You can never compare Chernobyl with Fukushima, in Chernobyl we had a COMPLETE exposed core, burning for days, and sending large scale amount of radiation out....I still belive that Fukushima is a "minor" release compared to Chernobyl, its another type of reactor......but still to be taken VERY seriuse....
hmm fukashimas fall outs more spread out. and theirs not as much radation as cheronbly sent out. so what is the fallout with cheronbly didn't go far, it sent out MORE radiation. ok did fukashimas disaatery make a FUCKING city into the biggest ghost town knoewn to man? no it didn't!
@madpigz777 I wish your words are true and I wish someone can prove me wrong! I wish I can forget what I know and what I see but latest disturbing raise of radiation in food bougth in shops, there is not one but many, too many people recording this to be dissmissed or ignored! I am envious of your ignorance, sincere regards! enjoy your life!
@danmarino1970 LNT is an assumption based on extrapolation from the high does regime. It's not known or proved if radiation can cause cancer at background or near background levels. However, there's ample evidence the damage can be repaired, even DNA double-strand breaks e.g.
Löbrich et al., 2005. In vivo formation and repair of DNA double-strand breaks after computed tomography examinations. Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences of the United States of America 102(25), 8984 -8989.
@Diamonddavej why should we even go to the extent of repair? if nuclear is taken out of the picture.. then there will be nothing to worry about. The energy cartels and big oil have spent billions of dollars in pr campaigns to prop up the crediblity of petro.. nuclear and coal.. granted all provide jobs and help maintain what little of an economy we have left. However, alternative (which are in essence TRUE forms of energy) can not only provide good quality jobs but a new economy.
@SV438384 Agreed.. but you have to admit..it would be nice.. If people only knew that they had more power than they've thought.. the 1% who control the world wold be obliterated out of existence. Be well my friend.
@danmarino1970 :((( dear friend, this sheeple that surrounds us have all 3 brain cells busy thinking how are they going to please their bosses so I think we are doomed! I mean 8000 years of "recorded" history tells you allways one same thing; people like to gravel and kiss someones feet!
Proof would require a epidemiological study, but the predicted numbers of cancer at background levels are so low (1 in 10,000), that the effects of low level radiation cannot be observed.
The regulatory bodies that promote the Linear no-Threshold assumption, do so without any direct proof.
Not all nuclear agencies use LNT, the French don't (Académie nationale de Médecine), and several US professional bodies are highly critical of LNT e.g. Health Physics Society & The American Nuclear Society
@Diamonddavej The real numbers are not going to be published as well as the real levels of radiation! The measuring institutions are responsible only to military and we know who's the boss!
What does LNT stands for? was looking but found nothing that makes sense...
LNT assumes that no level of radiation is safe and risk is directly proportional to radiation dose. A 100 mSv dose causes a 0.7% increase in cancer (lowest level an effect is measured). Fukushima might add 0.3 mSv radiation in Japanese food, this likely will not cause any deaths.
Unlike Chernobyl, close monitoring will prevent radiation getting into food / water, out of people. In Chernobyl, they didn't evacuate and people drank contaminated milk.
Fukushima is screwed and all of us with it. First of all it is not the same type of radiation, Fukushima was a Mox-military-factory and for your info most of this Iodine 131 and other highly dangerous stuff is allready here in Europe so...it is very fruitless to compare Chernobil and Fukushima! Here in EU milk was forbidden to drink for couple of days until they have "fixed" allowed quantity of RA in food! :-)
@SV438384 Just one question, where do you get your info and what makes you trust it?
I think, with respect, people without a professional science background find it hard to tell what info is reliable. This is needed more than ever, the web is stuffed full of misinformation.
@Diamonddavej There are still some uncorrupted people left that work in many different specialisations all over the world so this is where I get my info. Look around you if you don't know such people, there is so many people with cancers, respiratory system illness, auto-imune conditions are sky-rocketing! Web is full of disinfo, that is true and is set there by the same ones that runs the show on telly! I really get my info from nuclear scientists!
