  • light years ahead..... beautiful song...

  • Wow! How fast has the last 32 years passed..... I'd just began training as a Royal Marine Commando the month this came out; so, I missed the video. Thanks for uploading!

  • Something about the way this is sung "Don't you know?" reminds me so much of early Paul McCartney! <3

  • When we met, my fiancee had never really expressed her anger a lot. I changed that. When she smashed my vinyl Joe Jackson album, I was proud of myself for being the catalyst but pissed that my album was busted. She confessed that she had never liked JJ too, though. ;-)

  • You're telling me, it sure is different.

  • @MrJohnnyhercules Yeh , i was thinking the same thing. So many of JJ hits are bass line masterpieces..Fools in Love, Steppin Out, Everything Gives U Cancer, and this one just to name a few are all really phenomenal bass hooks.

  • @martin84125 That is due to the incomparable Graham Maby!

  • I think the bass at the end is stupendous :)

  • Great!!!

  • Christ this song gives me such nostalgia, brilliant.

  • 14 people were obviously never in love as teenagers....

  • What vocals..Simply put..SIMPLY BRILLIANT

  • The only pop star that ever lived in my little village, built a Spanish type villa behind my local pub,

  • I have all Joe's albums on vinyl, cd, on my phone, on my computer, on my MP3 and on my Xbox.... Can't get enough of this man and his music, AND he's from my hometown!! Ladies and gentlemen, the legend that is Joe Jackson!!! :o)

  • Great song.

  • Another very insightful song by Jackson. If he had never recorded anything but this and 'Real Men', he would have made a real contribution to pop culture.

  • i miss the 80s i really do

  • @393cj yv no idea. Oh for another chance

  • This song is unbearably heartbreaking.

  • Just like XTC, Joe Jackson were the best song smiths of this era by far!! Fuckin magic music!!

  • I love this song.....

  • A stupid amount of beer couldn't take me away from this songs great bass...... awesome...... thanks for the upload

  • @Barmykipper , nicked it from Ace, how Long.

  • God I love this song, a babysitter had it on vinyl single when I was about 10 yrs-old and I always wanted it played

  • it's different for girls

  • Audio is real bad, you could fix that! Love the song!

  • @riellehunter You bastard, I saw this was a month old. Getting my hopes up like that.

  • Terrific - well worth keeping it going to the very end of the track. Superb outro.

  • joe jackson very underated in some quaters but his song writing is 2nd to none listen to his look sharp lp

  • name that tune in two ....bob ...love.love.love

  • I grew up with this song... Great...Ric.

  • what a fantastic song, reminds me of growing up in old u.k !

  • oh yeah defo shy man but his shyness is hidden when writing misic

  • this tune is like soul cocaine... very hard to get out of yer head- love it

  • t0mme1981 - You really have no clue about music - Matt Cardle better than Joe Jackson - please can I have a pint of whatever you're on, oh on second thoughts scrap that I don't wanna be as stupid as you!!!!

  • I've long admired Joe Jackson & his band...memories of living in the U.K. People have remarked about how distant or uncomfortable with his fans he is....well, you can't be all things to all people. Miles Davis hated his fans so badly he would not turn around to the audience frontally MANY TIMES. He forgot who helped make him famous. Joe's was more out of personal shyness.

  • Joe's connection with Elvis Costello really comes through here...

  • @t0mme1981 really not sure where the fuckety-witchie-poo crunked up shit place you are talking from? Grow a pair of aural receptacles because your sadness quite upsets me. Good luck for the future tho'.

  • so he's not micheal jackson's dad??

  • Brilliant satinman, thx for uploading, I`ll have a drink for you next time I`m out.........

  • Oh, ok. I saw a really funny video about begging Joe coming back to live in New York. I cant remember where I found it but it's really cute. Anyhoo, Thanks for the info I love Joe and saw him 6 times and he was just brilliant. He is in my top 5 all time favorite singer/songwritter etc. His music has always been special to me and whenever I wouold meet someone who knew his music and loved it I knew they were a kindred spirit

  • Thought he lives in Berlin?

  • @PleaseFixUrPets181 He does but I remember reading somewhere that he owns a home in Portsmouth, UK and a place in NYC.

  • why the 'falnge" eefffect;;;argh

  • Loved and followed Joe Jackson since the eighties . No one else like him never will be.

  • hes now in old portsmouth

  • Brilliant to hear and see. What charisma and genius Joe Jackson has.

  • Joe jackson, great singer...

  • Saw him in the Fall of 1979 on the I'm the Man tour. It was a scene, man!

  • I love Joe's tunes he's an excellent composer and always has kick-ass players behind him.

  • Joe Jackson knew what new wave was all about!! He was smart, he left before the record companies labeled everybody that and drove it into the ground.

  • It's different for Joe Jackson fans.

  • @bethstrass1 yes ...it is....

  • She fucking said!

  • Classic.

  • Thanks for uploading this. Forgot how much I loved Joe Jackson's music and this was one of my faves! Gracias!

  • There are very few truly perfect pop songs created in the last sixty years. Buddy Holly's Well... All Right is one. And Waterloo Sunset is another. So's Ticket To Ride. And so's this. A masterpiece.

  • I'm hearing a lot of Weezer in this.

  • I bought this song when I was nine years old sometime at the end of 1979, it seems a long time ago now! The 7" single came in a black, orange logo I think A & M sleeve.

  • I cant remember the nineties thank god. this takes me back to bein a spotty teenager in the eighties. good to see it wasnt all poseurs full of make up. there was some class. his album tracks are even better.

  • joe jackson is 1 poet i wont let go

  • I grew up hearing Joe Jackson's music. Just realising what a class songwriter he is.

  • Joe has always been capable of crystalizing emotions into song. A skill I stand in awe of. Always poignant and sensitive but with balls.

  • Pure genius. This guy was/is so under-rates...

  • Everyone on here is all the same, maybe not girls but we are all the same, dont tell me something I know, Tell me someting I don't know and I will appreciate you more

  • I like this song but it reminds me when I was 19 and my girlfriend pulled the lp from my collection and played this song.

  • Yeah, the rot set in at the end of the 80's when pete waterman and his pals started pushing out fromage pop. cheap and cheesey. its never been the same since in the UK.

  • I just love this song, the lyrics, the melody, the mood of the song, everything one of the few classic songs from that era!

  • forgot about how good this song was (;

  • great tune

  • Different Class

  • My neighbor is cranking this tune right now (12:30am)!

  • yes Joe "It's Different for Girls".....happy birthday

  • Joe deserves our bows of respect for writing a gorgeous song about the angst of lovemaking from a girls point of view said as raw as we feel it. Including some surprising, interesting things his mom said to him about saving, and balancing himself. He's an original. Don't think anyone's done exactly this before...or since

  • @SuzeyTrump SOOOO TRUE.....

  • @SuzeyTrump It's not from a girl's point of view. Joe (as the guy in the story) is retelling what she said, verbatim.

  • One of my favorite songs. Thanks for uploading this!

  • PURE QUALITY. !!!

  • I remember shagging to this.

  • Look real singing! yay Joe!

  • an underated musical genius

  • This album came out just a month before I turned 15 - I had already memorized "Look Sharp" and listened to it so many times I think I wore the grooves out. This song in particular was one of my favorites in my teenage angst.

  • @imyourfuturewife your an idiot

  • @imyourfuturewife Funny!

  • @imyourfuturewife You're a comedian!

  • @imyourfuturewife Are you really that ignorant or is this just a wind-up?? There is definitely more than one Joe Jackson in the world and this one has nothing to do with Michael Jackson and his family.

  • @imyourfuturewife you are a nut!
