  • I have the original Cheers version of this on a 45. I grew up with it. It was my father and aunts 45.

  • At the time this was released, Vaughn was cutting back on recording, and became better known as the spokesman for RCA Victor {radios, TV sets, records and players, factory service, etc.} in their TV and radio commercials, right into the mid-'60s.

  • Heard a semi operatic version many years ago sung by a lady. Any ideas who?

  • i cannot find this version anywhere, its much better

  • Edith Piaf sold more records with the French version, "L'homme a la moto". Now, hers is virtually the only remembered version.

  • brings back old memories i too was susprisedwhen I heard that Vaughan Mionroe was the singer

  • I heard this Walgreens yesterday. I knew the voice, but I couldn't place the name. I'm glad I found it on YouTube. Thanks for uploading. :)

  • What n abslute delight of a sng, at least the lyrics are clear, and there ain't no nedle hiss on thi sher track thank heaven! WHat was on the flip side? Any polite suggestions wuld be welcome, and WITHOUT SWEARING

  • Great record, most of Vaughn Monroe's were. This was 1955 radio, there were some good records then. Each generation likes its own records of that era.

  • I have a 45 of this song done by Vaughn Monroe, not The Cheers (actually have several of his 45s). I much prefer his recording because of that wonderfully deep voice.

  • what a cool song!

  • this tune rocks, i remember an old lp that had this on it, it was a compilation with a hot rod car on the cover ? any way its awesome !

  • So, this song belongs to The Cheers, right?

  • Hi, I love this tune. I have it on a 1955 "His Masters Voice" UK 45RPM Pink label. Its quite rare as 45's were not common place over here till about 1959

  • If I ever go through with my plan to cruise up the California coast, I'll have to make sure to include this in my playlist.

I did hear a version of this by a group of guys, and it was played on Dr Demento.

  • Chad Mitchell Trio.

  • I have all the Chad Mitchell album and this song is not on any of them.

  • I grew up with this record in the late '60s- I found a 45 copy of this in front of an apartment complex, hiding amongst tall grass. The record was still in great shape. It was a long time before I realized "The Cheers" recorded it first (and had the hit recording); yet, Vaughn's version is unique in itself. Keep in mind, though, that at the time, Monroe was easing himself out of his musical career and into a comfortable position as spokesman for RCA Victor TV's, radios, appliances, etc.

  • Thank you. It was there when I needed it...my dad had a Harley and wore a black leather jacket...not eagle, but he did have the harley cap... I still have the 45 record on my turntable.

  • @riversjse robert mitchem had a cut of this

  • Than you!!!

  • great song!!! great sound!! coming out of that record player WOW!!! they don't make them like they use to that's a shame that the only thing they make now is crapp that doesn't last..

  • I seem to remember that the original version was recorded by Carl Perkins.

  • it was the Cheers, I don't think Carl Perkins ever recorded this song.

  • Hello this is a great song I especially like this version. I was wondering do you have vaughn monroe doiing sound off . I would love to hear that again it has been a long time . this is a great turntable and my grandfather was one of the guys who worked to desgn it and they are like tanks keep bringing us these great oldies but goodies thanks

  • Who did the original version of this? I am surprised to hear Vaughn Monroe performing it--he was more of a mainstream entertainer at the time, and I always thought of this as a rock 'n' roll song. I first heard it as a kid on a 78 from "Tops," a label that specialized in sound-alike covers of current hits.

  • There was another group (Cheers) who recorded the song on Capitol. To see the YouTube enter Capitol no.CP-446 in the search box. The record would have been considered a 'novelty song' at the time.

  • the first version was in french by Edith Piaf called L'Homme à la Moto

  • @sdicaseysdi

The song L'homme à la moto was written by Jean Dréjac.... It was adapted from Black Denim Trousers and Motorcycle Boots (Jerry Leiber, Mike Stoller).

  • N idea, jin the club! Great melody though, and at least ther ain't no needle hiss, cnsidering the age f the track, 55 yrs ag it was done!

  • nice glaser steers turntable! does auto operation work?

  • Yes, the speedminder function works. I don't have a base for it, you can see the 45rpm adapter in the background.

  • i read online that ge bought out glaser steers in the 60's.

  • So if they found his clothes, but not his cycle or him, then he's a naked ghost rider of sorts, I would imagine.

  • Great song. Thank you for posting.
