Having a private sector doesn't a nation isn't socialist. (look up Keynesian economics).
Sweden is a very socialist, they have private sector. France is very socialist. Post-war Britain was probably the most successful example (NHS, British Rail etc) until Thatcher came and ruined it.
I think you might be confusing socialism and communism. Communism is a form of socialism but socialism isn't always communism.
Just like an Apple is a form of fruit but not all fruit is not an apple.
