@AdventPrime priming is good is good for many things, it helps paint stick better, smooths out areas were you have sanded/cut, and if you are painting 2 different colored peices the same color it will help them look the same after they are painted (spray paint is sometimes semi-transparent).
The same thing happened to me recently w/ the flat white paint where it comes out as a really rough texture and then cracks when it dries.
The primer I used was Valspar, and the can of Krylon Flat White was new. I don't think it's the primer but more of the new can itself I probably had to spray it in the air first just to clear the nozzle. I remember Jabman025 mentioning a similar problem where the spray paint just came out cloggy.
Hey man, thanks for the tutorials. I've just started to experiment with spray painting my Gundam models and your tutorial series have really helped me out.
I absolutely love this series of Let's Build Gundam. It's so informative and has helped me with my gundam kits so much. I'm new to gundam and this really helps with my fear of messing things up :3
I think I know what that person was talking about. When I was using the Krylon with the new nozzel I found that there was alot of dust building up on the parts that I was not painting, most likely from the excess spray dust.
HI vegeta, i was just wondering if the nozzle of the spay paint will effect the texture of the paint? cause im painting my kit right now and my krylon pepper red has a rough texture on my kit, i tried your method of painting and still the same result. is there anyway to fix this? thanks.

Also, when painting - it is helpful, when you start or stop the flow of paint, don't have the spray pointing at the part. Point the can away from the part, press the valve, move the spray across the part and point it away again, and then release. Spray cans and air brushes can get a bit of sputter when they start up.
The texture that the other modeler got was probably "orange peel" - usually a result of putting too much paint on at once.
I think it may be due to the odd nozzle some of the newer cans had, the one I got at walmart has a red swivel thing on the cap and it sucks bad they dont have normal caps atm so I got rustoleum on mine. think it may be a disfuctional part to the cap
@legodude3000 i know that its the one that sprays in a thin line sorta compared to a circle, the problem is it seemed to gunk up on me on that part again I think it may have been due to the part more then the cap by the time i removed it to clean the part to see if I could use it normally it was to thick in the normal cap :/
probly what it is and i have the same problem its when u use the grey primer if u dont shake the can this paint dust stuff will create a ruff texture but i like that effect on my zakus and ww2 tank kits
I too, sometimes get results like paint applying on the parts and they leave some sort of texture, and sometimes they even leave tiny strands of paint hanging off the parts. I guess it's not just a matter of spraying properly, but I get the feeling the paint isn't mixed well. Maybe I just didn't shake the can enough. I also heard that humidity can affect the way paint behaves as well. A nice sunny day is best for painting, I guess.
@vegeta8259 How would you rank krylon as a brand you can rely on for painting your models? I bought a some, and thier top coat for my MG MK-II ver2.0 but due to the humidity in my area I havent painted them yet.
@aeminence theres are vegets own words here that he posted on gundam eclipse Michaels/HobbyLobby: Testors, Model Master, Krylon (over-priced though...)
Homedepot: Rustoleum, Krylon
Walmart/Target: Testors, Rustoleum, Krylon
as for the top coats krylon is very awsome, ive only used the clear gloss so far and i love finish it leaves.
I get that same chalky finish on my Shibai Sazabi after painting too, using the same white paint you used. I think the problem was I painted it too far away and since it was so hot out, it dried before hitting the part and the wet paint that did hit it caused the dry paint to stick... but thats only a guess.
white paint is the bane of so many modellers. I saw a vid where a guy used fine white primer as a substitute for flat white. It works pretty good
LiamTheGreat 5 months ago
why would u wanna paint it when its already a real grade?????i mean ur not customising it anyways?XD

Is it necessary to prime the parts, then spray with the base coat?

@StrawHatLaw13 the humidity might have been to high.
Humidity can do weird things to paint.......

Hi vegeta8259
How do you stick the loose parts on the paper? Blu-tack? Is it because the crocodile clips is to big to clip on to those parts?
Great tute on spraying!
limubearproductions 1 year ago
@limubearproductions, that's actually masking tape. I like using it better because blu-tack degrades over time and looses it's stickyness...

@123asd1
that swivel thing is there purposely, it's even advertised on the can. You can simply pull it out though if you wish.

everything on the RG is a sticker. not a waterslide or a dry tansfer. bandai used the blue backing to confuse everyone
