  • 2:05 it's the dude (on the left) from Canada's worst driver

  • The guy in the bowler hat from Supergrass kinda looks like Paul McCartney

  • whats amazing is that the Beatles seem to be alot more popular with males these days than with females. Back in the first few years, they were considered a band for girls only. And alot of guys didn't like them because they were kind of a boy band. But now in 2011, women seem to have moved on more to dance oriented music.

  • @coffeecat73 you are so right.i guess back then males were more intimidated by the beatles cause girls liked them.now girls listen to lady gag crap and katy perry and other crap like that.

  • the beatles gave me my first true musical experience where you see music as more than sounds but as something unexplainably magical and touching

  • the beatles is what brought what we have now i love them they inspired me to start my band people may disagree with my taste but they were freaking brilliant i love what they brought in the past for me to hear now my whole life goal is to be like the beatles right now i'm sorta living that dream

  • SUPERGRASSSSSSSS!!!! :-)

  • then why do people continue to almost-overwhelmingly name the beatles as the greatest rock band of all time, if they don't pop into one's head as a rock band?

those groups aren't a definition of rock music; they're a list of groups that (generally) rock harder than the beatles. some types of rock music are harder than others (compare, for example, metal to folk-rock).

  • Dude from Supergrass looks like Paul McCartney.

  • Continued... Syd Barrett, while odd a genius. Roger Waters; again, The Wall? Dar Side? Wish You Were Here? Whoa, deep songs that make sense? Songs that have concept and meaning? Songs that don't sound like the track prior?

    Pink Floyd > Music.

The Other Bands you listed= fantastic, but PF > them.

Landfill where my graduation presesnt (Abbey Road) is > Beatles.

  • @8x26x08 Your mom must also be in that landfill

  • Comment removed

  • @8x26x08 aside from the fact that you seem like an insufferable, attention-whoring little douchebag, i can actually sympathize with your pushing floyd so hard. i actually love both floyd and the beatles, and i think floyd is often grossly under-appreciated.

that said, what i can't sympathize with is your pathetic attempt to turn your subjective preferences into an objective comparison. she loves you really sounds like i am the walrus or helter skelter? you simply don't explain how.

  • @brenwilliams I'm glad that you can derive my douchbaggery through my dislike for the Beatles? Haha, that was cool. And I like how you use those three songs. I mean, of course their most dominant hits don't sound alike, but their music get repetitive. Not necessarily note for note, but you get tired of hearing that ugly sounding beginner course guitar, drum and bass through every piece of material. Maybe some would like that, if they never had the chance to experience real music.

  • @8x26x08 and their music was easy, non-technical and unoriginal? hell, pretty much all of their contemporaries (e.g. gilmour), and thousands of critics, authors, musicians, etc. would beg to differ. so why should we accept the unsupported opinion of some anonymous jackass on youtube over any of theirs? you don't say.

and of course- they were POP, not ROCK. but rock is synthesis, and their music practically defines that term, not to mention that they could f'ing rock when they wanted to..

  • @brenwilliams I do not believe that Gilmour ever cited the Beatles as any kind of any importance to him. I never demanded, or tried to demand your acceptance. So yes, I did not say because I didn't say that anyways. And if they were pop, which they were, I don't understand why everyone credits them for rock music. I don't consider anything they've ever done to be rock, even if they really really wanted to.

  • @8x26x08 so "revolution" or "helter skelter" aren't rock? that just doesn't make sense, i'm sorry.

and if you don't believe that gilmour ever cited them as being of importance to him, just google: the beatles david gilmour. read and listen. educate yourself.

  • @brenwilliams actually i derive your douchebaggery from your unsupported statements and complete ignorance of logic.

that said, you like how i use those three songs? well, i'm happy to point to any number of their songs that don't sound anything alike.

now, please define "rock music" for me and explain how nothing they did qualifies as such. and then please explain to me what "real music" is. and then, again, please show me some of your stuff that is clearly better than the their stuff.

  • @brenwilliams Ignorance of logic towards the Beatles? Please, I grew up with that garbage in my house. I've heard it enough, to the point where my attitude completely changes when I hear their music. And, Like I've said, not note for not; jut the whole attitude and feel of it. Rock, like Styx, Led Zeppelin, Boston, Rush, AC/DC, Aerosmith, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Outlaws, Mountain, Cream, Jimi Hendrix, Peter Frampton, Queen, The Doors, The Who, David Glen Eisley; that's rock.

