  • MARAVILHA, PARABÉNS

  • He's not Latin. He's from Scotland

  • muito bom

    parabéns

  • Comment removed

  • What's the deal with the rhythm in the "accompaiiment"? No syncopated rhythm?

  • @sekkt2 indeed:( no latin feel at all!

  • He missed the feeling of it =/

    Nicely played, though, technically speaking.

  • @bl4st3r

    what are you talking about

  • @andthemushroom He's playing it like you play a classical song, and it's a popular song... It wasn't meant to be played delicately and mathematically distribuited... It's "choro", one of the origins of "samba", gotta have some wamth in it, not that mechanical playing that classical guitarists have.

Look for Dillermando Reis playing this same piece and listen to a true master in this style!

  • Gorgeous! Maravilhoso!

    Obrigada.

  • 12 parents should have used a condom

  • @TributesToYngwie Including yours?

  • watch this one , it's no like David Rusell's playing but it's not bad at all , playing by my father youtube.com/watch?v=zrd3qFDOfrA

  • THIS IS HOW YOU KNOW IM GAY

  • amazing :D

  • one of my favorite tunes...very relaxing(easy too) to play..and fun :)

  • He's playing too fast, it should be slower.... just search for Barbosa Lima

  • Excellent version, although I prefer this one:

    /watch?v=q66aMuYELE4

    Enjoy.

  • No doubt this guy is amazing. However,I personally prefer the version by Graham Devine on the Naxos album "Guitar music from Brazil".

  • poem: modus operandi anti held in flesh and blood, of universal forces, much the same breath, a hamlet on and off in the creative circle, behind the glass beads, sky, a sky the dreams of a mystery, machine buttons made of heads and tails, ecstasy molecules Chains heroic tales, apparently a past life, the set of trust and peace, size - shapes and colors of all kind, including a temple, a frozen seed from black onyx, the self-supported peace.

  • I fell that something is missing on their interpretation, but no doubt he´s one of the best players.

  • IT IS DAMMANN DOUBLE TOP GERMAN GUITAR...AT LEAST AT 45K

  • Beautifully played!

  • im your fan!you play guitar very well!!!you are the best!!!!!!!

  • nice clip..was looking for the transcription but this is better-nice up close shots and good audio-was able to learn it right here in 15 minutes. He's a pretty good player.

  • A classic youtube comment, I love it!

David Russell, perhaps the greatest classical guitarist of the last twenty years, is a pretty good player...

  • oh my that's good

  • his reading of the song is perfect. in fact, too perfect: he reads the notes millimetrically, and that's actually bad, because he lacks some of the "choro" feeling in the song.. you know, samba-ish sort of thing, especially in the sixteenth-notes.. and that's what's the song is all about, you know. nevertheless he is a very good guitarrist.

  • @rsinatra

or maybe i'm being silly, or too harsh.. it's not reaaaally choro anyway.. so.... but yes!

  • please somone reply... im dont know where i can get classical guitar sheet music anywhere

  • @BlindedinChains444

I finally found this on amazon by chanterelle number 761.

    good luck!

  • nice !!!

Bravo!

  • Que hermosa interpretación. un gran maestro

  • Baucoup trop vite voyons!

  • nice

  • Legal...

  • podinha

  • Rodolfomilenium could u please send me the sheets? I would love it..and seriously appreciate it..cant find it anywhere on the internet. ):

  • @benjaminnorregard @Rodolfomilenium Try delcamp.net for download of sheet music or go to delcamp's site on youtube

  • David russel sabe tocar violao

  • Beautiful sound, beautiful piece, I love David Russel's interpretations. He is truly a great guitar player.

  • WAY TOO FAST...!

just because you can , doesnt mean you should.

slow down a little bit and enjoy the piece.

  • @hazihazil agreed.

  • @hazihazil no thats the pace the piece is meant to be. I'm only 14 but playing this piece slowly is actually very annoying and means it drags on just a bit too long.

  • very nice tempo 5 stars

  • la sto studiando adesso...

  • João Pernambuco, brazilian composer.

  • Thank you, from younger students!

