Its amazing with how much the harbour has changed over the decades. It appears back then as if the harbour was nearly for all just industrial use, and for workers to have a pint after work ect, but now look at the place, its quite the tourist attraction with packs of crowds sometimes.
Yes, Up until the late 1960s tourists were not encouraged, as it was intended to be a "working quay".
Interesting seeing the coal transporter again - my Grandfather (1896-1977) worked for the Bournemouth Gas Undertaking, and I gather that once while working on the "gantry", he slipped and almost fell, but was saved by hanging on by one foot until he was pulled back up- a very near miss
And the smell of the gasworks! Lovely piece of film on an activity never to be repeated

I can even remember the sound this thing made as it worked - good to see the Quay not looking like the tourist trap it's become since then.