  • @8x26x08 ignorance of logic in regards to supporting an argument. that statement has nothing to do with the beatles.

i prefer the beatles and floyd to the stones and zeppelin. i prefer the more experimental and melodic forms of rock to the moroe generic blues-driven forms of rock. that's just me. what you don't see me doing, however, is arguing that what i prefer is rock because "that's rock." it's all rock, brother.

  • @brenwilliams Rock, like metal, cannot be defined. But, it's just what you think of. Seriously, Beatles come to your head when you hear 'rock'? Real music, is stuff that takes time, things that fit, make sense, giving variety and difference; thing, to my knowledge (which is extended) is not something the Beatles hold. And, it isn't like there are unknown people that have more talent than those known. Justin Bieber? I know several marvelous singers, ones that put him to shame.

  • @8x26x08 "Real music, is stuff that takes time, things that fit, make sense, giving variety and difference; thing, to my knowledge (which is extended) is not something the Beatles hold."

Fine. now please explain how (according to your extended knowledge).

And I never stated that there aren't unknown people with mor etalent than those who are known. And I find this comment especially odd considering your willingness to point to famous artists in order to define rock.

  • @brenwilliams Well, one, I even said that it cannot be defined, so I gave examples. Yes, I used famous ones because it would make no sense to use ones that no one knows of.

Takes time: Though a year isn't exactly short, coming up with one or two albums a year seems a tad rushed. In my opinion, none of their lyrics make sense, or are themed the same, and again, there is no variety, all basic music that I, or anyone could easily replicate, complicate, etc.

  • @8x26x08 well at least you're willing to admit that these terms you throw around are subjective.

so an album per year is "rushed." what then about the fact that floyd released an album per year until dark side? isn't it possible that the the time deemed required for making an album has increased over time? the beatles started with two albums per year, then moved to one. floyd started at one per year, then moved to one every two years.

where is an album a "tad rushed" and where is it not?

  • @8x26x08 do their lyrics not make sense, or are they all themed the same? you simply can't hold both positions.

i don't see how anyone can state that there is "no variety" in their music, at least without further explantion. the beatles are widely regarded as one of the most diverse and prolific artists of their era. this group essentielly defined synthesis (which is, in turn, perhaps one of the best definitions of "rock") in their time.

but really, do explain how they lacked "variety."

  • @8x26x08 really, they made music that you or anyone could easily replicate or "complicate"? and this from the guy who has previously pointed out "comfortably numb" as an ideal song? even i can play that song, with its simple Bm, A, Em, etc. chord structure, and its typical verse-structure-verse progression.

my point being, any song can be replicated or "complicated." but let's give respect to those who created those great songs, and not pretend that our subjective preferences are objective.

  • @brenwilliams I'm glad you made this comment. Thank you for learning how to argue instead of not being pleased with someones statements (Partially what I have been doing). Good show sir, though I do not like the Beatles, I have been trolling this whole time. You've passed the test sir.

  • @8x26x08 Cool.

  • @brenwilliams I know guitarists that would put Malmsteen or Van Halen to shame, I know a bassist, who could put Billy Sheehan or Les Claypool away, if the time came. But I don't know a drummer better than Neil Pert, that doesn't happen.

  • @brenwilliams Well think about it; when rock music pops into the brain, well I've not once met a person, to my knowledge, that think Beatles. Rock, like Styx, Led Zeppelin, Boston, Rush, AC/DC, Aerosmith, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Outlaws, Mountain, Cream, Jimi Hendrix, Peter Frampton, Queen, The Doors, The Who, David Glen Eisley; that's rock.

  • @brenwilliams And, yes I've seen those videos. Must've slipped my mind, such a disgusting performance.

  • @8x26x08 which videos are you referring to? there are a few. and also, i was mostly trying to guide you towards the first result, which quoted gilmour as stating that he wishes he could have been a part of the beatles.

i guess gilmour always wanted to be a POP start, not a real ROCK star, huh?

  • @8x26x08 if you really could be lennon and mccartney, then please, go and do it. and thus prove to all of us how the beatles weren't complex, innovative, etc.

after all, it's easy to make music and albums like they did, right?

  • @brenwilliams Pretty much, I can strum chords and work in scales too. I can play the piano, the bass and the drums. Simple basslines, drumbeats, guitar. I mean, it isn't like some complicated branch of math, where you have to know it extremely well to do it, anyone can tell that their music is simple. It doesn't take a genius to figure that out.

