He didnt draw attention like Chris Farley or Mike Meyers with over the top comic acting. But his ability to be a supporting actor shows his quality. Not enough said about the man.Not enough credit given.
This is what happen when you take Zoloft. Byrnn...If you just hanged on a little...maybe, just maybe...If would have worked out. Phil just bought a boat the day before you killed him. Me typing doesn't bring either of you back. Phil, Brynn...Just live happily in heaven. Rest In Peace.
I still love and miss Phil. I believe he was one of the most talented and hilarious people ever! I fell in love with Phil on the original Pee Wees playhouse in the mid to late 80's it was part of those old HBO comedy shows and I've been cracking up ever since. People say that the original cast of SNL was so great and Eddie Murphy was just a blazing diamond on there in the early 80's. But, I think the cast with Phil, Farley, and Myers is the greatest ever. Thank you Lord for creating Phil!
What's all this silly stuff about wether Phil would hate this song. True fans know that Phil didn't have it in his heart to hate ANYTHING. He is happy to be remembered in any way you wish.
Phil Hartman fans, the Campaign to get Phil Hartman on the Canadian and Hollywood Walks of Fame is on and it's happening on Facebook. @KarloR27 I wouldn't go so far as to say the latest simpsons episodes are crap... but they did lose a lot when Phil passed away. Hell, Hollywood lost a lot... I'm just glad he was Jiji in Kiki's Delivery Service, he himself it was one of his favourite roles.

As as a hardcore SNL and Simpsons fan, I still remember when this happened... even though I was only 13.... still sad whenever I see Troy McClure or Lionel Hutz
I just realized he would only be 60.... i feel so bad for this guy. As i said before, he did not deserve to die so young. I also feel bad for his kids because they don't have parents now.
He was such a sweetie, and sooo funny. He is missed. Loved him in Houseguest, SNL, Jingle All the Way, and well everything. Thanks for the great post. Andre Rieu the orchestra leader reminds me so much of him in looks.
Brynn remains forgotten, thankfully, one of many of that generation who actually believed Gloria Steinem. Sorry, sisters, but you can't have it all. No one does. No one will. RIP Phil.

