  • Anyone know when this will be completed?

  • what would happen if the train did not stop it would go right though the glass and into car park and the airport building

  • @spg09phillipsl1 I think you answered your own question there mate. . .

  • did u know there r still building the new platform at Glasgow (11A)

  • I think this would be a great idea.

  • this should have been done years ago :)

  • The SNP cancelled this project, and now they are over budget and at a standstill with the Edinburgh trams. Come to the 2014 commomwealth games and try and get your luggage on the bus.

  • @martybhoy72 labour should win next year by far. we don't want an anti-glasgow, edinburgh only loving, stupid idea snp goverment again do we

  • I was so disappointed this got canned. I hate having to get the bus from Gilmour street because its a pain getting your luggage on the bus. I would vot for anyone who would get this built.

  • The project has started; the project will kick off with the Glasgow Central Station expansion to add 2 further platforms. One will be dedicated for the Glasgow airport link. After the Glasgow Central expansion works are complete the Paisley and Glasgow airport link will beging in the summer of 2010 but maybe pushed back to early 2011.

  • This has been talked about for years and nothing has ever come of it. Can't see it happening in my lifetime (I hope to live for at least another 30 years).

  • what a joke the scottish government are

  • I think it was a good idea. Stupid that they scrapped it if i'm honest. The new 380's would have been great on this line.

  • I hope they find money to reinstate this.

  • I saw adverts for this in Glasgow airport last year

  • Comment removed

  • R.I.P. GARL :(

  • Huge waste of money.

  • I love this lol!

The new 380's will take over this route.

  • Will be great. All the same I get nostalgic for the black and white Y type SMT coaches that ran from Anderston Cross in the 70s

  • An eyesore and White Elephant . This was decided before public consultation .

  • yeah do any of u think earl should of went ahead?

  • Edinburgh is too small a city to warrent an rail link. Glasgow International and PIK should merge into a single 11+ million annual passenger airport. Long term, it will be more useful for scotland for Glasgow to have a rail link.

  • No it will be 1st scotrail, some 3car 380's will run on other routes yes, and quite likely on the GARL with 4car units. But these will be used over 334s

  • Comment removed

  • Will the 334's be used on the Glasgow Airport rail link? Or will it be the new 380's? Also does anybody know when this service will be ready and avaliable?

  • I beleive that 4car class 380s will be used and the 334's used on other routes.

  • what about the 3 car will they be used on Ayrshire coast and Inverclyde then

  • It won't be SPT anymore when they build it

  • Aye maybe one day!

  • That's handy and is way quicker for the peole of Ayrshire as the A77, M77 and the M8 are always jammed at 8, 9 and 5 o'clock. I hardly se the train but Scotrail are quite a good rail company. Thier trains are rarely delayed and when they are they let you know over a tannoy

  • Yeah but their trains are horrible and in bad condition. I wouldnt want them to take this over

  • It wouldn't be a 334 like the demo, it would be a 380! You don't know wat tommorow's trains will be like, do you? :D

  • First Scotrail is well over priced and the service is rubbish

  • Was this a reply to my comment?

  • What a surprise. You say something stupid and are a celtic fan. Hm..?

  • nice! lol

  • i can imagine so many footballs being booted up onto that track, the kids there are paisley lmao they WILL do it

  • Pop! goes the footballs then

  • hope the plan happens

  • its a right shithole isn't it

  • i have to get a bus or taxi from my anteys house to glasgow internatinal to londomn LHR

  • See you at 02m40s in St James' Park to watch kids boot footballs onto the tracks, then.

  • I can't wait for this. Right now I take the 305 bus to the airport which isn't bad but it's terrible for getting your cases on and off unless you get on at buchanan bus station. I think glasgow is well overdue a rail link to the airport.

  • Does it matter if its over dead bodies? Theres football pitches there already?

  • Come on, it needs done and at last they're doin it. And stopping at paisley first will mean some of the hundreds of airport employee's that live in Paisley can get the train instead of taking their cars and helping to jam up the already congested Paisley streets.

  • Except they won't. Who in their right mind would use public transport, when they can use their own car? I can get from the south side of Paisley, to Glasgow airport in less than 15 mins by bar, during rush hour.

  • Its not just getting to the airport tho is it, its what to do with your car when you get there, parking is exotrtion, and if you are leaving town for days getting the train is a good option for many people, or people who can't get lifts etc

  • Even supposing you do want to use public transport to get to the airport. You can get on a train at Glasgow Central, ride it to Paisley Gilmour Street, then get either a taxi or a bus from Gilmour Street and take a 5 minute journey to the airport. GRAL would have been stopping at Gilmour Street anyway. The GRAL would only have linked the train lines in Paisley to the Airport and it wouldn't have taken any time off the journey.

