it worked kinda like acid, was because it was poured onto polystyrene (AKA Styrofoam) Chemical reactions pwns even the might of Chuck norris

  • Lol Falcon, funny you say that I just learned that in Science class 2 days ago :P

-Jeez, I remember posting this even though I posted it 8 months ago O.O

  • no man its chemical look closely

  • um it will do a diferent afetion 2 your skin dumb ass

  • @Cowmom63 - That's what I said you retard, if your gonna tell me I'm wrong atleast read what I wrote correctly first. And please for the sake of humanity, L2Spell.

  • i wonder if it would do that to your skin too! but I agree w/ alpomo

  • use it to melt marshmallows

  • Nice! I could watch styrofoam melting all day.

  • COOL! :D

  • i gotta get me some acetona... hehehe, im going to pour it on my school desk and say we hav termites lol