Much Regards from Czech Republic send Eva

  • who is the composer?

  • Heitor Villa-Lobos, a brazilian composer.

  • Sorry. I made a mistake. The composer is João Pernambuco not Villa-Lobos.

  • @oterrivelivan, and he is a brazilian composer too... of Pernambuco.

  • show de bola, cinco estrelas...

  • jajajajajaj cierto

  • I just saw him playing in Dublin this evening. He finished his set with Torrre Bermeja and everyone stood up and clapped him off stage. Hes brilliant!

  • Excellent!

  • such a beautiful piece. fun to play, too.

  • guitarrist from the brazilians streets do this with a natural feeling ,

  • Yes, everytime i play this notes(like David Russell).

  • I like his playing in 07., then he plays la fa# re si la fa# re...

  • OMG! You actually use the real names of the notes!

  • the notes started out as c e f g a b, it was that later they acquired those names do re mi fa sol la si do. most spanish speaking countries use the later.

  • Portuguese and Spanish people , just use the later , like you say .

  • David Russell won the Segovia competition, Ramirez competition, Tarrega Competition, Bream Competition, Grammy and others and received contracts to record pieces to include those written outside of U.K. No guitarist, dead or alive, is better, maybe there are equals. If he interprets this piece this way, he is more than qualified to do so. In fact, a lot more qualified than those who do not think so. Show me what you have to convince me otherwise.

  • Otário, this is not a samba, this is not a maxixe, this is a CHORO or CHORINHO.

  • stupid this is not a samba, this is a maxixe.

  • Russell plays this a little too good to be sylistically appropriate

  • hahaha... let's invite him to a "roda de choro" in some brazilian bar, he can have some snacks/beer and loose the tie... it'll sound different!

  • HE PLAYS THIS WRONG? thats not how you play the samba. that how it sounds when englishmen play latinamerican music... yeah david russell is on of the best i think but i hate to listen to his latinamerican interpretations

  • david russell's not american

  • It's ironic that he won a grammy for his latin american interpretations then. I wonder who knows more about this, you or a select jury made of excellent musicians, and by the way...he's scottish, not english!

  • are you brazilian?

  • LMAO!! I suppose you're one of these gits who thinks you must be Brazilian to play Brazilian music, or English to play English music etc... get over it for god sake! and also get your facts right...this piece IS INCLUDED IN THE ALBUM WHICH HE WON THE GRAMMY! IDIOTA!

  • and yes he did idiots... but not for this piece didnt he? he won with rebolico, xodo da baiana etc... idiota... pesquisa

  • An excellent point.

  • It sounds different when a simple piece is being played by an artist.

  • He has full and complete control over his hands. I wish I could steal his hands right now lol.

  • does anybody know the make of this guitar? it is magnificent..what a combination. that guitar and Mr.Russell..wow!

  • Matthias Damman. Amazing instruments befitting such a brilliant musician.

Excepcional.

  • i have played this song myself for about 1 1/2 year ago and it is really fun to play :D

  • annen varsa bi çakimda a.q

  • david russel t amoooooooooooooooooo

    by uno-piu-figo-di-te@hotmail

  • I wish you could get this entire concert on DVD. David Russell is one of the best!

  • I was fortunate enough to study with Russell. He is incredible! I've worked with the Romero's, Kannengeiser,Verdery and others. You could say David is as good as anyone and you would get no argument from me.

  • Excuse me but all the performers that you mentioned although very fine guitarist are not comparable to David Russell. Maestro Russell is perhaps the most important figure of the classical guitar in the 20th century after Segovia, Williams and Bream, and this position is shared with players like Barrueco and Brouwer (guitarist and composer)

  • rankings and mmusic dont mix - i guess u left yepes , yamashiota and so many others out ...

  • very good !

  • wow

  • Fantastic player.

  • Wow, perfect technique,,I have been playing for ten years,,,im far from being that good

  • Hats off gentlemen!

  • nice hand !

  • 1st Class for this guy. The best in America.

  • He's not American, he is Scottish and lives in Vijo, Spain. :)

  • For sure one of the very best

  • the best!!!!
