@Ozzrya91 like I said it doesnt matter how much weight you can put on your back to do push ups for reps. It also doesnt matter how many "regular" push ups you can do. I know this one guy who can do 200 push ups and not a single planche pushup because you only support 60%-70% of your bodyweight at any given time. With planche, you also support your legs at the same time.
If you don't believe me, lay on your stomach, put your hands at your hips and press to a pushup with your feet off the ground
Why would you even start weighted pushups when you cant even support a 100% body weight pushup or planche pushups. When you do a regular push up, you only support 65% of your body weight.
If you can do multiple perfect/full planche pushups you can EASILY do a double body weight pushup, but if you can only do a double body weight push up, you WILL struggle with a full planche push up. Something to do about stabilizers in shoulders.
It's so much easier to do weighted pushups by putting 10kg plates in a ruck sack. I've been doing them like that for about a year.
It's better if you purchase a very small bag that can just about fit the diameter of a 10kg plate in so that you can have it laying on your mid back rather than sagging onto your lower back. If the bag doesn't have enough padding to stop any soft tissue injuries just pad the bag with towels.
@negf03 Do you actually bench? I'd be interested in seeing what you can push. I can do 5 reps with 32.5kg on my back doing pushups on push up bars but I cannot even unrack 60kg on bench press.
I wish more trainers were like you and performed the weighted push up. Maybe I'm ignorant but I'm amazed that even knowledgeable trainers that I admire and respect still program the bench when a far more functional movement is available!
@RXP91 I actually haven't benched in over a year, so I honestly have no idea what I could push! I have been curious lately, though. I agree that more trainers should move towards weighted and stability challenged pushups, and reserve the bench press for when it's necessary (such as for competitive powerlifters).
@NewGameReleases: Performing proper pushups with load does not mean I can kick anyone's ass! It just means that I take pride in developing the strength, power and movement quality of my body. By making a comment such as yours, you may discourage women from real strength training, which is the very mentality we are trying hard to combat. We should encourage women to be strong without the fear of becoming a "turnoff". You can be strong and feminine, and a lot of men consider that attractive.
And there's nothing wrong with strength training for women. It's also very healthy. My girlfriend (20) started with a combination of strength training and Power yoga a few months ago, and i must say she has a sixpack to die for right now. Much sexyer then a load of fat!
@negf03 I agree. Many people don't seem to understand that training in an individual is important. It's too bad that society's complexion has been marred by the prejudiced and misconceived thoughts of fools. Strength is a powerful tool in an individual and it's not limited to males alone. I think you should continue along this path and don't let those ignorant people weigh down your progress. Attractiveness is a matter of taste, so you'll always find someone who likes a strong woman.
@negf03 I don't think having in mind what the opposite sex desires is really good for strength training. Strength training is a hobby, you should do it if you enjoy it! And Gina Carano is proof you can be one of the best (female) fighters on the planet but still be a sex symbol!
@hud01 Simply explaining to RXP91 that the fighter Gino Carano is not proof for women to be fit and sexy when she herself has fake boobs because of her low body fat it's worth mentioning for any other women that want to go below 15% body fat no harm was meant by the comment.
Women are so weak. A disgrace in the weight room among men.