  • @MrNobody808 they wanted to do it cause glasgow airport is loosing passengers thanks to baa not giving glasgow enough european destinations and giving them all to edinburgh thats why edinburgh's going up in passengers and aberdeen and glasgow are going down. thats why i am sick of edinburgh now

  • @andyman2461 Well i didn't want it because, living in Paisley, i didn't want to put up with the years of travel chaos which this venture would have caused. Not to mention the fact that the cost far out weighs the benefits.

All that is required is a shuttle service from Gilmour Street Station to the airport.

I got the impression that GARL was nothing more than a means by which Scottish Labour and SPT could award their friends in the business, contracts, at the tax payers expense.

  • @MrNobody808 im sorry i thought u didn't want it cause u lived in edinburgh or something

  • @andyman2461 i was stupid that night

  • @andyman2461 Yeah, fuck Edinburgh. What a faggy excuse of an (unpopulated) city.

  • @Grant1872 I'm sorry?! Are you slagin ma city?! Nah, I'm just kidding, the tram idea is a load of piss, they should give you lot a chance!

  • No. Where do you park your car? The airport link would have been fast and no traffic.

  • I take it that you don't live in Paisley and wouldn't have had to put up with the hassle of the thing being built and all the disruption that would have caused?

To answer your question, you can park in the large car park that is about a 20 second walk from the main building.

It really is just as easy to get the train to Paisley and then a bus or taxi to the airport.

  • by the looks of it , its as if they dont give a rats arse about paisley, just building an ugly overhead rail cutting right through their town! Joy.

  • They can use an alernativ route.BAD IDEA FOR THE TOWN OF PAISLEY.The Airport is nearer Paisley than it is Glasgow!! International Airport is over 7 miles away from Glasgow!!it`s Disruption to the town of Paisley..Paisley is getting a raw deal!It cuts through peoples privacy having that so near your front windows and the noise from it every 10 minutes. There is plenty of routes that they can use to get this track runningThey can use the old rail route that passes at reid Kerr College.

  • Well - let's face it, Paisley is EFFECTIVELY part of Glasgow anyway. Maybe not in jurasdiction or name - but it's part of Greater Glasgow.

  • Yep, and Glasgow is just a suburb of London.

  • Don't be ridiculous! I don't understand why you said such a silly thing!

  • wtf is wrong with u

  • Whats wrong with me?

  • @MrNobody808 yup u hate glasgow don't u

  • @andyman2461 nope he lives in glasgow

  • Comment removed

  • @andyman2461 nah u don't

  • so whens this meant to happen mmm??? never maybe lol

  • Its going ahead.

  • Yes indeed. They have started fencing off and cutting up the football pitches at St James Park to create an access road for construction. I go running over there every day and it is well underway. They have also changed platform numbers at Central Station, I would assume with this project in mind.

  • Heh heh, I bet the footballers are pissed!

  • No idea what they are up to. Two thirds of the park is currently fenced-off. But since the tenders for the viaduct only (supposedly) went out in December 2008, I can't see anything radical happening soon. Some of the local residents are pissed, that's for sure.

  • First scotrail is a company if they want to make money they will build over dead people, i dont think i could ever go on the trip knowing its built over dead bodies

  • Any bit of track done all over Britain could be over dead bodies, how are you meant to know when it goes over bodies? Are you not gunna travel?

  • well with a name like class 313 i can see you like trains , i do aswell and i would travel with scotrail anyday, The point i was making was scotrail wont care if its over dead people, i disagree that paisley will geting nothing out of it, its just a rail track theres loads near houses all over the uk.

  • You'd be surprised where people are buried. In Edinburgh theres hundreds of corpses in Princes Street and in York theres a Jewish cemetry under a Sainsburys carpark. To be honest we're just meat and the dead dont feel anything, I wouldnt care. But thats not of any relavence.

  • Great! Except what Does the town of Paisley get out of it? Nothing! Only folks houses are nearby and the price will suffer on them and is showing that in the ecent sales..They are going for less now...It is unsightly and no one has the right to build over the dead! It will bring the plague back out of the soil!!! :-( Over 1000 Paisley people are buried under that supposed new track :-( NO RESPECT FOR THE DEAD

  • When people say 'respect the dead,' what's it for? I mean, they're DEAD!!! They don't care if there's a railway put on top of them. They are biologically inactive!

  • Paisley will gain an extra 4 trains per hour to Glasgow Central- you will have TWELVE tph!!!!

Your existing services will also become faster and more reliable due to the new track between Shields Junction and the station.
