  • i think it's an ode to lou barlow..

  • Im 32 and this was the meaning of great music when I was young, understandment, knowledge and pain all come with all of it.

  • Probably one of my favorite tunes of all time. Used to bunk off school and listen to it with my mates on an old Walkman with speakers, brings bake some great memory's, still chillin though\!

  • "Follow through" on the first chorus

  • I remember listening to this song over and over and over again when I was a teen...

  • what a freaking haunting song...LOVE IT!

  • I love this song. and i must say. a small resemblance to herbert the pervert. :3

  • almost as if they picked up exactly where Neil Young left off after "American Stars and Bars."

  • You got the lyrics wrong. It is not masked, it is 'messed'.

  • This is beautiful. So beautiful <3 When I die I want this to play in my funeral.

  • OP, you got some of the lyrics wrong. unfortunately, i'm too drunk right now to post the corrections.

    regardless, this song is beautiful.

  • nice song. i hear the influence of neil young

  • They are not to bad for a deaf band!

  • Id forgotten about this tune...lovely stuff..the intro screams ''sample n loop me!!!"

  • i listened to this song loads when my friend died of cancer in 1993, haven't heard it for years ..brings it back x

  • I used to listen to this song a lot at age of 16 and felt so much, now that I have doubled that age, at 32, I understand so much more, and I know that is, in part, thanks to this and other music I listened to. Enlightening, sad and beautiful. Greetings from a small godforsaken town in Mexico.

  • will to love - neil young?

  • perfection. its so good to see a lot of the comment reflect my opinions and feelings about this song. my favorite lyrics in the song are the last line but i love the song as a whole and this album is easily in my all time top 10 and probably top 5.

  • @11xzxzxz This is deleted so grobbeldonk will stop wetting himself.

  • @11xzxzxz - Speak English.

  • @grobbledonk What and leave your dumb-ass dumbfounded? Just take what little intelligence you have and fold it five ways and push it where the moon don't shine.

If you have a real question to ask and not a put-down, just ask me to explain.

  • Cont. The end of Expecting to Fly

I tried so hard to stand / As I stumbled and fell to the ground.

So hard to laugh as I fumbled/ And reached for the love I found,

    Knowin' it was gone.

If I never lived without you/ Now you know I'd die.

If I never said I loved you/ Now you know I'd tried

Babe, now you know I'd tried.

Babe, now you know I'd try.

    Babe.

  • Another great orchestrated rock song is Buffalo Springfield's " expecting to fly" by Neil Young. Young and Marcis have similar voices.

There you stood on the edge of your feather / Expecting to fly.

While I laughed, I wondered whether/ I could wave goodbye

Knowin' that you'd gone. By the summer it was healing / We had said goodbye.

All the years we'd spent with feeling/ Ended with a cry,

    Babe, ended with a cry,

    Babe, ended with a cry.

  • i close my eyes and listen to this song, and by the time i open them, the tears pave its exellence, and i realize everythings going to be ok, just hold on.

  • @gotmilk1323 Beautiful words, Milk. As good as Dinosaur Jr "Feel the pain" record - Then I feel the pain of everyone - then I feel numb .

  • @11xzxzxz I couldnt agree more, and lately ive been waking up to the cd each morning, and i dont know how to explain it, but I feel this light essance of purity through my mornings, like its somewhat worth it. Im so glad other people feel the feelings brought by this too.

  • @gotmilk1323 Wow you are a special person. Yeah nice feeling to have that about others for you and now I have that about you.

  • masterpiece...

  • *Squid195 Uma got to him

  • This song is in my top ten favorites of all time

  • what the hell is wrong with Mascis on this one?

  • @squid195 Uma got to him

  • This song hits my soul. I know the majority of people won't get it, but the few that have searched, found, and then lost just might "feel" this in their soul.

  • This is from that fantastic CD where you been?

A change of pace but right on track ..... what a record... haunting I got to try some too . Hard to think of any better songs ... rolling stones now suck.

  • I could cry every time I hear this song. 5% of this planet might get this. I do. It's such a piece of beauty.

  • @doricarch Yeah... Was listening to it this morning and it made me cry... Just that opening riff too...

  • @doricarch I get it and think it is a gorgeous .. only not 5% but a mere.005% get it.. Magnificent orchestration (do you know Buffalo Springfield's "expecting to fly" written by Neil Young .. listen to the studio version on Buffalo Springfield Again). Both songs touch the heart.

And I know it's not the same, there's no blame - Still I bother you

And you say it's not your deal, it's mine to feel - Follow along with you In context of the song these words knock you out.

  • @doricarch im definitely in that 5%

  • @doricarch

I nearly killed myself when this song came on my when my ipod was on shuffle. i had split up with my girlfriend of 3 years. such a painful song for me to listen to. so beautiful though especially towards the end where the piano kicks in

  • 15+ years and this song still makes me feel like someone just died. Classic. Love it. Thanks for uploading.

  • One of my favourite songs ever. Love anyone that loves this... There aint many on this earth..

  • Remarkable piece of music. Mascis is a true rocker.

  • @andrejutube the last of the true rockers...since the rise of nickelback, I know now that rock is dying/dead...