ITA, very different show without him, he was the glue on that show too, not just on SNL, they kinda lost the balance that he provided on the show. You try to FIND him in Season 5, but you can't and you know why you can't either, and that's what makes it even more sad.
NewsRadio could've lasted another 5 years with him for sure.
Same with the Simpsons, it really hasn't been the same without him the past 10 years, I REALLY miss Troy McClure and Lionel Hutz, they were HILARIOUS!
Thank you for this tribute, AmoLaZucca. Regardless of what some people said, I think Phil would appreciate this tribute for the effort and the fact that people still remember him.
Phil was a great person, great comedian, great actor...it's so sad that he had to go so early, and in the way he did. Thank God he never saw it coming.
Brynn is a murderer, she should've gotten punished instead of getting the easy way out.
It's almost the 10 year anniversary of his death...Rest in Peace, Phil.
Thanks so much, AquadiustheHedgehog. :) That means so much to me.
It's hard to believe it's been nearly 10 years, isn't it? He had so much life left to live. I have this habit of watching movies and thinking "Phil would have been *perfect* for this role." :(
It is VERY hard to believe. He was such a great person, it's so sad to realize that so much talent was wasted.
I have thought about that briefly as well, although I spend most of my time rewatching NewsRadio over and over. Every time I see the end of the fourth season, I think about how this was his last episode. And when watching "Bill Moves On"...I'm ready to start bursting into tears. Especially the one line, "I'll see you all when you get to wherever it is that I am now."
I just keep watching that part when Dave says that and you can tell that Dave was trying so hard not to cry because his voice was beginning to break up. Out of all seven actors, Dave, Maura, Andy, and Khandi looked the most heartbroken, next to them was Vicki, then Joe and Stephen. I will always miss Phil and I will always tear up when Dave reads that last line.
It's so very heartbreaking to watch...I just wish that that episode was 1 hour long though, the first half would have been about the most memorable Bill moments and/or bloopers, and then the second half would be the letter-reading, etc. Thank God for YouTube though, fans can make their own favorite moments video, and I've seen many! Miss you always Phil...:( :( :( *hugs*
I agree...I would've liked it if they had done more about Phil. I'm surprised they didn't even have a "in memory of" message at the end of the episode. But I really like the way they ended that episode, with that focus on his chair...it put me close to tears. It just accentuates his absence.
Are you sure they didn't? I thought they did I swear I saw that at the end back in 1998. He also guest starred on 3rd Rock From The Sun before he died, and I remember when I watched the premiere, I'm sure it said In Memory of, at the end. I know, the chair scene at the end made me tear up, but it didn't make me cry, it does now though. When everyone takes something from his desk, I think Beth says "Thank you PHIL", instead of Bill, I loved when Joe kissed his desk, and when Jimmy took his desk.
Wow, that's weird, I swear I saw one that night it aired. It'd be weird not to do one.
BUT, on the season 5 bloopers, right at the end, it shows Phil naked behind a desk smoking a cigar and wearing a baseball cap and it says: WE STILL MISS YOU, so I guess that should make up for the "in memory of". It was cute to see him like that. :)
Yeah, I can't believe that jerk gave Brynn cocaine after such a long time of being sober...congrats to Jon Lovitz for beating the crap out of him.
I never especially cared for Andy Dick, but I've hated him since the murder for that. And then his reaction, putting the "Phil Hartman hex" on Jon Lovitz...
@ElectricMayhem87 This should not have happened. What a waste. He brought so much to SNL. I remember the day his murder was announced. It was a sad day. R.I.P. Phil.
Maybe so - but the song is about remembrance, and expressing how someone touched lives. It's not one of my favorite songs either - but what it says is fitting so it's what I used. Even if he would "hate" the song, I think he'd appreciate the effort - and the heart that went into this.
lakevubud, you're a moron. I'm sure you're used to listening to stupid sensless, dumb, idiotic music that have about as much meaning, depth, and artistic value as a anal wart.I guess that would be true to your personality.
Awesome job, poor guy. Man I miss him, not to mention Troy McClure and Lionel Hutz. He could turn any brutal SNL sketch into pure gold.
On a side note, this theme song has been used for so many of these death/retirement/etc montages that it could probably work well with spoofs of them(SNL did it one time), it's that overused(not to rag on this or anything, as its very well done and I know the song fits perfectly, hence why its always used).
Phil Hartmann was a brilliant comedian that had alot of talent was taken too soon. His voices as Lionel Hutz and Troy McClure on Simpsons are timeless pieces of brilliance. RIP Phil. You are missed
RIP phil<3 HIs death makes me so mad because it was so unnecessary,he didn't HAVE to die i just think if his wife wanted to kill herself then she should have done it and left him alone.
he was my favorite snl cast member, although i actually prefer the orginal show from the early 70's becoz the show was better then, i feel. phil was a talented man. he is certainly missed by me.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
that just proves that all women are, by nature, mentally unstable and out of controll. Some just hide it better then others. i would never turn my back on any women who has a knife in her hand.
I might just remember him as Troy McClure - but I'll always remember him from Small Soldiers and all the other non-simpsons stuff, which always seems funnier because it isn't on all of the time...
LOL RussoSlyCat! I LOVED that sketch when Phil was playing Frankenstein and he kept saying: "Fire Bad" LOL! The man was trying so damn hard to keep a staight face but he couldn't, and HE was called THE GLUE! LMFAO! Best SNL sketch of the 80s and of ALL-TIME!!! His facial expressions were the best and HE was THE BEST! He was a great man, and Heaven is reserved for people like him, so I hope he's making God, Chris Farley, John Ritter, John Candy, John Belushi, Bob Hope, and Jack Benny all laugh.
Bill (aka Phil):This reminds me of when my friends and i made an oath that wed be friends forever then in 7th grade they pulled down my pants in front of the whole school of course! ahhh good times!
nice tribute AmoLa.they called Phil "the glue" that held it all together..He was Sinatra, Phil Donahue, Reagan, Caveman, Bill Clinton at Micky D's....but most of all he was a great man..a great husband..a tragic loss to all who loved wit and humor.
Sadly, they are scarce. There are only a couple on YouTube. Search "unfrozen caveman lawyer". One video will come up, but that's just the intro to the episode. On the right side of the video, you'll see a list and "Unfrozen Part 2" will be there - that's one full episode. Hope that helps.
what? This guy was gold....seriously.....just an amazing comedian and actor....the worst was howard sterns remarks after he died.....he called chevy chase and turn this tragic instance into a joke.... i like stern but...if you are realistic and care enough....then you know...wtf?
This was a beautiful tribute. I still miss this guy. Thank you for a wonderful and fitting tribute. Rest in peace buddy, we here on earth still miss and remember you.
This is a lovely tribute video. I always thought Phil Hartman was the best thing on SNL! Can anyone tell me the name and artist for the song used for the background of this tribute video? It's beautiful.
Phil Hartman was shot in his sleep by his wife Brynn on May 28, 1998. Afterwards, she turned the gun on herself and committed suicide. It was one of the greatest entertainment tragedies of all time.

omg this is weird, this guy always annoyed me, but I JUST found out he died!! Now it's kinda like I like him more or something, it's sad... i mean what happened
I remember the day after they announced he was killed, and by his wife no less, my wife was out on a long visit to her mother's where there wasn't any television available. When she came home, I had to be the one to tell her about it. It broke both of us up that afternoon.
For a tribute this is pretty depressing. Shit song.

Hoochie2122 3 years ago
It's possible they only had it on TV when it aired, but I have each of the Season Boxed Sets and there's no "in memory of" message anywhere.
AquadiustheHedgehog 3 years ago

What kind of sick joke is that?

So sweet, thanks you.

R.I.P., Mr. Hartman. I don't see how he would have hated a loving tribute like this. It's beautiful.

@ElectricMayhem87 This should not have happened. What a waste. He brought so much to SNL. I remember the day his murder was announced. It was a sad day. R.I.P. Phil.

R.I.P. Phil Hartman, husband of the lady who killed him. Brynn was his murderer, who killed herself on the same day.

Phil was brilliant but he'd HATE this vagina music.
lakevubud 3 years ago
Maybe so - but the song is about remembrance, and expressing how someone touched lives. It's not one of my favorite songs either - but what it says is fitting so it's what I used. Even if he would "hate" the song, I think he'd appreciate the effort - and the heart that went into this.
AmoLaZucca 3 years ago
lakevubud, you're a moron.

He was a great man, and Heaven is reserved for people like him, so I hope he's making God, Chris Farley, John Ritter, John Candy, John Belushi, Bob Hope, and Jack Benny all laugh.

can anyone tell me where to find caveman lawyer scetch?
fatfart1 4 years ago
Sadly, they are scarce. There are only a couple on YouTube. Search "unfrozen caveman lawyer". One video will come up, but that's just the intro to the episode. On the right side of the video, you'll see a list and "Unfrozen Part 2" will be there - that's one full episode. Hope that helps.
