Here in ROTORUA New Zealand flocks of Starlings roost in the trees in town in winter, and circle overhead in their thousands. They are as common here as House Sparrows and useful for eating garden pests.

I'm envious of your Spring. We've just recently had the snow melt & I look in vain for a bud to show. Lucky you are in Ireland to have the Jet Stream throw you some mild weather. Here in NYC, though we're in the same latitude as Rome,you'd never know it; we're just thawing out, slightly.

I think beginning of this week was the last time to fight snow and ice in front of my house for this winter. I is nice to hear the birds singing everywere an seeing that they start preparing their nests.

It always amazes me how little they eat during the winter months .
