So Matthew wanted to prove that Jesus was the Messiah. The book of Mark was written primarily for Jewish Christians and Gentile Christians so of course Matthew and Mark will tell different stories because they have different audiences. Also different writers find certain things more important about a certain situation. So it does not prove it's wrong it just proves that people can write different things about a situation.

If there is a car accident on the freeway and if you talk to the witnesses not all the stories will be exactly the same so does that mean that the accident never happened. No it just means people had very different view of the situations. You have to remember that each gospel writers were writing to different groups of people. such as in the book of Matthew he was writing to a largely Jewish population. Majority of the Jews did not believe that Jesus was the Messiah.