@SV438384 I am reluctant to seek information from individuals ("experts"), from my experience some seem to enjoy notoriety & self-promotion to the expense of honesty & accuracy.
Rather, I first start with concrete science facts and laws that are not opinions, things I can find out for myself without a (biased or fallible) human in-between me & "truth". I then read peer reviewed journals and the scientific consensus, all the while sceptical of claims made. I draw my own opinions in the end.
Lastly, Society chooses trial by Jury because we know Judges can be biased, make mistakes and can end up corrupted by outside criminal influence. Whereas a Jury of 12 is less susceptible to these problems. That's why I prefer the consensus of a group and why I think it is very bad indeed to heed the opinion of an individual.
Look up the Committee Examining Radiation Risks from Internal Emitters (Chris Busby was on the "Jury").
@Diamonddavej I really understand what are you trying to say...and I got your dilema's...what can I tell you, just observe and you will see! I didn't wanted to see this that I do! I wish it is not true but sadly some things are true like chemtrails for example...I am full of metals and more and more of my friends that are being tested this very moment. Fact is we are lied to!
@Diamonddavej I partly agree with you. On the flip side it is also possible that the professionals could also be misinformed. Should be more people like yourself who can put there point across respectfully.
You think this is bad.. wait until solar maximum where scientist expect another Carrington event to occur (or worse).. We have how many unprotected nuclear facilities worldwide? Diesel backup cooling stations only have about 48hr of fuel to cool off the spent fuel rods. "Nuclear power is NOT the answer." - Dr. Helen Caldicott.
those elite fuckers are living with our taxes and in order to sue them we have to pay other extra tax for the court case. It is not a commedy anymore, it is a tragedy!
As an external emitter, plutonium-239 is fairly harmless because of the low penetration of the radiation. But when as little as one microgram is inhaled and reaches an internal organ, it becomes an internal emitter and cancer in that person is virtually assured. Now we are told that the cleanup of the Japanese reactors could take months or years. People should be up in arms over this very serious situation!
@randman1111 Yes ,you are right unfortunately, I know... when reactor goes in meltdown it takes at least a year to stabilise it with releasing of pressure from time to time together with all radioactive stuff in it. Meltdown comes from automatical shuting -down of a system and with this cooling of reactor. Once without regulating temperature all nuclear chain-reaction speeds-up so what we use as controled becames uncontroled...so simple is that!
@randman1111 I will be quite open to say that constant quakes in Japan are worrying...more reactors could come to the state of meltdown. One other thing worries me even more and this is our own stupidity not to think about it before hand...what shall I tell you...I mean, bunch of mad-scientists are creating a black hole (LHC) as we speak and ...what?...as you can see...nothing, no one's complaining!
@randman1111 I choose Franch map of radiation because of French mentality, bold and brutal !!!---and as you can see-correct! Allways was and allways will be mouth that I listen to...
Plutonium-239 can't be detected by geiger counters as it decays by emitting heavy alpha particles. It can only be detected in soil samples and has a half life of 24,000 years. Several recent tests of the soil suggest the area around the reactors is heavily contaminated out to 80 km or more. The fuel rods in reactor 3 have 40 years of aggregated plutonium, and it is freely leaking into the pacific ocean. Pouring sea water onto the rods creates a steam cloud that sends it into the atmosphere.

I read that the Japanese leak is much smaller than what happened at Chernobyl and the radioactive cloud is one million times weaker than Chernobyl's was. Thousands of people now own Geiger counters so the government and press could not possibly cover up a lethal cloud.
@astrophonix Yes and thank god for that! It's not that dangerous but still it's good to clean yourself from this doses of radiation even if they are not lethal. I mean so far so good but reactor 3 is smoking so lets keep the fingers crossed for Japanese people and us too.
I am in Alaska. My geiger counter only shows normal background readings and we were supposed to get hit really bad, so, take this "information" with a bucket of salt.
