at first, seeing eva 2 killing those eva 5 like ease, i was thinking " are you serious" then when they show their true form with the duplicated version of lance of longinus, i was thinking " are you serious"
@Anthonyplaybass I want to die winning against unwinnable odds, and then walking away without a scratch. And then making out with my wife. And then NEVER DYING EVER.
@KAsnuja It is fitting, just not obviously so. It's chilling, ironic and melancholy, giving a sense of hopelessness given the situation and what is inevitably to come. It works in a similar way to Fly Me To The Moon.
They move SO SLOW compared to Rebuild 2.22!!!! Mari and the Rebuild Eva-02 would have shredded these clowns in seconds. Unless she used ZA BEASTO. Then it would take miliseconds.
@dagdamor1 ...yeah, pity in Rebuild they got rid of the interesting parts of the story and characters and reduced it from genre changing to way way way blander.
This song represents either love (that's why it's used in weddings) or death (and sometimes used in funerals). So it's fitting that it's used in this sequence. A part of the series where love and death circle the characters.
I think it's absolutely appropriate. The guy from "A Clockwork Orange" got his rocks off to Beethoven and didn't Hannibal Lector also have a thing for Bach? Or "Schindler's List", Nazis killing people, also to the tune of Bach.
"I always loved her" is a merciful lie, look at her face at the end, she shows a sort of smile full of sadness, couse he's telling her a meciful lie and she's beaten, its the end for her. In this scene I realize how good Ritsuko's character is.
Well, Ritsuko was very naive at first about Gendo and his relationship with her mother, but that's until chapter 23, when she realise that he used her and her mother and destroys all the Reis crying. Then she says something like "I'm stupid just like my mother". If this scene were before that chapter you'd maybe right, but in here she is very aware of the true and reality of things and she's willing to destroy Gendo's plan in revenge.
Maybe we won't agree but I like to discuss this things :)
I think the opposite. I think it was "I never loved her" which would make Casper's decision to not agree with the self-destruct ironic. The way Ritsuko says "you liar", at least in the original japanese, seems very painful and forced to me, almost as if she were saying it in the same way as one would say "you bastard".
Maybe the expression of her face says something, but I don't think she would replied "you liar" to "I never loved her". I have the movie in spanish translation, and apparently they didn't want to hide Gendo's line. Ristuko says: "Mother, you betray your dauther for the man that never loved you?!" and then he says "Ritsuko Akagi, listen carefully... I always loved her" ...but in spanish of corse :p
Well, in the original Japanese, the line was muted. According to official material, it was to be obscured by the sound of an explosion, but they cut out the explosion, yet still wanted the line unheard. Anno told Ritsuko's seiyuu what the line was (so she could react properly) but it was never revealed to anyone else. If they added in a line for the Spanish version, it's pure fiction, because nobody knows what it is, except two people, who kept their mouth shut!
I know, I've read that in wikipedia and I enjoy japanese original more. But I'm saying that "I always love her" makes perfect sense, Caspar choose Gendo and not Ritsuko, who had an affair with him (just like her mother) and know that he was just using her (just like her mother) and wasn't able to forget Yui. That's why she already knows that he never loved her mother, she says "liar" when he says he did. I hope I make myself clear, english is not my first language, forget me if there's mistakes.
Well, that may be so, but in Evangelion, which makes a point to torture everyone as much as possible, I think it should be the reverse. That Ritsuko, who is technically brilliant but clueless with relationships thought that Gendo really did love her, and her mother before her. In that context, Gendo wouldn't confirm that incorrect notion, he'd destroy it. Like: "Nope, you're wrong, I never loved her, hahaha!" *bang*
The Air was originally in, but it's old version from mid-90's and Air was a little too silent, so I downloaded the OST and put Air on original clip matching it with that on clip.
Shortly: It's the same music, but renewed in clip.
I'm kind of excited to see it on the rebuild of evangelion. Just saw You are (not) alone today, it moved forward through the first episodes a little too fast, but the last images were all worth it, very nice done.
Only hope this scene gets brushed up a little and not changed too much. Come summer, we'll see.
also, did you put the music-piece over the film, or it this the original version? I seem to remember there being no sound-score when the famous "unspoken line" is said, maybe it's just me.
Thanks for putting this up here, I've got a few friends who needs to watch this ^___^
love the serie and the movie ... and this is one of the greatest moments! arrangement of sound and picture are wonderful! love also the scream of asuka at the beginning ... sounds really great!

Why? I think it's ideal for bigger masacre just like "Moon Sonate" or "Ave Maria" XD

Exactly. It's the type of song that is either peaceful or happy and that makes it magnificent to serve as a counterpoint to horrible violence.
