  • Big LoL @ GDI behaviour. Did the forget to port the AI to the N64 version?

    Thx for uploading btw!

  • @kollegahsterin AI is 100% scripted, and in this mission, it's scripted so everything attacks at the moment you wipe out one side. The way they act is exactly the same as in the PC game, always hunting for the most northern enemy.

  • Can I get the link to this Rom?

  • @pastalcon001 First of all, Youtube comments don't allow links, secondly, um, google?

  • Wait...How is this possible?! I thought this mission wasn't on the N64 version of the game...

  • @Alex06CoSonic Reading the video description usually helps. The fact the visible part of that description, without even expanding it reads "Yes, I'm aware this mission isn't normally playable in C&C64. But I found out" should've been a clue, too.

  • @Byakuga100 what I used to get my harvesting going in this vid isn't really what I'd call 'strategy' :p

  • Is it me or is GDI really sleepy?

  • @JohnBigOz lol, If only. The "sleep" command for units exists ingame, and makes the enemies not do anything at all. These guys are vigilantly guarding the entrances, shooting at anything that comes into sight.

But I do agree, if I were GDI in this mission, I'd just rush in :p

  • @nyerguds you literally rode BY them and they didn't even flinch? well i haven't seen the wheole video but still. Oh yea, they do attack at the end it seems.

  • @JohnBigOzApparently you didn't read my whole comment, either. I said the game HAS a "sleep" command that does that to units. These units are NOT sleeping. They're guarding. But the tanks are not set on "area guard" but just on "guard", meaning you can't lure them away into your defenses. They only shoot at things that are in range.

The fact my Stealth Tank could pass them without any reaction is obviously because it's invisible.

  • @nyerguds oh, it's a Stank, oh i thought it was just a normal tank..... ahh that explains it.

  • @JohnBigOz yeah, stealth effect doesn't seem to work. It's probably the emulator's fault though.

  • The console C&C's were awesome but I prefer the PC's mouse and keyboard for better micromanagement XD

  • I thought Special Ops and Covert Ops are the same. Special Ops is N64-only and Covert Ops is (supposed to be) PC only, is that right?

  • @DonbeeFwz: Not quite... 'Special Ops' are the unique sets of missions added in the Playstation and Ninendo 64 versions. Each has its own unique set of extra missions. The PS version contains The Covert Ops too though, but it was hidden and needed to be unlocked with by typing the password COVERTOPS in the mission load screen.

With my research I uncovered that the N64 version contains ALL of them internally, though only its own 4 Special Ops are playable from the menus without hacking.

  • @nyerguds: Ah, thanks for that.

  • Wait, N64 got Tiberian Dawn with 3D graphics while PSone and PC got this old, 2D-ish graphics? :( I should've got myself N64 back in those days aswell. :(

  • @KingKjellboy Psh, honestly; the 2D graphics look better anyway. Just compare the N64 refinery or construction yard with the PC version.

  • lol at the screaming

  • I have a question, Since EA released CnC TD as freeware, is it legal to download the rom to play the 64 version? or is it still illegal?

ps: I know you may laugh at me for asking this question because no one cares but i do.

  • @TheOrentDevil Actually, that's a very good question. And I don't know the answer to it. The problem is that the ports to consoles were usually not done by Westwood itself (a company called Looking Glass Studios did C&C64), so there are other parties involved in the whole deal. Also, usually the console company itself (in this case, Nintendo) is also involved somehow.

Mind you, for me it's probably not a problem since I own the N64 cartridge :P

  • @nyerguds Yeah...I played the 64 version a long time ago, I sold the N64 with all the games i had on it including this one, I play the pc one now but mostly for scenario creation in CnCmap.

to bad i did not keep the N64 cartrage, and i will do some research.

  • 5:53 The harvester decides he wants in on the action!

