Another classic. I wonder if my dad had gotten this packaged with the Atari console? I don't remember when he actually bought the Atari. One strange thing though. I really don't remember the planes in this game. Maybe I was too young to figure out the different modes. Although I do remember the being invisible mode, lol. Damn this was truly groundbreaking for my childhood.
Geez guy, they're not 'missiles', they're bullets. And its not 'rapid firing missiles' its a machine gun! Anyway, I played this game so much that I found out that if you make the tanks buttf*ck and then turn, the tanks go crazy, spinning in circles until they reach the edge of the screen. Early software 'bug'!
@HailAnts - Totally remember that software bug!!! My personal favorite one was when you would hit the fire button with the tank in the corner of the maze - holding the button while turning sent you into a "hyperspace" move that bounced you to the other side of the maze. Good for ambushing your opponents or getting away from an attack.
If I had a dime for every hour I spent playing this game back in the early 80's I'd be a millionaire. My favorite board was the one where the shots bounced off the walls and obstacles were still present. Damn was this game fun. Combat will always hold a soft spot in my heart.
I remember playing these games for so long that my thumbs would actually hurt and I'd have an unbelievable headache! My Marvelous parents bought me one of these in the 80's! God Bless them, and thank you for posting!!! :-)
A friend of mine got a 2600 way back when (around 1979). We had a blast playing Combat! About a year later I bought one of my own. Again, a roommate and I wasted lots of fun hours on this console. I sold it a few years later. Wish I never had.
But I saw one on eBay a couple years ago, bid on it and won. 100+ carts; works great! It's great having such an important piece of video game history.
umm he shows the games and reviews any type and actully reviews them ...AVGN reviews shitty games and swears 15-40 times a episode and AVGN is more hummor than review. Irate gamer is no match for AVGN
The tank section was essentially remade as a Wii Play game. Nintendo must've liked it enough to rip it off, or just decided to pad out the "game" with abandonware. Either way, it has a current-gen itiration.
I enjoyed this one when I was barely out of diapers. Loved the "War Child" bomb sound byte you dropped on me at the very end of the review! Highly appropriate!
y does it say ur getting fatter at the beginning? lol. i love ur vidz

If you had an Atari 2600 and Combat in 1977, you and your friends could have fun for hours.

I am pretty sure this was the first game I ever played after my elder brother bought the Atari in 79 (could've been 80).
Boy did we spend hours upon hours playing with it :)
boogieedownberlin 2 years ago
I consider this the first atari game, as its product number is CX-2601, and it was the pack-in game for all those years.
Just yesterday I got an original cart for this. Crazy to think I am playing a 30 year old game.
Really.. the game was 6 years old when I was born. O_O