  • wait, so you can play blues-rock music? so can i.

now what kind of material have you created that compares to the beatles' catalogue?

  • If I'm ever a famous musician, I'm going to make sure that the world know of my hatred and disrespect for the Beatles.

  • @8x26x08 cool. then, hundreds will call you a hero, while millions laugh at you

  • @JoeMamaNewAccount I'm not sure of that. It will just be a thing they hear, just like if anyone says anything else. Do you think anybody think that these folks are heros for saying that they like the Beatles? Or laugh at them? No, it's just a thing they hear. I laugh at you for a stupid comment.

  • @8x26x08 Ya, you're right. It would just be a thing they hear and then forget about 20 seconds later. Seriously? Do you think THE WORLD gives a god damn about what you say IF you ever become a famous musician? You will probably get slammed by others in the music buisness if you do. Pink Floyd is great, but they are no Beatles. Good luck making it in todays music world because, unless you are a GQ model lookin fuck or you sell out to get a record deal, you wont get very far.

  • @8x26x08 Continued... What do you have against The Beatles? What do they do that is so bad? How is ANYTHING that Floyd wrote even compare to a song like Let It Be or Hey Jude or All You Need Is Love? And, by the way: Beatles > Queen > Zeppelin > The Who > Floyd IMO

  • @JoeMamaNewAccount I don't how... hm, how about real music? All of Beatles music is basic, easy easy stuff that has no technicality or originality in it. Have you heard the solo(s) to Comfortably Numb? That last solo, is better than any of the Beatles solos combined. The Wall in general, well I don't even know how that doesn't compare/step all over Beatles. All of Beatles music is real happy go-lcuky faggoty, peace love, 'try to be random/mysterious so that people will think we're sweet!"

  • @8x26x08 listen to: Happiness is a warm gun, Helter Skelter, and Revolution. THEN call them faggoty

  • @JoeMamaNewAccount Hm, like I said; I grew up with this shit; and hated it. I know what I'm talking about. I'm not just an asshole who talks out of his ass w/o knowing anything; I know all their shit man. They are FAGGOTY.

And god, my mom in the landfill?! O wow, POWERFUL.

Last time I hear that, I was in second grade.

  • @8x26x08 Faggoty? ok. I hope you know that they got more pussy than you will ever see in your life. NOW whos tlaking out of their ass.

  • @JoeMamaNewAccount Just because that's typical rockstar of one to get pussy all of the time backstage, doesn't make it true, or make it true of them. Plus, they weren't rockstars. They were popstars.

  • @JoeMamaNewAccount Continued...

Submarines? Walruses? I mean, yeah, a band can be metaphorical or odd, but stupid is different. All of their music sounds the same; it's almost like the cover themselves. Pink Floyd is so versatile. Lyrics and music that are pure genius, deep, sensible. It's odd that Dark Side of the Moon outsells the Beatles most selling album by a large margin. I could be Paul McCartney, and Lennon too; only I'm not dead. Richard Wright is what I would call, a real pianist.

  • The Beatles suck and all these bands on this video suck.

  • @unida20

    Hope you're kidding.

  • @unida20 Truth, except for Yeah Yeah Yeahs.

  • Radiohead in the backround during the first interview, don't know why that made me jump for joy.

  • Overplayed. I used to love the beatles, Really can't stand all the deserved praise. My father tells me (child of the 60's living in detroit. "they were like the boy band,We just wanted to get drunk and listen to rock n' roll". And he actually really digs them now. Funny how that works. It's like enough allready we NEED a NEW Sound!

  • rubber soul

  • @Stranglers1963

I love Pink Floyd very much (one of my favorite bands), but The Beatles came before them.

  • hah beth ditto drinking diet coke

  • brilliant band :)

  • 1:00 lolz if it werent for that thumb moving i wouldve thought Nick was dead

  • Just get every Beatles record and listen to them in order from start to finish.

    Then do it again...

  • awsomee :)

  • all my life my parents have played the beatles and i thank them.

  • my mom played the beatles ever since i was born....she always played 1.....my dad listens to the shit thats on hit radio....thank god for my mom.....i am hooked on the beatles and i think theyre gods and john lennon is my hero!!