  • @d01hazel Like all GDI units at that moment, it is hell-bent on killing that one guy that was the most northern unit when they received the "All to Hunt" command :p

  • die grafik ist grausam

    dann lieber auf ps1

  • I'm going to assume this is what Red Alert 2 Would've looked like if EA didn't rush them

  • @InstantMix I'm going to assume you mean with better graphics.

Though your point is kinda invalidated by the fact WW wasn't even involved in the creation of this port. It was done by a company called Looking Glass Studios.

  • @nyerguds Interesting , didn't know this. But yeah , better graphics of course , but still similar.

  • @nyerguds this mision doesn't exist in the n64 version

  • @MrJakys1234566 Read the video information. It DOES exist, it's just not in the mission lists. I edited the ROM to get to it.

  • C&C64 wasn't as great as the PC versions but it was still alright.

  • Yeah... graphics were kinda poor, but I liked the zoom function. And after linking the emulator controls to my mouse, it played pretty similar to the PC version :)

  • @nyerguds really? It did? You know, I always wondered about that. If I download the N64 game of this, am I able to use the mouse to control the cursor? If so, how do I do that?

  • Project64's N-Rage Plugin 2.0 supports mouse movements. I got a complete control scheme file on my site.

Go to nyerguds.arsaneus-design dotcom. You'll get a bare directory listing. The first item there is the folder "N64Project".

In there are 2 'cnc64mouse' files; the readme and the zipfile with the actual controls scheme.

  • sandbag strategy. lol. so far i haven't got any luck in this way. I can only win with "speedrun method"

  • Just today, I won it with the "demo truck method". It involves giving the bike's rocket weapon the nuclear explosion as firing animation.

Fun fact... just playing that nuke explosion animation somewhere actually makes stuff explode :D

  • when you had your army of minigunners firing it sounded like some snare drum battle song thingy from song war song.

  • and who says genrals the first 3d cac game

  • I actually like the look of the N64 version of this game. Everything is clean and attractively presented.

Keyboard and mouse means PC still owns overcourse

  • well, as I already said to the guy below about a month ago, I got the best of both worlds by linking my emulator controls to the mouse and keyboard :P

Though tbh, I think some of the models (like the refinery) are really too simple.

  • LOL @ 5:20

    Ouch.

  • Eh. I expected that. It happens after you destroy all vehicles on one of the 3 sides.

  • Man the 64 version was hard to play, I kept fumbling around with the fkn joystick.

Then again mine was completely loose after years of Mario Karting. lols

  • hehe. This is played on emulator, with all controls linked to my mouse :D

  • Can I get this game from somewhere :o

  • Find the ROM somewhere? It's not too hard. You can play them with the Project64 emulator

  • how the fuck do I do the edit for the rom, help here

  • with a hex editor? :P

  • i find the music from the nintendo version better when the Pc version can you record the and load then up please

    cool video

  • wayyy ahead of you. It's been uploaded ages ago :)

  • cool ^^

  • For anyone else interested in this, go to the First Decade section of the official EA C&C forum, and look for a thread called "Looking for "Trenches" theme from RA1 OST in High Quality".

It's probably not on the first page anymore though.

  • close to the original on the pc i know when you hit one of the gdi groups and all 3 will move in

  • No, it's exactly the same as the PC version... they only move in if you completely destroy one of the groups. So as I showed here, if you leave a few units of each group you can kill pretty much everything else, and only have the heavy tanks left to deal with when they finally rush in.

  • just did the level again i hit 1 tank and they all moved

  • Doubt that. I've played it a million times, and they never did that. Not unless you attack their harvester or something.

I just checked the mission programming, and it's telling me exactly the same thing I already said. They're grouped together in 3 teams, each having the property that only when all members of it are destroyed, all enemy units are given the Hunt command.

It's the same kind of programming that makes airstrikes appear only after all SAM sites on a map are destroyed.

  • Yes, I'm aware this mission isn't normally playable in C&C64. But I found out that pretty much all Covert Ops (and even the Playstation Special Ops) missions are in the ROM anyway. This is played on the Project64 emulator, with an edited ROM

    BINGO

  • I checked the programming of the ORIGINAL PC VERSION.

