  • David Lynch would love this video! (So did I)

  • That's one of the best looking cars ever made ..and if you didn't know any better, you'd think that was *not* how those headlight doors opened....

  • wooow elegant

  • ... great touch with the crickets there at the end... very Stephen King. LoLoL.

Just waiting for it to roar into life and start devouring lesser vehicles!! =)

  • I have a 65 riviera and want to switch to a actuator what size actuator did you use? what did you have to do to install it? my email is scott.crane67@yahoo.com

  • Great shot of the mechanism in action!

  • Reminds me of my large penis hole opening and closing. LOL

  • I'd take this piece of engineering any day over the mundane, modern day "advancements".

  • 0:22 looks like a sci-fi, anime ray-gun activating or something.

  • That is sooo gangsta!

  • FUCKN PIMP!

  • Style, class and elegance that cars will never have again. We are in the plastic trow away age

  • Scary movie !

  • can i put my babys momma titty nipple in that thing? please

  • reminds me of a vag

  • Can i have your car? ;-)

  • Try and find this elegance in new cars! These were works of art!

  • Unbelieveable the options that these beauties had! A friend of mine has one, and it has auto headlight dimming, original washer/wiper bottle, etc. I think these things were pretty advanced for the year. Beautiful cars!

  • On the original 65 Riv's, the parking lights did not light up with the headlights.

  • now that's awesome

  • These were/are awesome. I remember the first time a saw a 65 Riviera was in the movie Roadhouse. I've been wanting one since then. Now that I'm a nit older I'm gonna take on one as a project.

  • @y291 There was also one in the movie The Squeeze.

  • My Mouth Dropped OPEN When I first Saw The Headlights...

  • Nice I must admit!

  • I can still remember seeing a brand new Riv do this for the first time. I was 8. I think I passed out.

  • cool headlights, bro

  • that was so bad ass.

  • @form109 YES IM WITH YOU THAT IS BAD ASS!!

  • that is sooooo cool

  • Wow!!

  • ゴージャスだな

  • Those are REALLY cool. But (Now here come the practical fuddy duddy in me) I can't help but to wonder how difficult it will be to clean out the nacelles. Wouldn't those get packed full of bugs and dirt? I imagine having to clean it out with a toothbrush and q-tips.

  • I absolutly adore American muscle cars, they are just so unbelievably beautiful i Just cant understand how in europe and japan they can get around 300bhp out of any old 2litre engine, yet Americans use mighty 5/6/7litre engines and can barely surpass that :O!

  • @SlankTV

You're comparing two different eras and technologies. These old 5-6-7 litre cars are 40 years old. Japanese cars of that same era got about 50hp from their 4 cylinder engines.

In the 70's the engines of AMerican cars were so weighed down by emission controls which supped horsepower which mean't your 5 litre V8's got about 170hp

Modern American muscle 6L V8s can reach over 500hp

Alot of 7 litre US cars of the 60's went way past 400hp though.

  • @hawksleyart01 No no no i wasnt comparing eras at all, besides you pretty much just agreed with what i said, modern american cars get 500hp outta those monstrously big engines, look at ferarris or lotus, 4 litre engines and youve got yourself over 700hp, the 1.8l toyota celica engine in an elise can get around 250hp! Not fighting with ya i was just making a point, just cant understand why american engineers cant use smaller engines and get more power :O!!

  • @SlankTV

It's ok, I wasn't arguing eithing. I was just explaining to you. I thought you were comparing modern to old muscle cars as the video is about an old car.

700hp from a lotus or 4 litre Ferrari? Which ferrai or Lotus is that? Even the 6.0 liter V12 Enzo doesn't reach 700hp.

  • @SlankTV

But don't forget, those are special circumstance cars. Most European 5-6 litre V8 or even V10 or V12 cars max out at 650hp, about the same as a Vette.

    Look at the 2008 AMG SL . It has a huge 6 litre V12 Bi-turbo engine, and has less HP than a 2008 6.0 V8 S/C corvette..

The power is used differently. The tuning and engine used for a 4 litre Ferrari, wouldn't be able to take the everyday hammering that a 6 litre American V8 could. It's too finely tuned. It's about making whats needed.

  • @SlankTV

Secondly , you've got to loom at cost and market base. A ferrari style tuned engine would cost alot of money to produce ( something which US car companies lack).

To recoup that money they've spent on techs and research, they'd have to charge more. I don't think US customers wants to pay ferrari or Lotus prices for a saloon car.

And lastly,Muscle heritage isn't about fine Euro tuning. It's about low reving heavyduty, raw untouched power. People don't want fine euro tuning in Musle Cars

  • @hawksleyart01 Ahh youve got a fair point with the money thing, and your right about the low end revving if its what you prefer! I guess their cheaper too I just dont see many mental American cars and its a pity :(! Lotus elise will only set you back €35,000 tops though their cheap! Hey buddy if you wanna hear a sexy engine in a low enough powered car check out Ford Mondeo ST220!! 3.0 v6 Duratec engine, God you will jizz :D!!

  • @SlankTV

I drove one of the older 2004-ish ST V6 mondeos.( My job was driving cars) I quite like them. Just as good as an Audi, but way cheaper.

  • @hawksleyart01 Oh really?? I didnt know yiz had them in America!! Id give me left ball for one..actually id rather pay the €10,000 for one that this lad is selling up the way from me haha.

