It doesn't say anywhere in the Bible that condom use is sinful. Song of Solomon is a book largely about sex for pleasure. When people have personal sentiments and then use their priestly pulpits to throw them around from, that is whats wrong. The Vatican has very little to do with Jesus and so, it is a functional organisation of uselessness.
What about using the term "creative power" instead of God; do you think that makes any difference to people? After all we tend to have a picture or ideal in our mind when thinking of or discussing God
JFlower, you can't have evidence for or disprove the non-existance of something. It is enough to say that you don't see it anywhere you look. It is a believer's responsibility to show evidence for his existance. I have no evidence that there are no invisible pink dragons living in my attic, but I can assume they aren't there because they've never been seen. Just because your brain is capable of imagining a diety doesn't make him real.

He has no evidence that there is no God. To say that he is going to address the "problem" of belief is extremely condescending. Then he tries to cover up this arrogance by saying that he is just going to "worry out loud". Give me a break.
An atheist would say, 'I don't believe God exists'; an agnostic would say, 'I don't know whether or not God exists'; and an ignostic would say, 'I don't know what you mean when you say, "God exists" '. A coherent definition of "God" must be presented before the question of the existence of "God" can be meaningfully discussed

Endlessly fatiguing talk, I feel my brain cells dying one by one while listening to this. I personally hold nothing of religions (any of them) but even as an outsider I can see that this guy is totally missing his target. He has no inkling what religion is about. Anyway, he is young and there is still a good chance that one day he will understand something of it.
Narwal, you seem to be a reasonable guy, I don't understand why do you have to call me names. Do you feel better by this? Have you promoted the right cause any inch further by calling me an imbecile?
Lubbercus, I've totally forgotten why I called you an imbecile. But judging by the fact that you removed your own comments, it seems to me that you would agree.
He's right, there is "an over-arching taboo around criticizing religious faith" just as there is an equal over-arching taboo around criticizing peoples sexual practices (my proof? witness the double digit thumbs down -->) because the Catholic missionaries teach abstinence BECAUSE they believe condom use is interfering with god's will; and with abstinence there would be NO sexual spread of aids.
Richard Dawkins, Sam Harris and Daniel Dennett, the "three atheist amigos". Harris and all atheists are cultists- they approach reality without using reason or rationality - the presume that human already know all of reality when in fact, there is more to know. So, they have closed their minds to the possibility of knowing more of reality which includes a "creator" or some sort. They are very fundamentalist in their thinking.
psychowabbit...I don't know about that! Sam Harris is the most eloquent of the 4 but i've watched every Dawkins video and HItchens video and Dawkins is not only the pioneer, he laid the groundwork, he was the giant that Harris stood on the shoulders of! I just have so much respect for Dawkins...on a side note...in that 4 horsemen video...what was with Hitchens saying he doesn't wish for religion to be abolished!?? Even Dawkins was baffled! Hitchens said he likes to debate and because of that???
I really like the points Sam makes on spirituality and just how he makes his points. but yes I love listening to Richard too and chris...dan kinda bores me at times, but he's still a great man to have on our side. And yeah I don't get Christopher not wanting religion to go away, maybe he had one too many Scotches by the end of the talk :P

I'm an agnostic atheist. I don't believe in a god, but the ultimate veracity of my belief I don't believe can ever be known.

Bravo! This is the primary reason Religion-not God- has done nothing for the African-American communities across the country.

(quote) The amount of faith required is equal to the lack of evidence.
I completely destroy every religious debate I get in with this one quote. Everything stems from their faith. This pulls the weed out by the root.
I hope that everyone takes full advantage of this quote. It truly is a wonderful tool.