  • well fucked if i know how it happened but yeah i am not that stupid to hit the harvester

  • Well I'm just saying, if they didn't bother to give the mission a height map or fix the disappeared village, you can be pretty sure it's still exactly the same file as the PC version.

I could check that too, but extracting missions from the ROM is an annoyingly complicated process.

  • nice idea at the end oh in that version do they hit you with air strikes because they do in the PC version oh and i posted a vid respons to help our vids get more veiws

  • Yes, the mission is 100% the same except for the civilians that don't show up. I just distract the airstrike by placing a minigunner at the top right of my base. Around 2:39 , just before I launch the nuke, you can see some scorch marks in that corner.

Around 4:32 you can see me sending a minigunner up to that spot to replace the previous decoy that got burned.

  • I love that sand bag idea

  • lol, it's a lame trick. In fact, with some effort it's perfectly possible to kill everything at the right side except for the humvee at the top, so you got a clear path for your harvester to harvest at the south without triggering the big rush.

  • these graphics are better than the ps1

  • wel, they're real 3D... though I dunno, the pre-rendered PS and PC graphics are still nicer in my opinion.

  • why is it called obelisk gaurd tower?

  • You must mean "Obelisk GUARD tower". And it's called the same in the PC version.

Though I wondered about the same thing. That's why I changed it in my C&C95 v1.06 patch :)

  • Its in the shape of an Obelisk

  • no dude, it's the "guard tower" part we were wondering about. The manual calls it "Obelisk of Light", which sounds a lot cooler.

  • LMAO @ 2:56

  • Yeah, I should've zoomed in there so you'd see the explosion more from the side...

  • haha. i want to play this level again now. but i lost the game save... and the game...

  • Eh what? game save? This is a Covert Ops mission, so you don't need a savegame, and C&C itself is freeware, so you can just download it.

  • i was saying thati don't have the game anymore on this computer, but wow! i didnt know it's freeware now. thanks, now i'm gonna look into it.

  • there's a thread with the downloads in the First Decade section of the official EA C&C forums. e sure to install the unofficial 1.06a patch for C&C95 too.

  • lol at 5:20 . the gdi minigunner on the top for double beamed lol

  • The N64 version has the bug that charged obelisks don't automatically pick a new target to fire at if the one they charged for is destroyed though -_-

  • Comment removed

  • Oh man. i remember this mission, i struggled so much, because they kept closing in on me after i fired the nuke lol.

  • Eh. Theoretially, the only problem are the tanks. As long as you don't destroy absolutely everything at one single side they don't attack, so you just have to lure the rocket launchers, infantry and humvees in advance like I did here.

In fact, this mission is perfectly possible without that sandbag trick, if you just kill the most southern units at the east side so your harvester can pass unharmed.

  • Ah, never knew much about C&C's actual coding...

    Cool info.

  • That's just the coding of this specific mission... and while it would be very easy to do, I haven't actually looked at the mission file; I just know this from experience. The full-tech base setup makes this a great test map for my modding activities.

  • Ah...interesting...

  • Special side?

  • The game has these sides: Goodguy (GDI), Badguy (Nod), Neutral (civilians), Special, and the multiplayer players, Multi1 to Multi6 (C&C can have up to 6-player LAN).

"Special" was originally added for the hidden dinosaur missions (the dinos in these missions are owned by the Special side), but are commonly used in the Covert Ops missions as non-neutral civilians.

  • the graphic on this is better than redalert2

  • destroying the base with minigunners ;-)

but the map seem to be completly flat ?

  • Well see, these missions were added on the ROM, but never reworked like the originals, so they don't have height maps.

  • Oh, and these minigunners are just the result of selling my obelisks, some power plants and the repair bay I think. It was the quikest way to get an army ready :P

  • cooool
