The album cover of Rain Dogs shows a picture taken by photographer Anders Petersen. In 1967 he was photographing a bar called Cafe Lehmitz in Hamburg. It's a beautiful book he made of it.

For years I thought it was Waits himself with some woman. :)

Some people seem to take it too literal. That's what I was talkin' about to someone else. Actually, Waits was a big fan of Charles Bukowski who felt this way about art, especially movies.
