As a matter of fact, banks will lend up to 80% more than what they actually have in receipts because of this tendency that banks count on, that at any given time only a small percentage of the real assets are in circulation. This is why a 'run on the bank' is such a dangerous thing: because it makes them face the fact that they do not HAVE real assets equal to the debt they've loaned!