  • @SlankTV

I don't know if they do, I live in England LOL!! I just know about American cars, and have friends in the US....Don't worry, everyone makes that mistake about me.

  • @hawksleyart01 What?! Oh god your only over the water from me haha! Yeah sorry bout that, well ya know your stuff anyway, I only argue vaguely so dont take me as a know it all haha!

  • @SlankTV

No probs. I don't think you're a know it all. You asked a reasonable question. I gave you a( long winded) answer.Makes a change to talk to someone that can understand and accept difference in engineering and reasons rather than thinking they know everything when they don't, like what alot of euro car fans do. They just put the shutters down and shout about how everything that isn't european sucks without any understanding or knowledge of US cars..

  • @SlankTV

Yes, cost on cars does have a major play in ti.

But also so does the US government. From what I've heard, they go mental over emissions there. I big bore low reving V8 with or with a S/C produces better MPG than a smaller high revving Ferrari engine.

Look at the M5 V10. It less hp, and 1 litre less than the CTS-V, Yet produces less MPG because it's a higher reving engine. The emission standards on saloon cars are tight. Even the M5 V10 had to have restrictions put on it in the US.

  • KILLER!!!!

  • It would suck if the hydraulics broke down at night wouldn't it. LOL

  • @TheLizardKing1967 They were spring loaded in the open position in case of vacuum failuer they would stay open.

  • I have a 65 Riv and last year I paid almost $400 on ebay to get my motor rebuilt, bought new relay and it worked great but the motor shorted out and I am frustrated to say the least. I saw your cool set up and wandered where I can get the same? Please email any information to wesley.robinson23@yahoo.com

    Thanks

  • beautyful car!

  • chingon!!!

  • Fabulous car,I want one.

  • The 1964/ 65 Riviera launched the era of modern styling in automotive design with the sharp-edge roofline, long hood and short rear deck. Probably the most beautiful American car ever built.

  • @DONDIVA1969 - but the '67 Oldsmobile Toronado would have to come close - just ask Jay Leno.

  • yes the kings and i want one!!

  • i like it

  • GM had such excellent engineering back then, what happened??

  • The '65 was the best looking of the first generation Rivieras because of those hidden headlights! Awesome!

  • Awesome..

  • If that electric light motor blows out at night, you will be up shit creek. LOL

  • Hey I have a 65 Riviera too. My clamshells still open and close properly with the stock vacuum motor, but wouldn't mind knowing where you got this as a backup.

  • There is'nt a law about hidden headlamps-they are just expensive to install on cars today and can freeze-up in cold weather. There is usually a by-pass switch to keep them open in the winter so they don't freeze shut damaging the operating motor.

  • The '65 Riv

    Pure class.

  • The '65 Riv

They just don't do things like that anymore. It might be because they've outlawed pop-up/out headlights, but still

  • Always one of my favorite cars but I didn't realize that the headlights opened in two parts...nice.

  • thats badass, reminds me of the early lincolns

  • -Woah,how cool is that?

  • Genial !!! yo tengo uno del 69!!!

  • PURE SEX

  • WOW!!! I like it. I like it!!!

  • very cool

  • Genius!

I hope the bastard that stole her rots in hell

    Make more movies!

  • could u send info on the clamshell actuator

  • Its alive!!!! Muhahahaha!

    no seriously i love it

  • I own a 65 riv ,I need the system for the clamshell ,could the owner please give me the information on the actuator ,thanks

  • Love it!

  • Nice !

  • A masterpiece of first class design and engineering, the 1965 Riviera is a perfect example of why General Motors was KING.

  • *tears well up* Amen......

  • WAS... now bearly surviving... everything before 75 was grate like this tho...

  • cool nice little vid

  • hi ,I have a 65 riviera .would the owner of this amazing car be so kind to tell me what are the pieces I need to place this system on my car ,my 65 did not had the clamshells .I bought them on e bay but the car doesnt has the motor for the clamshells

    thanks

  • That is the sweetest headlight set up on the sweetest car I have ever seen, would love to know the sceifications on those actuators for my '65 Rivi, can ya help?

  • good job

  • great video of a fantastic car, i like the details of the mechanism of the headlight

  • fuck! is that cool....i like the old clamshell tailgates too....idk why car companys dont make cars like they used to. now there all plastic and computerized and they all look the same

  • very interesting. never seen before.

  • Very nice!

  • That's when cars had style! You'll never see those design touches again and all in steel!

  • @lasuvidaboy especially headlight covers. dont see them any more

  • sweet!!!!!!!1

  • Cool. Why can't automakers put in hidden lamps again...they are so cleanlooking.

  • This is awesome!

  • clever you!

  • Nice car, thanks for posting. 65 Rivs have always been one of my favorite cars.

  • now that's a muscle car!

  • That was HOT! How about showing the power windows going up and down?

  • Love those headlights! I like the 68 drop down too.

  • Sooooooooo Cool. Nothing like a 65 Riv. with clamshell headlights !!

  • Im 16 and I have one of thoes cars.

  • One of the coolest cars ever made, just for that, interior was good too.

  • THAT WAS VERY DAMN COOL!

  • "Again! Again!" Cooool

  • Great job, dude. I also love the way the parking lights come on in the vid w/the headlights. Am thinking about wiring them that way.

  • That was awesome. Great work. Oh, the headlights are nice too.

  • The craft! The fluidity! The vintage mechanical STYLEE! It makes my pants wet.