  • At age 3, my mom told me "You can look at my records, that's fine, but don't touch my Beatles records." That's all it took. When my mom finally broke out her collection and put on "The White Album," I was hooked for life. I feel so sorry for those who have never had that magical first meeting with The Beatles where their lives were never the same afterward.

  • i started listening beatles at age of 8 thanks to my mom's vinyl of sgt Pepper

  • Kaiser Chiefs!! <33

  • ya ya ya middle guy is cool

  • The yeah yeah yeahs are awesome

  • @MachineMan79 "she loves you yeah yeah yeah" ... ring a bell?

  • nice (Y)

  • you mispelled yeah yeah yeahs as 'yeah yeah yeays.'

can i just say how sexy Karen O really is?

  • <3 the beatles

  • if you don't like the beatles, it's because you haven't heard them.

seriously, i can't see how it's possible to dislike them.

  • i agree to that. i've never really checked them out properly. i was born in the 90s and i've only ever really been bands like Nirvana and Kings of Leon.

i recognise the Beatles as a band who revolutionised rock and were responsible for inspiring the bands i love today. any song suggestions that i should definetly check out?

I loved their song 'Come Together' which i first heard thanks to Aerosmith and now i'd like to get into the spirit of the Beatles.

  • haha, i used to be just like you - i respected the beatles, but never really heard them.

hmm, well, i'd suggest starting out with some of their earlier stuff, like 'please please me' or 'a hard days night', and then work your way up their discography - it's probably the best way to experience a band. start at the early stuff, then go up to the more newer, until you end with the newest. it gives a good overlook over a band. but, all in all, try 'revolver' or 'rubber soul'. they're my fav albums

  • thanks for the suggestions, i really apprecaite it.

  • okay - that might've been a little confusing, haha. but if you want to try it all - just work up their discography. if you want a little snippet and see if it's something for you - 'revolver' or 'rubber souls' are my suggestions. people would probably disagree though. :)

  • alright, thanks for replying.

  • if you get revolver, abbey road and Sgt. Peppers - they're amazing. If you like them, get the white album and rubber soul :)

  • so uve never listened to the beatles , u listen to aerosmith and thats how u first listened to come together , u should be embarresed of youreself

  • as if i'm going to listen to an illiterate degenerate like yourself.

    'so uve' - 'u listen' - 'u first' - 'u should' - 'youreself'

you don't know anything about me. you couldn't even type ONE single in perfect sense.

who are you trying to impress? nobody gives a fuck. you're just another wannabe tough nut hiding behind a computer screen.

many people get into bands in different ways and it doesn't matter, every member of the beatles would agree to that.

    take that to heart.

  • thts just the way i talk mate seen as im from brum, i aint tryin to impress anyone just think its fucking embarrassing that u listen to fuckin aerosmith and thts how u first heard come together

  • @shadowpuppet89

aidenmccloskey's totally right. it's not about HOW you discover the band. it's just aslong as you discover them. aerosmith are a great band, there's no shame, in getting into the beatles through aerosmith. infact, i'm sure there are hundreds of people around the world, who got into aerosmith before the beatles and then through aerosmith, into the beatles.

at least he's taking the effort to ask for help from beatles fans. he didnt ask for little dicks making smart comments.

  • 'all your saying' - nobody seems to give a fuck about what your saying, apart from you. nobody's going to read and care about what you're saying apart from you.

you've been fucking told. now leave it.

  • well you seem to give a fuck , and it wasnt even u i replied to in the fist place lol

  • Yeah I know. My sister doesn't like the Beatles but I think that it's just because she doesn't understand them or listen to them.

  • @Tinewashere that's true, i once hated the beatles, but i didnt listened to them back then. now im a fan

  • @Tinewashere fuck the beatles.

  • @Duckshmm jealous you'll never be remembered as they are today? ya i think so hahahhahahaha!

  • @Duckshmm no, fuck you

  • @Tinewashere I don't, and I grew up listening to them because of my parents all the way until I moved out after high school.

    Beatles are shit.

    Pink Floyd > Beatles.

  • @Tinewashere i dont like em :)

  • @OosGuitar congrats, want a medal?

  • yeah who are these people...must be fairly new

    :P

  • Loved it!

    Thanks NME!

  • never heard of them are they a punk band?

  • lol

  • Basically yeah.

  • the beatles are king

  • Really awesome- I love a lot of the artists on here and it's great to hear their take on a band I've loved all my life.
