  • i hate that this is all "arty" stills rather than allowing the viewers the ability to see the players playing instruments.

  • I just uploaded a radio session from mick karn and band doing this track and others. There's an interview between the songs too....check it out. search: Mick Karn Session Interview.

  • One of my favourite songs, so funky and quirky, played by such talented musicians, thank you so much for posting.....Jansen Barbieri Karn.....lifting me to another level!

  • So incredibly good.

    Thanks for the upload!

  • Mick Karn... I miss you so.

RIP... and thanks for many great memories and even greater music.

  • GREAT musicians, great performance. Thanks for posting.

  • This is such a brilliant performance by JBK. They don't try to look cool, but everyone watching this knows that their 'cool' is effortless. Love Steve Jansen's expression at 1:16 (maybe he missed a beat?). It still amazes me that these three unique talents (Jansen, Barbieri, Karn) all came from the same band. Steve Wilson, of course, is a master.

  • @lkcgartist The Steve Jansen expression is just cos he has a problem with a twitchy face. If you see other performances and interviews you will see its just what he does. He has a nervous tick/ grimace/ guerning thing which happens occassionally- Hilarious!! >;D

  • tops.

  • Mick Karn... Thank you for making my childhood bearable. When life got too heavy I retreated to my room and forgot my problems by listening to you and Japan. "Thank you.."

  • @mintwithahole tear jerkingly honest and touching - just like Mick. This needs to be the No1 comment!

  • @mintwithahole - I hear you and agree, thanks Mick Karn and Japan.

  • I've been lovin' you and I'll be missin' you, Mick. Good bye.

  • 安らかに。

  • RIP MICK KARN...

  • Wow

  • Amazing performance!

  • Ahhh! My favorite drummer and bass player!!

  • Mick Karn has been diagnosed with stage 4 cancer.

Please go to his website mickkarn.net to make a donation towards his medical treatment!

  • Thanks for a most valuable item. Let's hope Mick can resist his decease. There's too much talent to be lost so soon.

  • It sounds like modern classical music.

  • who's on guitar?

  • @podgson

It's Steven Wilson, known from Porcupine Tree, along with Richard Barbieri, organ

  • mick looks like he is either going to stab you or screw you in this vid. must be lead writer's syndrome.

  • Wonderful stuff. Thanks so much for posting it! <3

  • And 12 years later Steve Jansen is STILL übercute... sigh... I've seen him live a couple of times but never from this close. Thanks for posting this!

  • Thanks for sticking this up, I caught JBK live in London around 97ish. They had Steve Wilson on stage too, I didnt know who he was at the time but he played some blistering solos, and I guess I musta heard this track but can't remember much detail of the night. Lush to rediscover it.

  • i have always loved this keyboard player....he rocked in J apan too.

  • Super, super, beyond super... Wowee zipee zowie!!!!! :-) Thanks so much! I was the Secrets of the Beehive tour and Mick in Polytown. This is the closest video I can get to Polytown. (Okay, I know only Mick was in Polytown here.) There is nothing on here of Polytown. Crazy. I mentioned to Mick at the Polytown concert that I loved this album. So that is my personal relation. :-) Thanks so much for this!

  • Nobody, and I mean nobody plays the drums like Steve Jansen.

  • astonishing feel, perfect timing, intelligent playing.... and the hijo de p**a looks dead cool!

  • Positively, fucking stunning musicianship!!!!! It's good to see JBK kicking it without Mr. Sylvian. Though it would be sweet to see him back in the fold.

  • wow!!!

  • Thanks for posting! I've always loved the groove in that song!

  • mick karn and steven wilson ...porcupine et No-man petits fréres de japan ...le cycle de la vie ... heureusement.

  • now for sylvian, love a reunion

  • Great sounds,but.....needs a

    charismatic frontman like.....Sylvian'79./

  • My God, Mick Karn makes me anxious to play my Bass! INSPIRATION!

  • the perfect band !!! it seems so easy to play music when you see themm !!!

  • Amazing. It teems and simmers with more vibrancy and warmth than the original recording, which was phenomenal. Simply beautiful.

  • thanks for this, any chance to see Mick play is brilliant

  • Please can you cantact on jbkseed hotmail

  • This is really amazing excelent¡¡¡¡

  • EXCELLENT THANKS FOR POSTING IT!

  • JBK rock!

  • Gosh, it´s Steven Wilson (Porcupine Tree) on guitar! What a gathering of great musicians!!! And I love that track in particular!

I had the chance to (accidentally!) see Karn, Jansen, Barbieri and Robby Aceto accompany Alice (yes, THE italian singer!) on her tour in ... must have been April 1996. Brilliant!

  • I saw Alice in Parma that year: it was the occasion to talk to Mick, very pleasant person. He was such surprised to find a Japan "fan" in Italy - that he went to call Steve to introduce him to me.

Everyone was such concentrated in meeting Alice - pretty typically diva-acting: she would never show off again- that Mick and Steve were basically exclusively available for me.

Also, there wasn't Richard Barbieri on keyboard,

Alice usually plays them herself.influenced and never published so far.

  • Awesome clip. Thanks for posting.

  • I try to imagine how the Japan's songs could sound like on stage now

  • jbk performed 'life without buildings' around the time that this was filmed and sylvian has perfomed 'ghosts', 'nightporter' and 'the other sign of life' on recent tours. i think it's safe to say that japan will NEVER reform so we can only wonder. really sad but what can you do. thanks to everyone for your comments.

  • This is really amazing excelent¡¡¡¡

  • Does anyone know why Sylvian is such a recluse? and WHERE is he being a recluse?? ,like what country?

  • He lives in New England USA.

I'm off to see him in concert at Manchester's, Bridgewater Hall tonight. Can't wait!

    (Great video).

  • I'm seeing him in Birmingham on Tuesday and can't wait either. I'm nearly 40 so shouldn't be so girly about gigs but I think I'm gonna burst. He hasn't played in Brum for 19 years. Enjoy the gig!

  • I'ts not girly to get excited to see a gig not at all! Enjoy!!

  • Fantastic. This is fusion.

  • Karn is Greatest bass player !!

  • nice really good one

  • Nice!

  • an amazing performance of an amazing song!

    great
