classical singers learn to hold a note and breath correctly as they sing.  Alicia might sound llike she is struggling to sing this song but she has it all under control. The notes are quite difficult to sing while you are playing a piano sitting down and singing at the same time, and then standing up to sing and walk around on stage. Also she is a great ambassador for impoverished children whose families have been devastated by Aids in Africa. She's an icon to me and such a gracious woman.

being a good singer is trying to find the right balance between being technical and singing from the heart with a little grit. for a popsinger, alicia got the heart and grit part down perfectly. she does go offkey in performances at times, but the most important is that you feel it. and the audience was obviously feeling it. :)

She is a trained classical singer and reaching the notes that she is singing is not only difficult but she has to position her head and throat so that the correct sound comes out. As you said, it is a difficult song to sing - and that is basically because of the notes that she is trying to reach and the pitch that she is singing in. If you were a base singer trying to sing something lower, then you would probably need to hold your head and vocal chords in a particular position.
